They should put Nipsey and Jay Rock on the cover next to each other, have Nip all criped out and Jay all blooded out

  • http://www.reupspot.com reupvick

    really??

  • Teddy

Gangs are fagets who cant defend themselves.

Yea Im not much of a gangster rap fan. Jay Rock is nice though. I was thinkin he might make it, if XV or Dom Kennedy didnt make it. At least they finished strong on this one.

  • http://datsdope.blogspot.com/ KoolKidSheed

There could have been many other MC's I thought that would have been better, but the OJ thing killed a lot of people and just made them not even wanting to see who is next. Another thing a lot of the Mc's who were chosen I thought they couldnt spit something new harder shit that would of got peoples attention

  • Tunnawhat??

Thoughts? XXL is wack. Look at last year's list.
They were right about Curren$y - that's about it.
That said, people who do give a shit about this list will quit sleepin on the work Freddie Gibbs & Fashawn putting in. J.Cole is decent too.

  • http://twitter.com/DariSmith Dari Smith

yea, i was done after OJ...but this freestyle was nice.

  • Evan292

Last year's list was much better. They were right about

    Blu
    Asher Roth
    B.o.B
    Wale
    KiD CuDi
Charles Hamilton (he has talent but very stupid)
    Mickey Factz

  • fiasco

    ayee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cookie

    Ayee!!!!!!!!!!! Okayee!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jabari Manwarring

    This year was good
except for oj da juiceman they all ways have at least one fuck up
Big Sean,Fashawn,J.cole are the best on the list
but freedie gibbs had the best bars

  • Igneous

187 Murdered It. XXL got 9/10 Freshman right

  • Faubs

there's a lot of talent on this list... along with some very questionable decisions. like last year, some of these artists will blow, and others won't be able to handle the hype of being labeled a top ten up-and-comer in the game. like most others, i do NOT back OJ's inclusion. i think nipsey and jay rock are aight but there are other more deserving dudes (xv, chip tha rip, even dom kennedy or emilio)

there are others who are still too fresh in the game to be considered but they'll be makin some noise... shawn chrys, tiron & ayomari, jd era... lottaa shit to look forward to

  • yurahater

9/10, oj the only bad pick. emilio should have gotten that spot

  • http://jonniehaywardyoungboy.blogspot.com JonnieHayward

Replace OJ with XV or myself ..

    http://usershare.net/3d4yxc9pmvqi

    ...
    -
    ....
And then the list is complete lol

  • cjae

XV MUST BE PISSED, rather see dom kennedy

  • cjae

    Or Drake? lol

  • def

dude spit sprayin all over himself. somebody should tell him to chill out.

  • doubleO

    vizzy is this year's drizzy.
how the fuck is xxl not gonna include him?
    seriously. wow.

  • bigwig

So for the record, what's the entire list?

  • iTunesEra

Aside from OJ Da Juiceman, the one thing I like about this list is that all of them have a legitimate chance of becoming proven emcees, as well as possible mainstream stakeholders.

You can't say that about 2009
(Cory Gunz has NO appeal outside of NY)
(Really? Ace Hood? Does he still have a career? Wasn't aware he put out two albums, and that's probably for the best)
(Mickey Factz is passing, but the guy lied about being affiliated with Roc Nation. What an herb)

    or 2008
    (Papoose has lost all momentum)
(Yung Dro is nothing without T.I.)
    (Lil Boosie ftmfl)
(I'm a fan of Saigon, but that guy seems to make to many bad choices for his career)
(Crooked I's success is dependent on Slaughterhouse, which you can't say for the other three. On the other hand, I believe Joell Ortiz can make it on his own)

My rankings on their impact-ability (rated by lyrical skills, mainstream appeal, connections, success thus far, and the almighty X-factor):

    1. Big Sean
    2. J. Cole
    3. Donnis
    4. Nipsey Hussle
    5. Freddie Gibbs
    6. OJ Da Juiceman
    7. Fashawn
    8. Jay Rock
    9. Wiz Khalifa
    10. Pill

  • WNTD3

I fucks with the list but the OJ add isn't cutting it. But Jay Rock killed it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/O O.Me

Maybe its me but this list is a Sophmore list. Wiz, Jay Rock, Nipsey, J Cole could of been on last years. Watch next year they will try to put Jay Electronica on it even though he should of been on it this year. Exhibit A, B & C >>> everything else.

