  • itsacelebrationbitches

for some reason i felt like dre had done a video same kinda stop motion concept before...idk, i just want the album already so i can see if dre still has it.

this was a decent single but honestly akon on the hook was spitting in the face of his legacy....nate dogg anyone? wtf

  • BusterMcFowl

Ya the first single off 2001 was Still DRE. For detox we get, "kush." But still the beats bang and detox won't disappoint. Kush ain't even bad. The songs fine too.

  • FUCK

everyone knows this old nigga dre aint smoking no kush. fuck outta here bum ass nigga

  • http://berpwillie.bandcamp.com Berp Willie

video's decent, but the song is kind of meh.....

  • http://thenls.blogspot.com/ Mr Z.

    "Yeah !"

  • red

You can agree or disagree, but at a time where Wiz is making his way onto the radio and Snoop Dogg is trying to work with Wiz, they should have added Wiz to an otherwise very underwhelming single.

  • Smokestack

@itsacelebrationbitches Nate Dogg's been paralyzed from the neck down since 2008. If he could still sing, he would probably be all over the album and it's singles. Unfortunately there will never be a replacement. Someone who sounds like a man, and sings about shit other than fucking and breaking up.

  • Van City

    this is dope as fuck!!

  • Willie Allen

I could see Wiz on this too, but i'm sure he has a verse or two, by himself or ghostwritten, on the album. But as for the video, I immediately thought of the T-Pain joint but this one was still cool...I actually like the song more than I should. Hopefully we'll get the album in Feb

AND EVERY SMOKER KNOWS OLDER HEADS SMOKE THE BEST SHIT.

  • Maga D

1 Dre down, 300 left to go, lol. Nice song, not really my style anymore though, but I can appreciate it.

  • BILLYClint

I'll kiss you like drizzy kiss wayne < er try world class wrecking crew, try NWA? try Nate dogg? try all of snoops albums? try the chronic? try 2001? eminem is nt wat made him famous . in my humble opinion. peace.

alex brown< looooooooooooooooool u nearly got me with that 1 ...wiz better than akon? looooooooooooool . no shots at wiz. but wiz is just starting out..akon is internationally known. go europe hes hot. go u.s hes hot. go africa hes hot. go asia hes hot. and dude is cakin of lady gaga. him and wiz are nt to b compared, let wiz breathe n live first. come bk in 10 years.

  • tikki8878

    I love this shit!!!!

  • BILLYClint

alex brown i think nate dogg was on the track doin the "hold up wait a minute let me put sum kush up in it". sounds like his voice to me.

  • Bryce Ayyy

At first listen, of course you're going to be skeptical of it.
I listened to this track again 2 weeks ago, shit is actually bumping. Video's definitely fresh and makes me like the song a bit more.

Too many people want a "MONSTER" single and honestly, we haven't had a "MONSTER" single that's impacted Hip-Hop in a MAJOR way since the early 00's. Maybe "AMilli"/"Best I Ever Had" but other than those, I don't expect singles to smash the set. "Power" was a great ass song but it doesn't get shown much love on radio's nor music television.

Which is why I wait for the album as a whole...we all watching you Doc, fuck this up and that's your reputation nigga.

  • George Clooney

I was a little underwhelmed by Kush when I first heard it(like pretty much everybody else), but it's been weeks now, and what I've noticed is it's actually catchy as hell. I get the fake Nate Dogg "hold up, wait a minute" part in my head all the time.

It's just signature Dre. And he brought the "two braids in his hair" Snoop back with him. I'm hoping there'll be some actual surprises on the album, but this shit still gets the job done. Dope video, too.

  • PRalines

Dr. Dre is a 40 year old man. I cant wait to see what he raps about on detox.

  • fuckwitdreday

WHAT POSSESSED THIS NIGGA TO WEAR THT JACKET?? LMFAO THATS WHTS BUGGIN ME HE NEEDA TO PUT THT RAIDER CAP BACK ON AND HE'LL BE AIGHT

  • BB

didn't think would that dope, shit is aight but you cannot replace nate doggg

  • brian

If this is the first single, any news on the album release date? Hopefully he's not going to pull a 50 and release like 2 videos over 6 months and then wait a year to release the album that those songs are on.

