It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since Soul Khan has dropped any new music. After his Psalm EP dropped, the Brown Bag AllStar’s name only appeared at the Dopehouse for a guest feature and a couple music videos.

Looking to put an end to the hiatus, Soul returns with the J57-produced “Praying For A River.” Take a listen below and get ready for a new free album due out at the top of the year.

verse 1
son, i’m here to bring a lil bit of heat to the climate
that you could hold forever like the peace of the silent
the same hand I used to try to reach for the sky with
just found a black box with a piece of the pilot

i’m tryina make a movement
like warith deen muhammed
and it ain’t gonna move if the machine ain’t behind it
you wanna be grassroots
that’s cool, but cash rules everything around
so your dream’s on consignment

you claiming independent like it’s july 4th
but you pay for them to spin it, what do you lie for
make me wanna hit you with a fucking two-by-four
’til it’s sticking out your head like a unicorn

this ain’t a uniform,
it’s my body to the belly with it
so pour another shot of belvy in it
there’s a war going on inside so either help me win it
or suck my dick and take a selfie with it

hook
for the fish outta water
in his last moment
praying for a river ’round the corner
and for the kids out of order
living mad hopeless
i blame it on the way that they were brought up

verse 2
yo i’mma need that mic back like
attention teachers and students
this is deeper than music
a thunder god’s speaking
son, I’m not leaving ’til the money Joss Whedon
can’t nothing stop me until i’m asleep the with tulips

if i ain’t on your top ten list then y’all don’t know what a top ten is
i’m all that you asked for fans from the trap to the tractor
back court covered in the glass from the backboard

you want to see it simple and plain
the whole picture doesn’t ever really fit in a frame
and sometimes you just live with the pain
like how my right leg gets stiff in the rain

but you don’t hear me complain cause my fam go thru it
and my mans go thru it, so i rambo through it
shit, my mother’s got cancer in her bones
don’t tell me watch a motherfucking throne
soul done changed

hook
for the fish outta water
in his last moment
praying for a river ’round the corner
and for the kids out of order
living mad hopeless
i blame it on the way that they were brought up