Since XXL is always a year late hopefully I'll see XV, Emillo Rojas, Add-2, Shawn Crystopher, Tiron, QuEsT, PAC DIV (i dont understand how they been looked over 2 yrs in a row) and other good emcees. This list isnt bad, I just hopw these artist do more than last years did.

  • StreetDough

I agree with that they should have replaced OJ with XV...

  • AK

    Nipsey Hu$$tle
    J Cole
    Fashawn
    Pill
    Freddie Gibbs
    Donnis
    OJ Da Jewman
    Big Sean
    Wiz Khalifa
    Jay Rock

  • *******

@jonniehayward that shit was hot didnt kno u can rap// ur not better than vizzy but u both damn sure r better than oj

  • ImO

    ^agreed. *surprised*

  • sam sneako

this is so beyond average it's not even funny.

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

Compared to last year’s list, in terms of styles, and where these dudes will be a year from now:

    Pill = B.o.B.
    Wiz Khalifa = Kid Cudi
    Fashawn = Curren$y
    J. Cole = Wale
    Big Sean = Asher Roth
    Freddie Gibbs = Blu
OJ da Juiceman = Ace Hood
    Donnis = Cory Gunz
    Jay Rock = Mickey Factz
and Nipsey Hussle is on his own because Charles Hamilton is a fucking dud

  • Jay x Bomb

XV should Replace OJ WTF!!!! THIS IS SO GAY.

What ever my Boys Wiz Jcole and Nipssey are on there so i cant Complain...Okaaay!!!(Wiz Voice)

  • *******

Oh yea Vizzy is not this year's Drake unless he starts to sing and changes the content of rhymes and starts rappin about females and how successful he is 95% of the time he picks up a microphone

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

@ O.Me: i think by "freshman", they mean these guys don't have an album out in stores yet. some of their mixtapes are better than albums, but you still can't count that as official, just warm ups.

  • doubleO

^didn't say he was exactly the same as drake. i meant he was overlooked and he's the god damn best one.

  • totalrecall

@gM lmao @ calling hamilton a dud. no way. and also @ comparing freddie gibbs to blu or wiz to cudi or pill to b.o.b. no fucking way. overall thhis list cant touch last years.

  • YC

XV for OJ... I can't believe they snubbed him again?! But it may be a good thing cuz we now know vizzy gonna go 5x as hard on Vizzy Zone now!

  • http://www.facebook.com/O O.Me

@gM that makes sense at 1st I was always judging from their year of being on the music scene (blogs, sites and mixtapes) and their impact. But the list makes sense cause all of these artist are mostly signed now if Im not mistaken

  • thedopeness

    no vizzy? no emilio? smh

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

@totalrecall: the day charles hamilton gets a record in stores is the day i chew my own damn head off. his potential is shot with that sonic gimmick and the whole Dilla fiasco last year.

  • Larry H.

    Comparing nipsey to charles hamilton=priceless

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

lol didnt mean to compare the two, i meant that nipsey has no one to compare himself to off of last years list because CH was the last one left and i don't see nipsey's career ending up like his at all

  • 2cokeboyz

GOD DAMN shake and meka better start co-signin JonnieHayward that nigga went in on that Lemonade beat

  • nomicon

this year's list is a lot more hood than last year's.

  • kidadonis

@gM Sorry, but Blu literally had three albums before that XXL list. Below the Heavens, Piece Talks and Johnson & Johnson before 08 ENDED. So, I really don't think we can really pick a steady reason why they pick certain people.

  • Sage

Okayy.... *Wizzy voice* Best of the freshmen freestyles, Jay Rock, best flow, Gibbsy. J. Cole's my nigga tho, the freestyle wasn't bad but wasn't great. but we know his potential already. List Overall: twas ok.. could be better. but theres always room 4 improvement.