  • http://nyc.com zany blunts

i still feel like that should be nate dogg, not akon =/

no hate for akon, akons great, im just sayin nate would be better...

  • Bryce Ayyy

    @BILLYClint

You're missing what he's saying, the reason Dre is STILL relevant to newer/younger age groups is Eminem.

Dre has had no one continue to carry on his work these past 10 years. Snoop definitely kept the ball rolling with tracks like "Drop it Like it's Hot" but he's Dre's friend, a completely separate artist.

Eminem is Dre's protege who's been carrying on his legacy, still continuously utilizing his beats. The newer aged kids wouldn't really be too educated on who Dre is if Eminem wasn't around.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying Eminem MADE his career or makes him still relevant to all of Hip-Hop because I dig Dre regardless of his absence and I don't need Eminem to appreciate/still listen to Dre's old shit. But teens today, you ask them what comes to mind when they hear the name, Big L and them niggas will think it's short for the TV show "Biggest Loser".

Dre's definitely a vet and should be acknowledged for his achievements and definitely won't be forgotten by us who grew up on him. But Dre has been out the spotlight and even in peripheral vision for over 5+ years. In that time we've gone from people holding up they glasses grinding on hoes to "How We Do" to motherfuckers trying to niggas dance battling AGAINST females to songs like "Teach me how to Dougie".

To still be a whisper or even have knowledge passed on to the younger generation of listeners you need someone to carry on your work, your name, and that person would be someone that you took under your wing.

  • JG

People who are saying this wasn't the best choice for a single need to realize, it was NOT Dre's decision to make it that way. The song leaked and the streets liked it, so he just went with it. As far as not having Nate Dogg on the video (or track since that wasn't him singing even though it sounds like it) was all due to his health issues. If he was able to be involved, I'm sure he would have been. Dope track... dope video.

  • g-peater

This song is growing on me....dope video

  • http://shuttersandsounds.wordpress.com SAS

@Smokestack - I had no idea that Nate Dogg's been paralyzed. How did that happen?

I like the video. The concept was cool and I haven't seen the T-Pain video, so I didn't have to feel like it's already played.

  • yessah

Crazy video, Dre's lookin ollld tho

  • nig_unit

idk if it was simply some awful editing or what, but everytime dre opens his mouth, he looks like he wants to be anywhere but on set. I wish they wouldve had more than 2 sets (plane, club) tho

  • Maika

How the hell ppl can hate on this ?
Dr. Dre is back. Detox is comin. Words
This is anotha dre day !

  • dunk

one wrong move and he would have incredible hulk'd his ass out that jacket. what was he thinking with that shit?

  • George Clooney

If you were still in the nutsack when Chronic, Doggystyle, and WORSE, when 2001 dropped, you really need to shut the fuck up in regards to Dre's age. He's not trying to hide his age in any way. And the man is a legend.

Swear to god rap fans are some of the biggest fuckin idiots on earth when it comes to an artist's age. You think the majority of Miles Davis fans, or Jerry Garcia fans, or Johnny Cash fans wanted them to hang it up while they were still fully capable of making good music? No, they let those dudes ride it out til they died. People like David Bowie and Bob Dylan have been making music for over 5 decades. Who gives a shit about age?

It's only in hip hop where there's a stigma about age, and the sad thing is, the biggest and essentially BEST artists in rap are generally in their 30s, and even 40s. You youngbucks need to find a new way of knockin these old heads out the box, cos at the end of the day, Kanye, Snoop, Dre, Em, Jay, Nas, 3000, Bun B, Scarface and a lot of other artists are still contributing more significant work than the current generation is to the culture.

In 5 years the next crop of "Generation ADD" kids will be like Wiz who?

  • Kevo

    @PRalines

Same thing Jay Z raps about at 41

  • Bryce Ayyy

Why are people commenting on Dre's attire like he's rocking some shit Lady Gaga picked out.

If you dig fashion and upscale/mature wear, that shit is fresh homie. Now he may look strange in it because the Doc WE KNOW usually wears big ass jersey's, fitted caps or jean jackets outfits but this ain't 10 years ago...Dudes buffed up(don't know if it's due to 'roids) and ain't gone be wearing that shit no more. He's a grown ass man rocking grown man attire.

