not really a fan of either but I could see why xxl would put em on the cover. imo dudes who should be considered are jon connor, cj fly, vic mensa, young thug, chance the rapper, fat trel and starlito. I know im forgettin some but I think if at least a few of those dudes were on there itd be a good list

    • HeruthaGod (Original N-G-R)

Nah not young thug. & starlito is already deep in the game he aint no freshman

      • ForeverWePush

I'm not a fan of young thug at all but I can see how he would be on there, xxl cares about buzz just as much as skill if not more so...

      • fonzo517

i dont really care for young thug either but he has a huge buzz right now and i'm pretty sure xxl will give him a spot just on that. as far as starlito i know hes been rappin for a while now but it seems like he just recently started gettin big with his albums n mixtapes. i mean they gave french a spot when he had already been out for years so i wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get on the cover but imo he should

I'd say no to all three of these dudes. Not a fan of any of them, personally.

  • Ghost Of Len Bias

We're putting singers on the freshman list? I wouldn't consider Ty$ a rapper.

Candidates for XXL freshman list. Vic Mensa, Chance, Vince Staples, Lil Bibby, Lil Herb, CJ Fly, Isaiah Rashad, Underachievers, Denzel Curry, etc.

    • I'm a big fan of UA but they won't put duos/groups on the freshman list.

    • disqus_xpmwx1oUV3

I agree to this list it is very current, especial with some of their releases.

  • Thank Me

Not impressed by these guys. It should be a given that Chance will get it (deservedly so), I just hope they show Vic Mensa some love

  • ForeverWePush

Chance, Isaiah, Vic and Vince should be locks...

  • wat

Chance the Rapper (he'll probably turn it down to be a hipster) and Isaiah Rashad are definites. Maybe Young Thug too. I'd like Vince Staples and Problem on there. Oh and Gunplay, but that's a stretch haha.

    • Jorgefacekillah

... why to be a hipster? and I doubt he'll turn it down. If so, its because he already has two covers without an XXL cosign.

      • wat

He likes to do things differently that others. He said he doesn't want to sign any deals (or put out music for money; something like that) because everyone does.

  • Jorgefacekillah

Troy does not deserve to be on the cover. His whole "I went against the grain of tight jeans and tattoos, and dropped a classic album" is not real or hold any weight. Classics, especially in the era of the "WORLD. WIDE. web," more people than new york should be talking about you. I'm from chicago and I hear Ty Dolla sign, Joey bada$$, and Vince Staples name ring more than him.

I'm not seeing him perform in different cities. Not seeing him being the number 1 (Not even top 10) topic in ciphers or blogs. Yes, he may be poppin in NY but where else? You got to have a bigger buzz than the east coast.

^This!!! Nigga Think He Get A Pass For Being "Anti"

    • disqus_xpmwx1oUV3

Same can be said for West Coast rappers who have buzz in the West, but aint shit over here in the East or down South. There are more LA rappers who I never heard of until recently, that are buzzing down in the West Coast that nigga's in the South and the East are scratchin they're heads at.

      • Guest

I'm speaking specifically about Troy. At least those artist I named traveled outside their regions to gain some buzz. Dude ass goes nowhere but NY.

      • Jorgefacekillah

This may be true, but I'm specifically talking about troy. My random examples (Vince for one) may be big in their regions, but they TOUR. Troy does not tour. So they're showing their faces in places where no one knows them. You can't say you droppin classics and only your block can say it. the world or usa has to agree... or atleast know who you are.

Troy Ave Sucking His Own Dick

  • Quasi.OG

Confidence is important and essential...until the point you become delusional like Troy Ave. The truth is Troy Ave made a little noise with his comment on Kendrick calling him a weirdo but that's it..his tape didn't really do anything. He isn't the first rapper from NY to make "NY hiphop" and he won't be the last. Hell he was rapping over southern and west coast beats just a year ago. When niggas start advertising and yelling," hey i'm being different." they usually aren't...

    • julzthe49ersfan

That Troy Ave mixtape was fire, he should get on the list. Dude reminds me of 50, that new york feel.. idk

  • Jesus Ernesto Alejos

troy ave is doo doo. fuckin corny ass MF! fuck u. u suck. no one is checkin for u bitch
