Wow, so nice. That whistle at the start had me hooked.

  • Ruckus

    WOW!

  • marty mcfly

Comeonnow. This song isnt bad but this dont need to be on a Roots album. People gonna give The Roots another pass just like they did on their first song off this album. If Black Thought is this and that then where them bars at? Period

    • TrueGem17

Broaden up your look at the music. it's not about dope bars and dope beats, it's about creative expression. Apparently The Roots wanted to do it this way.

      • marty mcfly

I aint gotta broaden shit fool. If I wanted to hear R&B then Id listen to it. My thing is this, when ever you hear people talking about The Roots they say how Black Thought is king shit. Now I know what people mean because obviously he can spit. My thing is when it comes to albums? At this point im not giving no passes anymore, im gonna call it how I see it. If The Roots are supposed to be this and that then when they drop music it gotta be the best music in hip hop period. Roots albums are "good" but people act as if they make the most incredible music out and thats just not the case and Im tired of people fronting. If this was a Jayz song or a Kendrick song? No passes would be given but since its the Roots its cool and that has been going on for a while now (since like Rising Down and 75 bars, cause the shit after that has not been all that). This album need to be the best music out and the best lyrical shit out or else stop with all the over hype as if Black Thought is king lyrical miracle if thats not what he puts out.

        • marty mcfly

I think Common's Nobody Is Smiling is probably gonna be the best shit this year and the thing with Common is people give him no passes. If he aint saying the most dopest shit when he raps? People gonna be like NOPE... So if thats the case for him and others at his level then hold Black Thought to the same standard.

        • Guest

You're an idiot, if you dint expect this type of music from the roots then you don't know the roots.

          • marty mcfly

No bitch. 99.9% of the Roots music is bars and beats so I should expect bars from the Roots.

      • Justin Blantey

This is hiphop. If you don't express yourself through dope bars and beats, this aint hiphop!

Still like the song, but def needs Black Thought

        • http://crvck.com ONMY88SHiT

The Roots have never limited themselves to strictly hip-hop..

And if you need dope bars then a lot of shit nowadays doesn't qualify as hip-hop even though it's regarded as such.

Music is subjective, you don't decide what is hip-hop and what is not..

          • marty mcfly

At what point in the Roots whole career was bars not expected? What Roots fan really expected this? Really? I have every Roots album and have been a day one fan and I expected bars, im sorry.

          • http://crvck.com ONMY88SHiT

If you were such a huge fan you would know they occasionally have an instrumental track or one without any rapping on some of their albums. A real fan would know what to expect from The Roots and not try to discredit and find flaws in anything they put out.

This is another conceptual album like Undun so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to critique this one song without knowing the context. I wish they wouldn't release any songs before the full album came out but I guess that's not how it works nowadays.

          • marty mcfly

This is not an instrumental track fool.

          • http://crvck.com ONMY88SHiT

"an instrumental track or one without any rapping"

Reading is fundamental. Not gonna bother with this clown anymore though. The Roots don't owe you shit, go listen to Jay-Z some more if no one else's music pleases you.

          • marty mcfly

How many tracks do the Roots have with Thought rapping? About 99% of their music correct? So me wanting to hear some raps isnt really some far out there idea now is it. No the Roots dont owe me shit personally and too bad Roots fans like you dont expect anything from them either. You'll take meh material from them and pretend its greatness.

          • http://crvck.com ONMY88SHiT

I'm not blind fanboy like you with Jigga. The Roots have some great albums in their catalog as well as pretty average albums but I'm not gonna judge a single track before hearing the full thing, especially with a conceptual album like this.

          • marty mcfly

Whatever. Thats alot of you fools position, You wanna throw in "conceptual" as if thats gonna help your argument about whether The Roots make some shit thats meh or just ok or is their shit really as incredible as people say their shit is?

          • http://crvck.com ONMY88SHiT

I'm not even referring to the quality but rather your statement that any song by The Roots has to have "bars".

And I already told you I don't think everything they put out is brilliant but I'm not gonna judge a new album before the album actually comes out.

Stop trying to make the same point over and over. Or even better I'm just not gonna bother replying anymore, I should've thought of that a couple comments ago.

    • Guest

Again with this shit on another Roots post. If you don't like it then don't listen stop complaining like a little bitch. We don't care about your opinion on what should be what or what should be on what.

    • datbul

He has a point. Although I agree with marty's dissenters that artist's should be free to express themselves however they choose, there are certain artists (Black Thought/The Roots amongst them) that fans don't criticize nearly as harshly. There are certain artists that get some sort of 'artistic' pass, even (especially?) when the music they put out is less than. I wasn't feeling the first single they put out. This one I have no opinion on one way or another.

  • Black Crime Rate

    This some bullshit.

  • marty mcfly

The last song the Roots did from this album sounded like a lullaby you put babies to sleep with and people wanted to act like it was fire even though you know damn well it was not. Stop setting the bar so low for these guys if you consider them to be so great.

    • Sticky

The roots don't have to prove shit, if black thought doesn't have to be on every track. Stop being butt hurt over jay-z on every post, MCHG was a disappointment. Accept it.