Now if he was wearing that shit Kanye sported at the VMA's then I'd agree with you...that nigga looked like a spokesperson for "Big Red".

  • Bryce Ayyy

    @George Clooney

"Kanye, Snoop, Dre, Em, Jay, Nas, 3000, Bun B, Scarface and a lot of other artists are still contributing more significant work than the current generation is to the culture.
In 5 years the next crop of “Generation ADD” kids will be like Wiz who?"

definitely co-sign. Aside from a handful of artists in the mainstream not many are showing promise of a good representation of Hip-Hop culture for the future.

    2 Rap Legends !
    Show some Love!

  • DUTCH

umm nobody thinks all white chicks bein in the video with all blk dudes is a problem

  • REBEL

@George Clooney , I feel you. I think young dudes get mad cause they cant make music as good as the older artist. Also in every other form of music outside of rap , the older you get , the more respect you get. like in rock and r&b and lets not forget that people in there 30s , 40s, and 50s, still listen to hip hop. Believe it or not , there are lil wayne , Jay z and snoop dogg fans who are in their late 50s. I used to work at a record store , I know. When older cats get together at bar bqs , house partys ,etc. They dont all just listen to old church music , some still smoke kush , drink ciroc and like to have a good time. Good music is just good music and thats coming from a young dude still in his 20s...

  • 5%er

@George Clooney.Very valid point.am younger than Soulja Boy but i'm a stan of most of the MC's u've named ie Nas,Scarface and Andre3stacks.And i don't care about their ages.I hope Nas rips the mic til he's 50!!

  • invitado

age doesnt affect good music the subject manner does. Nobody wants to hear a 45 year old dude talking about smoking weed, fucking bitches, and his cars i know thats all he could ever do but grow up smh

  • John

    Video's alright.
Song is not great, I don't wanna hear another song about smokin'

yea dre been out the spot for a minute..but still eminem is testament to dres great mind..without dres production/marketing/mind the world wudnt have eminem in the way we have had him..eminem is still a child of dre

  • bucknasty

made me appreciate the song more than i did before. dre needs to get a different jacket though, smh.

    i miss g-funk :(

Snoop bit Wiz's flow hardbody, c'mon double g

  • REBEL

@Kevo , as for as Jay z goes first listen to every song he made at any age he dropped , and tell me the age group hes speakin too. On his first album he was 26 talkin to people in there 30s. When Jay z raps , hes mostly takin to older people , he makes songs like D.O.A and OFF THAT for the youngstas. I think one big thing that people miss about JAYZ is who hes talkin to. If you are stupid or not old enough to appreciate big business money talk , you probably just like his beats. Im not sayin he doesnt go in for the younger crowd but they gotta really listen close to understand to true meaning of his genius.

  • ATL

love dre but his use of piano chords is getting old as fuck

  • http://www.keepsix.com/ Sneak

Am I mistaken in thinking I hear Nate Dogg sampled in the background in this song?? I totally agree that Nate should be all over this album, but alas his health is still quite poor.

Maybe Dre has some Nate chorus's in the vaults that could be used as a hook similar to (what I assume is nate in the background of) "Kush"

  • J

  • REBEL

And that aint a diss to any young people , but as far as Jay z and DR dre. I think their albums wont get the full respect they deserve until some more time passes. Cause they put so much in the music , alot of it goes over heads.

  • DaWa

Dope ... Dre is livin legend, but if was the Game's verse in video it would be more doper

song is growing on me. i could see why other people would like it.... its good to see there is a video for it. that means detox is really coming. dre likes his product and is going to give it to us

  • REBEL

@smh , Did you just say that Snoop Dogg is biting Wiz kalifa ? Are you crazy , Snoop came out in 92. That means every style in the game he can flip his flow , and has done a hundred times already. Snoop has dropped all styles , fast , slow , complex , simple , storys , etc. COME ON SON!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bryce Ayyy

    @BILLYClint
Exactly, you're proving my point man. Eminem's a testament to Dre's mind. Which is why people will remember Dre because of the impact his protege made. But I'm pretty sure we see eye to eye on the topic.

