  • ALD

Pretty Good. Just hope other responses are on other beats.

  • chuck

i like joel but this aint touchin that verse.

I also think that shit was kinda taken outta context personally. I think he was sayin hes on top of the game from coast to coast. jugglin both as if the country is his.

he killed it regardless though and its funny to see how everyone has an opinion

    Joell Ortiz's response > Kendrick's verse

Although Joell had the leverage of being first to respond (even though no one was talking to him) and he seemed salty in general which fueled him to really go in on this though. Like you can't say it's not impressive even if you don't like Joell.

  • HhH

    It was not impressive

  • alex

    better than kendrick

  • super yams

inb4 new york bias......whoops, nevermind. K. dot still ahead

  • Spencerdamus

it was cute he responded. but 1. whos joell ortiz? 2. he did get dissed when he said he was king of new york. 3. he did a horrible job to respond to something that wasnt a personal diss, dude is living like it's 10 years ago. he's gotta take the hint. hes talking about rihanna in the diss. sigh. next up please.

    • cmentsole

If you have to ask who Ortiz is, you need to eliminate yourself from the conversation. He's from NY, an he reps that. If someone from another coast even claiming king of my city, I'm def takin it personally. Are you people listening to what the man said? He bodied "Kdot..." Mediocre rappers tryna come at a whole city of beasts. Sure fire way to end your career

      • Jcedeno71

No doubt!!!! You just can't come out like that and think nobody gonna say nuthin!!!

  • jobie

Kendrick Just keeping his buzz going by rapping, not by this TMZ stuff we normally see. Joell trying to ride his wave lol. dude wasnt even mentioned. but i like that this is coming. that song gonna get relesed as a single somehow

  • 1

the ONLY one i can see really having the slightest chance against Kendrick would be elzhi...but i don't think he really cares

    • andre

Elzhi isn't new and he's from detroit anyways

  • mad

i liked it first time in a min joell dropped something good i hope bigger rappers respond tho

  • Underground

Seeing as how Kendrick is garbage and his lyrics are stale, Joell tears him apart, lyrically. Kendrick is overrated and I don't see why people think he's good. It doesn't make sense... Lol.

    • BigFACE

      Ty bruh

  • Flip

stop dick riding kendrick, tru talk...ortiz bodybag kendrick

  • T9FTW

Joell really tore him apart on this. I PREFER THIS over the original. Waiting on that CDQ...

  • Confidence

If this is new york, can we even decipher a sample in this beat? I mean if you gonna bring it, you can't just bring it on the mic, it has to be on all fronts. I barely hear a snare. what is this gabage!

  • Asada

    This isn't a diss it's a battle

  • WheresMethodMansResponse

Anyone who says this verse doesn't slaughter what Kendrick spit is a fucking moron, period. Kendrick's verse was garbage - he named-dropped a bunch of shit rappers anyway. Maybe this will be the launching pad for all of the true lyricists to step up and claim the game again.

    • King

Rappers that the masses listen to. You missed the point! Ortiz is listened to by a fraction, a small fraction, of the people the rappers named reached. Kendrick was calling these niggas to step up their game. Ortiz however was just wanting to be a opportunist. If he wasnt first, his verse would be irrelevant.

Once ppl especially on 2DBZ accept Kendrick Lamar as their Lord and Saviour, they blinded by his awesome lyrics. Pure example of SHEEPLE.... pretending that Joel Ortiz didnt cut him lol

  • alex

give the man props. stop dickriding. ortiz crushed this shit!! Slaughterhouseeee

  • The Vet

@WheresMethodMansResponse "Maybe this will be the launching pad for all of the true lyricists to step up and claim the game again" - you do know that's exactly what Kendrick wants right? If that happens, he wins and Hip Hop wins.

@ttyl you have got to be kidding me, Hip Hop GREW because of beefs and battles, you need a history lesson. This is eliminating both dance-hop and trap-hop from relevancy, no way this is killing Hip Hop even more.

  • Nopost

He is here right now because of Kendrick Lamar. Mission accomplished Kendrick. LOL. Yall fail to see what Kendrick was doing.