  • kidadonis

And I do mean pressed and printed albums, no mixtape.

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

@kidadonis i overlooked that, you're right. all three of those albums are great, too.

  • T-Dub

@gM guess u didn't know Fashawn and Wiz have full albums out.

  • http://maushole.wordpress.com maus

gM, your whole list was flimsy...why even make one, if it's gonna be retarded? I mean, Freddie Gibbs and Blu?

Freddie "Gangster" Gibbs, and Blu "GODlee" Barnes? Their nicknames say it all.

  • Dat Dude Chris

This years list was fucking ass
This should be da real list...

    J Cole
    XV
    Wiz Khalifa
    Jay Rock
    Big Sean
    Jay Electronica
    Dom Kennedy
    Chip Tha Ripper
Waka Flocka (fuck all da haters, he go hard n he gotta buzz)
    Nipsey Hu$$le

  • http://thenewclassicsmusic.blogspot.com/ gM

@maus put them together because theyre both the best lyricists in their groups. arguably, of course.

  • http://twitter.com/DomStyleZ StyleZ.

    Last year was better

  • Jesus

    @gM

Yeah your list was pretty wack, not to sound like a douche bag. But you are on par with Charles Hamilton being a dud, all his internet fans are lost in some fantasy world where they think his career is actually gonna go somewhere, when that dude isn't doin shit after last years fiascos.

  • Faubs

"Compared to last year’s list, in terms of styles, and where these dudes will be a year from now:

i don't know if i agree that pill (out of all those freshmen) will start making b.o.b. noise within the next year, i seriously doubt wiz makes kid cudi noise, and donnis is too good to get shunned by the mainstream like gunz.

  • Jesus

Whats up with people saying Chip tha Ripper should make the list? Dude is like the midwest version of OJ.

This is what I think this years list should be:

    Big Sean
    J. Cole
    Freddie Gibbs
    XV
    Jay Electronica
    Pill
    Nipsey Hussle
Fashawn (although like Blu, the dude already has a classic out)
    Wiz Khalifa
    PAC DIV

  • catch me up on jupiter

the list is right for the most part, OJ has an album out though so Waka Flocka shouldve taken his spot. Would've put XV instead of Gibbs since he's never going to do anything really.

  • http://jonniehaywardyoungboy.blogspot.com JonnieHayward

@Jesus...Jay Electronica doesn't make the list because he is over the age limit...when he graduated from high school J. Cole was in the 3rd grade lol... glad to see I got fans on here too I atleast know I'm better than OJ

  • olliekid

10 years from now the only with a classic album out will be FASHAWN.

Fashawn = the most slept on rapper in the world because he's from a small city.

  • YoDaddyBrother

    this list was very good

Donnis, Pill, Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock, Nipsey Hussle, J.Cole, Wiz Khalifa, OJ Da Juiceman

I can't remember who else made it but yeah those people I just listed got it and their music is definitely bumping. Two more would be Alley Boy & Jay Electronica.

I still don't know why people hate on OJ Da Juiceman. He's a unique rapper with his own style, deal and a myriad of high profile features. He's done it without the blog love too.

And that's another thing about this list, each rapper is unique and has a certain sound they go for.

People crying about XV or Dom Kennedy...outside of this blog I've never seen any of those guys mentioned on any other blog let alone outside in the real world. XV hasn't made any moves whatsoever. He's local in every sense of the word. That may be a tough pill for some of yall to swallow but it is what it is.

Get a deal, get a feature, get a single, tour, rub the right people the right way, do some interviews, get your general area buzzing about you at the very least. AS far as his skills...he's alright...nothing really distinctive about him.

