2Dope to Sleep On: ishDARR

blame it on Shake April 26, 2014

20 minutes. It took just 20 minutes of listening to Milwaukee’s ishDARR for me to become a full-on believer in the kid’s talent.

Actually, it really was just one song. One listen to “They Lost Me” and I knew the 17-year-old emcee from the Midwest was something special. Follow that introduction with “Ready” and his brand new debut EP, The Better Life? Yeah… it’s a wrap.

Don’t just take my word for it though. Press play and let the music speak for itself…

Dude is really NICE!!! Flow is on point! Production is dope. Definitely someone I’ll b checking for in the future. Good call shake.

  • Adi Pre

Feeling the tape a lot, Momma, 1996 and 5. Squad were my faves. Dude is nice on the mic and production was on point.

  • Starks

Nothing special. Cats like these are a dime a dozen. Hit me up with some modern style music opposed to just trying to sound vintage and cliche. I’ll put him in the Joey Badass category.

    • Sirilly

    • biff tannen

He belongs in the Joey Badass category. They’re both dope.

    • Joe Grizzly

Don’t sleep on the kid Bili Ro$e from milwaukee. Member of the collective The Lost If you want something modern

    • Cracker Skull

Joey Bada$$ is a true lyricist. people just can’t get over his age to focus on his music and the lyrics

      • Adi Pre

      • Starks

Joey Badass is not a true lyricist. Just because somebody can rhyme doesn’t mean they’re great. And age? Seriously? I really hope you’re joking. He dropped one average mixtape and has been stagnant ever since.

        • biff tannen

What exactly is the criteria for a “true lyricist”? I was under the impression that all it took was dropping dope lyrics.

        • Cracker Skull

“just because someone can rhyme”, that’s all it takes in case you didnt know, to be a true lyricist. that’s it. Joey Bada$$ has been stellar since 1999 on forward, solid rhymes, nice beats, what he could use improvement on is his flow. but other than that, he’s on track to becoming one of the great MC’s of our time

    • Thoulemue

Agreed, couldnt have said it better.

    • OGBobbyJohnson

What do you mean by the Joey Badass category? A highly talented artist who raps over dope beats and has insane lyrical ability? You the type of dude who throws on Eww by Young Thug and bumps it in the whip right?

  • P.eZ (R.I.P Ke’son)

I get a Joey Bada$$ vibe from him but son is nice he got bars

“Spring Flings: The Ep, an account based & themed around my everyday dealings with women in it’s own unique way. • Cracker Skull

    • shake

      • Sterling Wadsworth
      • Xc

      • Cracker Skull

      • Stian Nicolaysen

no room for more kendrick / isiah types.. image and style

    • biff tannen

What are you talking about bruh???? There’s always room for more “Kendrick Lamar types” in hip hop. Good MCs that put out dope projects are never a bad thing.

      This kid >>>>>>>>> Isiah rashad.

      • AndOneill

Naw man Isiah is dope,, cilvia demo is nice as he’ll, I prefare it to Q’s album

        • biff tannen

I thought it was mad boring and dude sounded mad generic. Had maybe 3 cool songs. Definitely better than. Qs album. That’s not saying much tho.

  • Homegrown

nice to see a dude from my hometown on 2DBZ!

  • AndOneill

Dope shake as always! Seen some great talent comin off these posts, gonna check all his shit from now on

  • JustDAREme23

I honestly mean no malice or hate by this. But what makes this kid ok is his age. In the next 2 & a half years he’ll be in the shark tank with the grown ups. & Then will this song be that good? The 1st song sounded like a Joey badass tribute & the second was substandard to say the least. Modern “hiphop heads” are so easy to impress, a sampled production + a simple A.B rhyme pattern about the struggle of something or how much another mf’er isn’t as cool as you & violá (whala); another savior is born. They boost so many simple HIP-HOP rappers so high because they know they need soldiers in their ever fledgling ranks in this constant battle vs flashy, club, 2chainz style rap. This kid sounds like every other tape dropped on live mixtapes this month. So when he started rapping, ironically that’s when he lost me

  • Jourdan Jackson

What are we looking for in hip hop?

We wanted Mc’s with a story and purpose, we have many now and now it seems the listener doesn’t want that anymore.

is it me or is hip hop trendy?

its either gangster/trap/flashy rap or backpack underground rap and we always seem to bounce back and forth on which we want at the time

the thought came up because i was and was reading the comments of this mc’s music and everyone on here was like he’s sounds like every other rapper who’s trying to give us a story.

Isn’t that what we all wanted pre Kendrick Lamar?

now we don’t want it anymore

as an artist i just make what i feel and try experimenting with all sounds. can we just enjoy the music and skip the analyzing?

    Cant please everyone

    • JT

Haters man. Hip hop has them more than anyone.

    • Kyle

We’re looking for stuff to analyze. I know I won’t stop analyzing.

  • A dude really coming up right now is Zee Will.

    • I really don’t like spamming shit but I just thought people should be introduce to this guy.

  • Thoulemue

Hi shake how are you guys going about finding these artist? If you guys post another one you guys should def post .. I’ve yet ever heard an unsigned artist with a sound like that one song.

  • Sk8y Perry

nobody can just listen to a song & enjoy it these days. seems like everybody is so quick to judge, & always looking for a reason to hate on or dislike something. quit looking for comparisons & just enjoy this shit. if you don’t like it, cool, move on.

  • JemPage

Man I’m getting tired of rappers having weird ass names. Uppercase and lowercase letters, dollar signs and numbers and weird ass punctuation. When I tell someone to check out a new artist I don’t wanna have to write it on a napkin at the bar. Just use what it says on your goddamn birth certificate.