    • BigFACE

Wut is he doin Xcept name droppin.. Dats jus as bad as auto-tunin

  • Batrao

Everyone in NY was mentioned when he said he's king of ny

  • rdd08

I didn't expect anything less from a guy like Joell .... or anyone else from SlaughterHouse

but if this Kendrick Verse can get guys like KRIT, Jay Elct., Cole, Wale, Drake, etc. to get more aggressive and Lyrically Go After the Top Spot then the whole HipHop Game will get Better

any Rapper mentioned or Not that Takes themselves seriously as a Lyricist and/or wants to be a Legend should be coming at Kendrick's Neck right now

  • Kay K Rosemond

I just wanted to see who'd be first, I like but not super impressed man! why a jab at badu?

  • JHP

All Joell Ortiz is good at being is a battle rapper. Slaughterhouse can get on a song and spit a barrage of multi-syllable bars and punchlines for 15 minutes, and they'll shit on people. Ortiz did stomp on this beat, I won't deny that. It's not like K. Dot was personally going at him or anything though, comparing a verse that was speaking in general, to a direct response focused on one person is dumb. The thing about this, none of Slaughterhouse are going down as the best in the game. As great as they are at being battle rappers, they are weak as overall artists. What signature classic song do they have individually or together? "Pump It Up"? lmao. I'll take a full package album of great SONGS than I will an album of straight bars anyday. That's just my personal opinion. They are amazing lyricists and battle rappers, but they just aren't great artists. If Kendrick hasn't surpassed them yet, he definitely will have by the end of his career. And the bottom line is this is what K-Dot wanted to do anyway. His one verse, got all of twitter and everyone on the rap blogs talking about whose the best artists. People are really having debates about Hip-Hop, rappers are responding, some of them feel some type of way about what Kendrick said. The whole game is in a frenzy now, everybody is gonna try to step their bars up and compete. So hopefully, we're going to hear some of the best rap music in years in the near future. Hip-Hop is most definitely alive.

  • SoSayWeAll

Niggas need to send kendrick a thank you card. Fuckin around and getting all time high views and dopes.

  • alex

you are an idiot JHP go listen to some slaughter songs before saying they cant make songs you ignorant cock sucker

  • Not Bad. Not Good.

He did good... But it's like... That's it? We're comparing apples to oranges.. Kendrick wasn't even trying to directly diss Joell Ortiz and his diss verse is STILL arguably better.

Joell had over 3 mins of track to diss Kendrick PERSONALLY, and this is the best he could do?

  • http://www.duckdown.com DEEBO718

yall stupid joell just shit on your favorite fag rapper and yall salty ..he stood up for our city ..nigggaz been shittin on ny and now its on ..run ya mouth expect responses we respect other places and lamar cant hang with mc's like joell shit he couldnt even body the verse yall THOUGHT he did..that shit was mediocre..this verse is from a real god mc... why are people turning this into "kendrick's dissing 'so and so'" and "joell is dissing kendrick"? kendrick challenged rappers to step their game up and that's what joell did. this isn't a time to say one is great and the other is garbage. this is a time to be grateful that music like this is coming out and that lyrics are being praised.

  • me

NYC has been catching a fade for years now. First Snoop came in and knocked down the buildings. Then bin Laden and now Kendrick Lamar.

  • bc

people hating on joell because he doesn't have the largest fan base. if it was drake or jay-z or any other "big name" rapper who spit these exact bars, you fake fucks would be praising them.

NOPE DRAKE is a fucking clown yall can keep having that faggot sing sissy ass hooks in yo ears

  • who cares

Yea.... Joell fuckin' bodied this. And that's coming from someone who acknowledges Joell's inconsistency. He could've came a bit harder at K. Dot, but I think he's aware that this isn't a serious "beef" or "battle". With that said, I'm really anxious to see what else we hear from the Hip Hop community. Like Truth173 I'm glad a dope MC was the first to step up instead of all those whack pop rappers he name dropped.

  • coolcat

joell ortiz just salty cuz tde.slaughterhouse. those cats have little appeal or replay value. Why cant joell ortiz snap on his own good song and put out a solid body of work? instead of riding this kendrick wave

    *tde>slaughterhouse

I'm glad K-Dot called everybody out its time to thin out the herd. Everybody and there momma jumping on a mic and putting out garbage with no consequences. hip-hop is something you live rap is something you do. My favorite artist said that.

  • biteme

yeah He called ppl out but Kdot still dick ride lot of industry niggas dont front.