Younger cats wouldn't know about him to much aside from his "Beats by Dre" headphones. Knowledge of Dre's greatness as well as his impact on Hip-Hop and how he molded Eminem into the artist they love will come from Eminem's success.
Em's a child to Dre but anyone who's a father to someone will be acknowledged and praised by the accomplishments of their son(s). That brings attention to the father for those who hadn't had the experience to get to know him.

  • REBEL

@ BILLCLINT , I gotta get at everybody I guess. Em aint the only protege of DRE , there is also , Snoop , ICE CUBE , EASY E , MC REN , TUPAC , 50 CENT , THE DOG POUND , NATE DOGG , DOC , SCOTT STORCH , EVE , JOELL ORTIZ and many others. Plus DRE was a world wide successful mc before he even met eminem.

Best Hip Hop Video in a lonnnnng Time. I am not talking about the song, I am talking about the video. Everyone has tried to do the stop motion video, this video shit on em all.

  • 91&^UP

@ BILLCLINT , I gotta get at everybody I guess. Em aint the only protege of DRE , there is also , Snoop , ICE CUBE , EASY E , MC REN , TUPAC , 50 CENT , THE DOG POUND , NATE DOGG , DOC , SCOTT STORCH , EVE , JOELL ORTIZ and many others. Plus DRE was a world wide successful mc before he even met eminem.

    -----------------------------------------
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Out of all of those i would say only 50 cent was a "protege of dre.

Ice cube certainly wasnt, Eazy was more Ice Cubes Protege since he wrote his shit, MC Ren wrote Dre's shit for him, Tupac sold a million records before he even worked with Dre, DOC made his beats and wrote his lyrics,
Scott Storch was a member of The Roots before he even worked with Dre, Eve was his girlfriend, not protege. She worked with Swizz beats beforeDre anyway.
And Dre has had more of a hand in Joell Ortiz's career stalling than progressing.

  • Maya

beat is ill, the hook is so-so.... but everyone would be talking about how dope this is if it came from any artist other than dre

  • George Clooney

    @ 91&^UP

Ice Cube was working on a local level with CIA, rapping like the Beastie Boys before he met Dre through Eazy. So yeah, while he may not have necessarily been a Dre "protege", he definitely came up under Dre's musical guidance.

And btw, both Ren, Cube, AND D.O.C. wrote for BOTH Dre and Eazy.

    D.O.C. never made any beats.

Pac didn't have one platinum album before working with Dre. Signingwith Death Row, and California Love in particular, were the catalysts for his later success.

    Eve was never Dre's girlfriend.

And Dre didn't slow shit down for Joell at all. He merely over-promised and didn't deliver. Joell released the Bodega joint while signed to Aftermath, and Dre didn't interfere.

    Speak facts, not assumptions.

  • REBEL

@91&up , Dres influence was already in hip hops atmosphere from the beginning , and to be a great mc you need technical know how. Each one of the mcs I named spent many hours in the studio with Dre and the people I named said out of their own mouths during the years that Dre was there to boost their careers when they needed it. Em is skilled yes , but he also has something else that has sold millions of records for him. Look at pop acts and rock acts sales numbers , they always sale far more then black artist. If Em was black , well you know the rest.... Em even said it himself in his own music. DR Dre has more weight under his belt then Eminem. Snoop , 50 cent , and Tupacs 5 million salen album with Dre on the single speaks for itself.

  • George Clooney

And let's not forget that Eve was signed to Aftermath, then Ruff Ryders, and then gotback with Dre later. I'm just saying, get your shit straight.

  • DontGetIt

I was really down on this song at first but seeing Snoop and Dre actually interacting like it's gottdamn Deep Cover makes it tolerable.

  • TheChron

If you were still in the nutsack when Chronic, Doggystyle, and WORSE, when 2001 dropped, you really need to shut the fuck up in regards to Dre’s age. He’s not trying to hide his age in any way. And the man is a legend.

Took 10 years to make some mediocre shit like this? hmm...

Foolish ass people blinded by the fact it's Dre and they've been waiting so long, convincing themselves this is some hot ass shit. Respect is due to Dre regardless, but come on...

Video was a long winded advertisement for his products.

