TheWellVersed and 2DopeBoyz have collaborated for a special series of interviews that go beneath the surface and deliver a 2 dope conversation. Here, Killer Mike explains why people dislike “conscious” rap, reveals details on his upcoming album “The Elegant Elephant,” talks about the chemistry between he and El-P and ponders a collaboration album with Immortal Technique and possibly Brother Ali.

    Killer Mike is dope and I definitely hear the Ice Cube influence in his music but he just basically said Common, Mos Def, Talib, Lupe(even though he gave him props), and in some sense even Outkast, are all pussies. I get what he’s trying to say but he should understand that just because you rap angry and yell and scream your lyrics doesn’t actually mean its hard and just because some artists mite rap in his normal tone of voice doesn’t mean their style is soft.

    “CONSCIENCE” MUSIC @ 1:53 THOUGH. CMON SON, WHO LET THAT ONE SLIP?

    Interesting…

    Best album so far this year.

  • I would not necessarily call Killer Mike a conscious rapper. He’s not that deep. I think he is the typical hood rapper he just adds a little more commentary about life shit and politics than the average MC but when I listen to him I’m not more wiser than before. He’s too gassed up. And all that yelling takes away from the message sometimes.

    @KingMidas

    Well said. I definitely agree.

  • Real Talk

    That’s the one thing that I’m not feeling, like King Midas said, just a little too gassed up on himself and his beliefs.