  • http://myspace.com/lreydope L.REY

i agree with this @Dat Dude Chris
    J Cole
    XV
    Wiz Khalifa
    Jay Rock
    Big Sean
    Jay Electronica
    Dom Kennedy
    Chip Tha Ripper
Waka Flocka Flame (wayyyy harder then oj)
    Nipsey Hu$$le

even though jay elect might be too hard for every dude in the list,, cant blame him for being amazing

  • http://sddsc.com eqwe

dude called himself a reptilian... im not with it. We must defeat our overlords not embrace them.

that just sound like some hater shit. today alone i've seen XV on NahRight, HipHopDX, DJBooth and yesterday he was on the page of AOL.com. Not to mention he dropped one of the top rated mixtapes last year just like many other artist on the cover did.

OJ Da Juiceman doesn't even have a buzz in ATLANTA of all places. and evn though Freddie Gibbs, Jay Rock & Pill are good rappers i don't think they'll do anything other than be good rappers. can you imagine any of them making a hit single you hear on the radio. Jay rock talks about gangs too much, Freddie Gibbs missed the era that he would've been successful in and Pill will be just another atlanta rapper. if you can't see that then you might just be one of the idiots who made this list.

  • nibs

All I can say is...where's TiRon?

  • R

@Gm I co-sign ur list, except i'd switch wiz wit nipsey hussle cuz i dont see wiz goin nowhere (so u can put him wit charles) and i see nipsey hussle havin the same popularity as kid cudi (diff style obviously). But next to that, ur list wus spot on when talkin bout where these guys will end up in bout a yr

  • http://jonniehaywardyoungboy.blogspot.com JonnieHayward

OJ aint even hot in the streets he's hot in the clubs and parties, I bet 99% of his fans are females and retarded fellas with brains as small as his

Please watch the video of him getting boo'd off stage in NY.

Trust me bruh...nobody knows XV. Mixtape highly rated by who??? NahRight aint that a sister site of this one? A whopping 4 websites with him on it. He needs to get his status up. I know its tough for you to read this but that's just how it is.

Lol @ OJ Da Juiceman not having a buzz in Atlanta. I don't know what side of Atlanta you're from. If OJ had a show right now at the Tabernacle that bitch would be sold out. Someone has misinformed you.

Jay Rock has already been on the radio. Freddie Gibbs & Pill? Haven't heard them on the radio but I've seen them on TV, in newspapers and in magazines, now all they have to do is make a song for the radio.

lol @ your explanations. Jay Rock raps about gangs too much??? Freddie Gibbs missed his era??? Are you serious bruh?

  • 91&^UP

    Pac Div

  • http://sukkatash.com MarqMoz

Despite spitting all over the place, Jay roc killed. But J Cole & Big Sean should definitely outdo everybody on last year's list with the exception of Cudi.

  • MH

    Where's Tiron and Dom?

  • MH

    And Pac Div?

  • Lazers

    @YoDaddyBrother

LIL WAYNE has been on the radio. Just so happen that Jay Rock rapped on the song. Unless lil' wayne raps on every Jay Rock song. nobody else wants to hear that man. Same with OJ Da Juiceman. He only got play because of the Gucci Mane feature. look at the big picture.

you're being fooled into thinking these artists are big. that's why XV not being on the cover is a slap to the face to his fans because we all want to see him become a star and people undeserving get the love. XV should be bigger right now, but if he isn't its because of stuff like this that holds him back in the industry. he has a fanbase. he even has more followers on twitter than 4 of the freshman on this list. I'm saying Jay Rock, Freddie Gibbs and Pill and even a fw others on the list will never be able to attract the mainstream because they have no ability to crossover. Big Sean, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and maybe Donnis (because of Gone) have that ability and i think XV fits in there. he's even worked with each of those artist. quit believing the hype.

  • locohunt

I agree 100% with "Yadaddybrother". this dude lazers or whatever his name is must be XV's lil brother cus he's speakin out his a** not speakin on facts cus i've herd Jay rock song on the radio and even seen his video on MTV and 106 and park and i've been hearin about pill and FG for some time now but never herd of XV till now smh.

