blame it on Shake June 24, 2013
StatikSelektahEPcover

Out of all the #June18 releases, Statik Selektah’s Extended Play is easily your best bet if you’d like a variety of emcees “showing off” over some dope sample-driven boom bap. Featuring the likes of Black Thought, Raekwon, Styles P, Bun B, Hit-Boy, Pro Era, Mac Miller, Blu, Evidence, Reks, Mike Posner, Freddie Gibbs, Joell Ortiz, Sean Price, Action Bronson and many more, the fifth album from the Massachusetts producer has a little something for everyone. And now a week removed from it’s official release date, the Dopehouse would like to ask y’all for your thoughts. What was your favorite track? Who had the best verse? How does EP stack up to his previous efforts? Let us know…

The rest of the album was alright, nothing CRAZY upon first listen. Need to do another listen. I think the best song is Bird’s Eye View and Black Thought’s verse is easily the best. “The most notorious, Poet Laureate. Whole story is glorious, stoic warriors.”

  • jaydee

    Birds Eye View

  • Don

BIRD’S EYE VIEW but that joint with Bun, P & Hit boy was good, Also 21 & over and the Action Bronson joint.

  • Just My Opinion

Pinky Ring with Prodigy is ill. That joint with Pro Era & The Alchemist is dope as FUCK as well. Probably the best June 18th project that dropped overall.

  • Sampson

I love that Styles P…Joell Ortiz…Action Bronson…Bun B…Prodigy and even Jadakiss all on one Album.

  • I love the whole album. I really wish producers/rappers/listeners would take notes from Statik. He’s the closest we have to a real hip-hop producer. His soulful/boppy genre reaches from coast to coast, not just the east. But East Coast was probably the best track. It was hype/soul/hard/original track.

But the whole album is wayy too nice. Gz Pimps and Hustlers is easily a close second. Slaine really did his thing. Gangster Gibbs always sounds better on a Selektah beat, I don’t know why.

Joey was featured a lot, but it seemed like he focused too much on his spiritual awakening subject matter. I guess Capital STEEZ’s influence is still really strong in him, so i respect that. I can’t wait for more Statik beats on Pro.Era records. Those kids have the potential to change the game to its glory days.

  • marty mcfly

this album is wack because the god jay isn’t on every song

all these other rappers are inferior and will never write any classics like jay

jay is writing the second bible, because he is the second coming of jesus

  • marty mcfly

and homotroll you praise me with your daily trolling as if I am God to you. I know you worship me and praiseth my name for you are a disciple of mine. So please human sacrifice your self to the higher power which is I your God. I forgive you my child but as long as you praise me you only add more to the belief that I am greater then you. LOL

  • marty mcfly

    ^^^

stop using my name you faggot. i’ll write a couple of essays to respond to you if you don’t STFU. i’m right and your wrong. i worship jay, and jay doesn’t like fake fucks like you using my name.

FO REAL DOE…BOOM BAP IS BACK!!!! ITZ DA RETURN!

  • skittles4hoes

    yo styles p tho…

  • Cramp

    Real rap. Plain and simple.

  • Sk88

Bird’s Eye View hands down. Black Thought with the best verse.

  • Mike

Same shit different album, nothing mind blowing from the producer, wish he actually tried some G shit and pushed his boundaries. A collective of dope MCs doesn’t automatically make the album amazing. Plain and simple it felt like Statik was just another beat maker.

I give it a 3/5. All the other albums blew this out the water.

  • wat

AGREED Mike. Statik could’ve done better. None of the beats really stood out, which in turn made none of the features really stick out.

  • Yasser

I agree with the above in that it is kinda same shit different album . And Im a big Stat fan. He should do a little more experimenting cause his sound is pretty much the same through all him albums…then again most people get disappointed in an artist when they change their sound up.

  • Pre

Fav tracks – The Spark and My Hoe.

  • Rootsunda

The Spark is my joint, Statik is my man but this album is wack..The beats are just weak.
