It’s been a dismal week for celebrity deaths this week. Actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment due to a drug overdose earlier today. It’s also with a heavy heart that we report that Anna Gordy Gaye recently passed away on Jan. 31st at the full age of 92 years old. Anna died at her home from natural causes.

Anna Gordy Gaye is best known as the oldest sister to Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records, and ex-wife to Marvin Gaye – whose marriage lasted between 1962 – 1977. She’s also an acclaimed songwriter, having helped pen songs for Marvin, The Originals, Esther Phillips, The Miracles, Rare Earth and more.

In December of 1978, Marvin released his fifteenth studio album, Here My Dear (which is also my favorite Marvin album ever). The concept album explored the turbulent relationship he and Anna shared when they were married, with songs like “Is That Enough” and “Anna’s Song” putting a microscope to their estranged marriage. Listen to Marvin’s “God Is Love,” co-written by Anna Gordy Gaye below.

We send our deepest condolences to the Gaye and Gordy families in this time of mourning.
