Jay-Z – Most Kingz f. Chris Martin (prod. DJ Green Lantern)

blame it on Shake August 30, 2010

This was featured on Green Lantern’s new Invasion Radio 2k10 mixtape;; but I wanted to give it some more shine as the back story is quite interesting. The vocals for this were originally recorded for Kingdom Come, but never made the cut as a beat was never found. Pieces of the verses ended up on the Grammy Family freestyle on Hot97 w/ Funk Flex in 2006 as well as Coldplay’s Lost (rmx).

“This is my version working with the acapella…I’ve had this since 2006 and it was supposed to be on the Presidential Invasion mixtape–that never came out. Then Hov rapped these lyrics over his HP commercial drums, and the acapella went to a few different producers in search of a beat for it. I heard a Timbaland version and I think Just Blaze and a few others had it too. But by the time they made Beach Chair, I think Jay was over trying to find a beat for Most Kingz. Then he went to Flex show and the rest is history…” – Green Lantern

They are both the best at what they do and I think they should do a whole album together.

dope song, but the beat doesn’t really go well with it.. good effort by green lantern though bc that’s a tough thing to do

  • Adi Pre

Damn, the Borough track is nice!

  • Deep Depths

Decepticons… LoLifes… I remember those days! Brooklyn track is really a trip down memory lane. Dope!

  • AM

    Kingdom Come is dope!

  • ✓P

Dope! Love the beat. Chris Martin’s part sounds kinda off though.

  • Northside

what instrumental is that on The Borough?? thats naaasty!!

  • this is one of my favorite jay verses. definitely shows why he is the best… good move from the hov camp to keep this verse in rotation and on peoples mind so no one forgets it

  • Yatti

  • GR

Sample is “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by The Beatles, written by George Harrison.

Lol, I wonder how that saw the light of day. Dope beat though

  • Strange Famous

Whatt! I only ever heard the “see Martin see Malcolm” verse. This is crazy, He should have found a place for this on kingdom come.

  • kwyjibo

Chris Martin sounds terrible on this :(
I find it hard to believe that this was the best production they could find for these two on a song.

  • T

fire…fuck the jay haters. chris martin’s “keep on goin til you reach the top” line sounded wack as fuck tho. other than that this is hot

  • tony nguyen

whats the beat in the beginning of the track of “Most Kingz”?

  • Slimmy

    Both recycled verses though…still fire

  • Casso

Not sure how Jay came up with these verses — first heard em on a Flex show couple years back — but he needs to keep doin’ it. These are the best lyrics he’s spit in a while. They’re not boring. Too much of his stuff sounds like he’s phonin’ it in.

“See Jesus, see Judas. See Ceasar, see Brutus … “To be Bobby then you gotta be Bobby now.”

  • kadillak

@ tony … the beat is from Jay’s “Dead Presidents”

  • Simon Vegas

NOT TRUE! i produced the original song. it was just too late to make the kingdom come deadline. don’t believe the hype.

  • crazy!

  • Higher Up

The first verse is from the Coldplay song Jay was on, “Lost+.”