  • theon3

the weakest annoying high pitched voice member of slaughter house had to respond... just lookin for attention like anyone else who gona make a whack response

  • Boogie Down BX

  • smh

Why folks hating on this?? I ain't even a Joell fan but he snapped on this, dude can rap and there is no beef, no dissing, just hip hop. He just being competitive, he ain't diss kendrick.

  • pL

why the fuck does this have nearly 500 dislikes? fkn faggots shouldnt be allowed on this site

  • SHOWMAN3000

I am a big Kendrick fan but I never thought there would be actual "Kendrick Stans" over 400 dislikes??? REALLY y'all are haters straight up! I wish y'all niggas stopped listening to rap!

  • GRyder

reading some of these comments disgust me. Y'all new "generation hiphop fans are so corny. oh "he didnt mention him peronally", or "his money aint as long" or "wheres his hit record on the radio", this IS HIP HOP. Kdot had a dope verse but once he claimed to be the King Of NY (not being a NY'er), all ny artists became involved in that one line. Otiz put this to rest. Minus KDots name dropping and shock value, bar for bar it wasnt even close honestly, Ortiz handled this.

  • who cares

If you didn't think there would be Kendrick Stans then you've been living under a rock.

  • http://dropsmic.com I

If you don't like/are impressed/etc by this, Drake is probably in your top 5 list.

  • smh

I'm a big kendrick fan but you niggas that are hating on this are fags yo. Joell went in, this is hip hop, which means competition.

  • jus10

Easily the best diss track I've heard in yeeeears! Greatness! THANK YOU KEN FOR PISSING OFF REAL MCS. This is that Joell Ortiz sound I want to hear!

  • ‘sheed

I swear I was on this only an hour ago with hundreds of 'dopes' and less only about 80 'nopes'. Someone's salty and spamming the shit out of the 'nope' button.

  • thisguy

I'm more excited to hear a verse from Jay Elec. Where the fuck is Act II!

  • hippaToDaHoppa

Joell did the damn thing, but Kdot still wins for coming first. All the MCs that respond to Kendrick, my question would be why wouldn't you have released a track of you wrecking regardless? You have to get provoked to be motivated? Then you're losing and not doing your job.

  • kingofny

He clearly had a better verse than Kendrick but in the end Kendrick's mission is accomplished, he obviously wanted to spark an energy that's been missing for some time in hip hop. And if older rappers like joell would spend more time putting together great albums instead of worrying about how young kids are wearing their jeans maybe a west coast nigga wouldn't be able to claim king of new York lol.

  • jus10

Yo, I'm sorry, but I have to leave another comment praising Joell. It's only fair since there is all this nonsense hate. This freestlye is >>> Kendrick Lamar and "Our House"

  • ?

Joell ripped it no doubt, but in context he took it kinda salty and we already know he can rap. Kendrick wants the non rapping mainstream niggas to step their bars up.

  • b ali

Joell!! He went in, don't front. And you know this was just a jab lol

This is what hip hop needed. Survival of the fittest like back in the day.

Hip hop is a contact sport.

  • DatGuy

I'ma say this... The verse was good. I wouldn't put it over Kendrick cause after that first rhyme scheme, he wasn't really saying anything. But at the end of the day Joell Ortiz is kind of irrelevant which is why he wasn't mentioned and he kind of says that in the verse. If this did not say "Kendrick Lamar Response," it would not have as many views.. Kendrick has two classic albums and a classic mixtape which is why he is in a position to make such a claim. The artists he mentioned have all put out some good/great products that, with the right moves, could put them in a position to make a similar. That is why Kendrick is challenging them as his competition. But in a few days, no one will be checking for Joell Ortiz. Don't get me wrong, he has some nice rhyme schemes, some nice bars, but I've never heard anything from him that I can call great musically. All them Slaughterhouse dudes can rap, but when it's all said and done, they're not making memorable music.

  • http://2dopeboyz G. Redd

I am a fan of both of these dudes. Kendrick didn't win that. Joell got the chance to answer so of course he has the advantage. Regardless, I love it! This is Hip Hop!

  • Mike

    Good stuff

  • fuck2dbz

This is 2dopeBoyz of course theres hella groupies from both sides on here lol why yall get so upset with other peoples opinions lol like they shovin it in your face lol if you know rap you know joell can spit and you know kendrick has grown from kdot lol cool shit if you ask me.

  • 4real

@Dat Guy... true, I like Ortiz and Slaughterhouse for the individual bars, but they don't make good, memorable, songs or albums.