Hope Detox will actually have some good stuff on it, cause 'Kush' isn't really getting my hopes up for it. Oh well.

  • Mr. Sensible

Lol, why the fuck would Dre put Wiz Khalifa in the video? Just because they both like kush? If that's the case then 90% of the hip-hop community should've been in here too. And Wiz is not THAT hot right now for Dre to include him, nor has he had enough longevity. And, Dre's a vet... he's not gonna include a new school dude in a video that's been 10+ years in the making.

Only person that could've been in this video that wasn't (excluding Nate) would've been Em, 50, or Bishop Lamont or something. Or they might've been and I missed them, since they were in the BTS video.

  • REBEL

This is just one song , maybe the album will still be the shit. I just wanted to also point out that Dre is a teacher at this. He trys to helps mcs at the recording level. If you need to punch- in your bars to complete a verse , you need breathe control. If you keep poppin on you shitty mic , you need voice stamina. If your all over the beat , you need to find the pocket. These are things Dre hears and corrects so that we get great albums.

Really nice video & I find it funny he got one of his old boys on the track. Snoop and Dre together combined there age is prbly over 100 right or close lol

  • Rezo

I'm just sitting here perusing through the comments on this post, and I must say that you all are some very unintelligent neanderthals. I feel like I'm at an all-black high school lol.

Obviously Dr Dre knew that he had a smash on his hands when he heard this beat, but was forced to intersperse proerbial space with Snoop due to label politics. His blatant use of drums is very fitting given his penchant for making rap beats, which rectifies his entire use of cymbals sans high hat, which most of you fucking idiots probably didn't even realize.

I'll bet you fucking retards are wondering where Nate Dogg is too. Well, idiots, he's on the song. Dre couldn't get Nate to come to the stu, cos he was in a coma at the time, but he brought his portable turntables to the hospital and cut the shit live from his sl 1200s. This is how classics are made, you geniuses. And given Dre's penchant for using music as a medium for expressing his interests in Mexican culture, the results are fairly simple, which most of you fucktards are completely oblivious to.

Fuck, I'm surrounded by less intelligent ppl always!

  • Rezo

Furthermore, if Dre were to antiquate the developmental purposes of his expressed interest in promoting his gear, you'd have your answer, fuckin idiots.

  • JWIII

Incredibly ill video. Full of swag and grown man class. Very stylized and dope. Nice to see Dre & Snoop interacting during Snoop's verse.

  • REBEL

@REZO You feel like your at a all black high school lol, it aint that serious man... You said a whole bunch of shit , when you could just said the song is good. How do you know that Dre is forced to do anything by label politics ? Snoop on the track is just westcoast classic shit. You may think his music is to express his love for mexican culture , but maybe hes just expressing L.A culture. Which is a melting pot of alot of cultures. Calm down.

didn't see anyone mention in the thread that nate dogg is not on the song, it is another dude called sly. there is even a video of him laying the vocals and dre said it was him on the radio. he's doesn't seem to be in this video though!

I come to this website to make my three inch penis feel larger. I read more books than anyone in this community, and in doing so, I am the biggest nerd here. I don't leave my mom's basement very often. I spend my time reading articles and basing my entire opinions around a biased perspective. I use the internet as a place to talk trash to people who don't agree with me to counteract my low self-esteem.

    This beat bangs, don't front

Well, fucktards, and that imbecile impersonating me with the three inch dick line har har, you wouldn't know a purposeful, meanigful diatribe on rap culture if it bit you on your asses.

Dre is presenting a whole new way of producing dope beats by incorporating what has long been lacking for some time now, in the sense that he is splicing styles in terms of beats by accordingly showing his growth as a producer. His rhymes are in a sense an extension of his thoughts by which he regards us his listeners.

How many rap producers currently merit that in terms of gauging the listening experience from the perspective of the audience. By releasing the music to the public, he is giving us a firsthand look at what his music sounds like, from the perspective of the listener/audience. How many artists today do the same? Of course, label politics have subjected him to further limits in terms of which medium he can create these constituent forces by, in terms of Eminem, thereby allowing this to take place in the first place.

But of course, you fucking idiots already knew that. How many mexican examples? Answer: 10.