  • Faubs

    @YoDaddyBrother,
That's four websites TODAY. XV has a buzz, no doubt, and you can't go saying in one post, "I’ve never seen any of those guys (XV) mentioned on any other blog" and then in the next post be sarcastically sayin, "a whopping 4 websites with him on it." dude IS gettin a buzz on, and when you ask where his mixtape was highly rated..? Try just about every blog. Not much negative shit being said bout Everybody's Nobody, DJ Booth picked it as mixtape of the year. Just cuz you be hearing Jay Rock and Nipsey Hussle on the radio doesn't mean they're more deserving of a freshman spot than a dude like XV. We all know the absolute shit hip-hop that ends up on the radio these days. He may not have insane hype but hip-hop heads know who he is and most of em respect his shit. XV has a more unique style than a couple of the gangsta-rappin dudes you're defending anyways.

  • http://twitter.com/89theBrainchild 89er

Why is Pac Div being brought into contention??? until they break up and go solo... cuz this cover has been for solo acts. OJ sucks but has had the most mainstream exposure. of the freshman. Jay Rock has been around for quite a while but so has Wiz. if it wasn't OJ u think it would've been Vizzy? i dig the homie but Nicki Minaj was on it originally then OJ filled in and i'm sure they would've chose Waka prob. New
Breed of Hustler was the theme hear. and if fooling us getting on the radio wit SUB PAR LYRICS AND CONTENT ain't a fawkin hustle idk wat the fawk is

  • http://jonniehaywardyoungboy.blogspot.com JonnieHayward

XV already outshined J. Cole in a 1 on 1 cipher (XV's off the top of the head rhymes were better J. Cole was nice when he spit written shit), outshined Big Sean on a track, and Wiz Khalifa, he deserves to be on the list based off of skill alone

  • ace*

groups don't make the covers guys. tanya morgan, u-n-i, and pac div were inside last years mags.

it's sad that xv didn't make it though. the only people worthy of their spots on this are wiz, fashawn, big sean, and j cole. jay rock is an exception too

  • http://twitter.com/jayfernoUB Jay Ferno

i agree with dat dude chris...i think that was his name...anyway i'm good with this years list minus o.j. da juiceman.

  • B-boy

What's the latest xv mixtape I need to hear people hypein dude like he dope ass hell

  • brianbrown

I agree with all of those who say XV/Dom/Emilio should be on the list. And I just saw the video where OJ just got booed off the stage. I find that quite hilarious. That dude is awful. If he came to Nashvilee, I'd boo him too. That dude sucks. Overall, this list was pretty good. Nowhere near as good as last year's but on the same level as the first one in my opinion.

  • Jesus

    @tms

Yeah, but they put Blu on there, who already had 3 albums out and had been doing it for a long time too. Same with CurrenSy and Wiz, who are old, and have been in the game for a minute, so the whole having-to-be-new and young thing doesn't work.

  • http://www.iamreez.com Reez

XV should of been on the list true enough, but get off his nuts. He didn't make it, I'm sure he's not somewhere in a corner whimpering like most of yall. As a matter of fact, he's dropping a new mixtape called "30 Minute Layover" later today. @YoDaddyBrother you gotta get your facts straight fam b4 you start talking. XV has been on an MTV freestyle, had a spread in a major magazine, & dropped a critically acclaimed mixtape called "Everybody's Nobody" hosted by DJ Enuff. I've also seen him on more than 15 blogs & in countless interviews like the one with Crack Distributor Radio. OJ should definitely go kill himself after that TRAVESHAMOCKERY of a freestyle & who cares if he can sell out a club in Atlanta, he should be able to do that! Can he sell out a club in New York or Cali? That's the question. I'm sure XV could sell out a club in Kansas, that's nothing. Please quit complaining about him not making the list, who cares. Look at half of the Freshmen from last years list, what are they doing now? Case closed...

seriously, some ppl hate last years list but i thought 90% of them were set to change the game, they might not have blown up but i still listen to them so it doesnt matter. this year they picked mad unoriginal cats to just throw in there minus J. Cole, Fashawn, Wiz, Gibbs and Big Sean (only because i respect his hustle) wtf happened to the eclectic flow of last years list, everyone was on some different shit. this list is sprinkled with boring.