  • trupaj

Still not fucking with Kendrick Lamar..it's good but not good enuff

  • YEAHBITCH

FUCK EM BOTH HIP HOP GOT SOFT AND CORNY AS SHIT!

You lil ninjas are bugging if you think Joell didn't murder this shit and if you're asking who is Joell Ortiz then you don't know shit about hip hop!

  • Steveopa

I personally think Kendrick was sending a message to all these hot rappers (the main stream rappers) to step their pen game up. I don't personally listen to mainstream rap cause the underground rappers are nicer. I grew up listening to EPMD, RAKIM, ICE CUBE, GHETTO BOYS just to name a few. Record Labels had alot to do with the demise of hip hop. I am glad Kendrick took this stance and he has officially become my favorite of the new school.

  • kingofny

Instead of responding directly at Kendrick lamar like he dissed anybody directly, these rappers need to work on album that people care about, because the lack of those albums is why they aint get a mention lol

  • scoot

Just him responding to the track put him at a disadvantage before I even listened. Regardless of that, his verse was not better than K's. I'll never listen to this a second time.

  • http://tripaud.tumblr.com triPAUD

Dope as expected from Joell. Kendrick's verse was dope, but so was seans and elects'. I don't think kendrick was tellin anyone to step up, just that he has his eyes on the prize and he's determined to the be the best. as all emcees should feel.

  • DatGuy

@kingofny Exactly what I been thinking...

  • MadeN Cali

    Exactly kingofny,

get lyrical with songs that I want buy play in my ride listen to in my crib over and over not just some underground ish...something to make my mind and speakers rock. Kendrick's verse still better without even directly dissin' this Ortiz dude because it was lyrical and creative.

  • gregory kruxx.

Joells my dude, and this was dope. but fa real fa real..He aint touching Kendrick's verse

  • kingofny

if it takes someone else to claim they the king of multiple cities to give you ambition to rap, you need to sit down somewhere, maybe sit down where you were before you heard the track, lol joel is dope though, no hate...jus sayin

  • mike

to respond and actually be effective your history has to match his or even be better. meaning ortiz's success mainstreeam wise aint ish. so even though his verse could be better or not, no one will consider his response a burial becasue they can always say that was dope BUT who is Joel?

  • Sippinlean

Shit foreal I'm really waiting on Big K.R.I.T and I know Joey Badda$$ is gonna something. got love for everyone else but I wanna KRIT and Kendrick go at it bar for bar.

  • Real

These niggas fucked up their last album. They should show lyrical prowess on albums and learn to select beats and structure songs. This is why Kendrick is single handedly murdering you all. Slaugherhouse has all the potential and no delivery. Lamar delivered more in that song than they did in their corny ass last album. Fuck outa Here.

  • grapedrank

    yo dipset should respond doe

  • http://kainteventhatnicehejustunderstandssongconceptsanddelivery j

oh so kendrick is tellin drake jay nas cole etc to step their bars up? kendrick aint even that nice he just understands song concepts and delivery. all it is really is he was in the right era at the right time and caught steam with ppl callin his album the new illmatic lmao. yo, hes just feeling himself right now because he had a good year or so. em n drake alone will eat him

  • really doe

^LMAO.. Em ain't killing nobody.. he's a drugged out washed up has been as far as lyrics. Yeah he's still famous but whatever. Drake makes Rnb rap about bitches and could never spit hard like Kendrick.

Stfu, how could u possibly say Em is really washed up? He would DESTROY Kendrick an hang him to dry. And Drake, no real diss outta him that I can agree with

  • Fromthestreetsofdawood

I wake up in the morning to my son telling me about K.Dot rippin' Control and I'm heading to sleep with an Ortiz response...only lyrics - nobody used an A.K....gotta say it was a good day.

  • YOmarine

Kendrick is so lame, why's he so hyped seriously? Ortiz is a under the radar type rapper, an he (Kendrick) made the diss broad, so I say slay'em Joell, killed him forreal

  • fuck2dbz

lmao @j's comment you fucking groupie ass bitch hahahaha get some knee pads and a fucking chin strap while your down there while drake sings his sissy ass hooks to you bitch boi you! LOL

  • Wow

Ortiz bodied this song... But there's no way in hell this one single song tops Kendrick.
Kendrick is the King of Hip Hop right now and this one song by Ortiz aint doin shit to make a difference.
    Thumbs up for sure though

  • Nunya

"people took it outta context, he said hes makaveli’s off spring, the king of new york as in Biggie"

That's still a diss. That's saying Makavelli son'd Biggie. Tupac can never murder biggie. Tupac was from NY before he was hanging all over Cali nuts. GTFOH

  • Adot

Joell completely bodied that nigga Kendrick lol. Put a child back in a child's place hahaha!! #REALHIPHOP

  • Raadius

Dope, BUT he took it way personal, and Kendrick shot wasn't personal. Joell came off EXTREMELY hurt. If any rapper responds personally you just showing your ({}) hurt.

  • Quickstrike

A nice rap and yes he(Joell) bodied the song, but in the bigger picture it doesn't leave a scratch on Kendrick's reputation. Like others have said a real response should be with a body of work not a freestyle. Context does matter, so if it took this to get a buzz then you're not doing it right. Where has Joell been?! Make a classic record/song excluding Kendrick. This is equivalent to a nigga dropping 60 in the D-League.

JOE BUDDEN DOESN'T HAVE LISTENABLE MUSIC? Cut Your Ears Off Tonight, Please.

JOELL RIPPED THIS, NO BIAS, NO BS...

  • Ifty

Kendrick is trash all this tough talk from a lil midget... He's seen things yes, but has he lived it.. NO

don;t act tough on the mic if you aint about the real street life. On a hip hop tip yesthsi si good, but I KNOW cats like eLZhi and Add-2 will tear Kendrick a new one if they went bar for bar

  • lbc

this site just lost it. look how many tde dickriders and not so many hip hop listeners. smdh

  • A-Trek

@quickstrike, ur stupid go kill yerself. You want to talk about body of work mention kendrick's c4 mixtape which was trash are any of his early music which had him tryin so hard to be a gangster rapper so much so that nobody was calling his music trash and calling him fake.

Al couple of those lines in kendrick's verse is bitten. Kendrick is a forgetful artist. Name a hot line he spit. It's all hunger. Kendrick has got no sick punchlines and that goes for hi entire career. He got attention for biting ab-soul's hiipower. Understand the originators and the followers. Kendrick's career is one of a follower.

How Can he Name Cole,in my opinion Cole is Better than Kendrick, even Nas said so when hip hop was Dead cole ressurect it,did somethn people are scared to Do make his own albums with no Guest Verses Produce his albums, even produced alot of classics tracks for Lamar

  • Bilal

People are sayin Joell doesn't count because he lacks mainstream success? Rap is about who's the nicest not how many records you sell and how popular you are. You can't win against what Kendrick did because of the concept and timing of his verse. Just like doa by jay. but as far as Joell just spit fire which is what Kendrick's whole concept was aimin for.

  • milly

this was kind of weak. not hatin but a fan of joell Ortiz or slaughter house anyways.

He made Joell Ortiz raise his bar up too bad its still wack
just like the rest of his songs

  • eatadick

Your all pussy's, hiphop has always and always will be competitive - this song takes me back to hiphop of the mid 90's where if you couldn't out rap your competitor - you took a fuckin' seat - these new rappers today couldn't begin to understand the mental toughness required to compete in such battles - mac miller straight played himself out on this one... proving the difference of hiphop knowledge between the generations - I almost feel bad for them cause this is just the start - real trill and elite platinum rap genius' have just woken up in beast mode... so to all you wiz, asap, mac fans and just about anyone else of these generations should look for a seat cause this game's bout to punch yo the fuck out - like god intended hiphop to be YA'BISH

  • eZ

Love it. Much respect to Kendrick for putting fire on niggas ASS. Glad Joell hollered back like "Yea nigga im here". He did his thing. Good shyt.

  • suckmyaliennuggetz

Truth needs to be said, Joell Ortiz verse is dope and in league with. Kendrick's. Some Blacks are racist as fuck and just don't wanna admit Joell is a lyrical beast. Bet if a black dude spit the same exact shit verbatim y'all would recognize : Real talk sometimes we just as bad as dem crackers.

  • FRee

Lil Wayne fans wont get this verse. HHID

  • yung

so just because someone doesn't like it their racist? lol stfu clown

  • Chitown

Kendrick made a good move toward getting people to say something lyrical instead of rapping this sesame street shit and so many people taking it wrong. Wake the fuck up....what the fuck was going on before this.....NOTHING....hip hop was dying.