      • marty mcfly

Yeah thats my point. Black Thought dont have to prove shit. People say he's top 5 and all that but musically he doesn't have to make top 5 material because you people are gonna give him a pass anyway. MCHG was fire, you just too stupid to realize. The Roots can put out shit thats ok or just some cool shit and people a be like oh shit this is the greatest since shit Illmatic... FOH

        • LIV3

what the fuck made MCHG so fire..your just giving jay-z a pass like everyone else. if your such a stickler for lyricism than you need to re think your review of MCHG. jay didnt say one thing on MCHG that would make someone go "oh shit, hold up, i gotta rewind that" dont get me wrong it was a damn good album for someone that deep in the game but that shit was blown way out of proportion. and you act like this type is shit is surprising from the roots. and i dont know who your top 5 is but if jay is in it based on your criteria, you need to re think that shit too because jay definitely hasn't brought that fire on a consistent basis. on the flip side black thought always brings his A game on every song he's on so to judge the album and the group off of a song that doesn't even include Thought would make no sense

          • marty mcfly

            What made MCHG fire?

            Holy Grail = DOPE
            Picasso Baby = DOPE
            Fuckwitmeyouknow... DOPE
            Oceans = DOPE
            FUTW = DOPE
            Crown = DOPE
            Heaven = DOPE
            Part 2 = DOPE
            Somewhereinamerica... DOPE
            Open Letter = DOPE
            BBC = DOPE
            JAYZ Blue = DOPE
            Nickles and Dimes = DOPE

THATS what made it Fire. You yourself said its a damn good album so maybe you should listen to your own opinion. If is damn good by your own standard then it wasn't pass given, it just earned the right to be called fire. Yeah this shit is surprising on a Roots album, dont you have other Roots albums? Outta there whole career how many R&B songs have they done? Ok then. You say Thought brings his A game on every song? Does this song count too?

          • LIV3

so your really just gonna list each song and write dope next to it and thats suppose to verify your statement? excuse me but in your words "FOH" that still doesnt tell me specifically what made it dope. i wanna know what was so dope about each song that helped it cumulatively garner your praise and i never said it wasnt dope but it wasnt great it was way over hyped i was basically saying it was pretty good for a guy that is as, for lack of a better word, "old" as jay-z. its like me watching Michael Jordan lose to LeBron 60 to 80 im gonna be like "hey, he can still do a little something" but im not gonna give him as pass because he's michael jordan. if you cant deliver the best when your suppose to be the best then gracefully decline and step back. so what the fuck did jay-z say or do on this album to make u get so wet over it i really dont understand

in comparison to the blueprint's, american gangster and the black album, hell, even any album before american gangster.

since you wanna say that artist who are hailed as top five should be "delivering the best music in hip hop period" than your definitely giving jay a pass because MCGH or jay-z period was definitely not making the best music in hip hop at the time

          • TrueGem17
          • marty mcfly

Jayz has delivered better music then Black Thought period.

          • LIV3

i wouldn't say all that, Jay's music is just more accessible than Black Thought or the roots i should say and when people create these top five lists that include black thought in it, their more than likely talking about lyricism which he is more than deserving of. now when it comes to top five most influential in hip hop then yea Jay is definitely on that list and i love the roots but i would never put them in that top five but their definitely in the top say 15 as far as the culture is concerned and all this truly is a matter of opinion because to say Jay delivered better music than black thought should be labeled as merely an opinion lacking much credibility because the roots have delivered more universally acclaimed albums than Jay. im sure you know that sales dont mean shit when determining good music because we got trash ass niggas like YG debuting at #2 and it dont matter how much records that nigga sells he's still gonna be wack. but like i said it all a matter of personal opinion which 9 times out of ten doesn't mesh well with others

          • marty mcfly

JayZ music is not more accessible then Black Thoughts. Many of the same people who listen to Jayz are very familiar with Roots and Thought is not kicking no super lyrical shit thats above peoples heads either. When it comes to lyricism? Jay Z has proven to anybody with common sense that thats a quality he delivers on a consistent basis. You yourself say you wouldn't put The Roots in your top 5 so you should know what im saying then and if you still dont then go read what @datbul said cause that again is what im saying. People give The Roots a pass when their music is not as incredible as the hypebeast say it is. When JayZ makes something people dont like? No passes are given (Not even from myself cause I hate that La Familia song but overall Jay delivers). You say my opinion that Jayz makes better music the Black Thought is lacking credibility? Id say based on beats, rhymes, concepts, singles, albums and overall musicality? There is overwhelming evidence that Jay has made better music then the Roots.

          • marty mcfly

Empire State for one, what Roots song is fucking with that?

          • marty mcfly

            Holy Grail
            Oceans
            DOA
            Pray
            No Church
            Murder To Excellence

etc etc.... The Roots are a great band but musically? They not fucking with Jayz period. Lyrically? Jay can do whatever Thought can do with a pen so its whatever? Jay is good there too.

          • LIV3

            holy grail ft. "JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE"
            Oceans ft "FRANK OCEAN"
            DOA was dope
            pray was whatever
            No Church ft "Frank Ocean"
Murder to excellence was one of my favrorties

im not saying Jay is trash but like you said if someone is gonna be claiming king and hailed as the best then they need to be putting out the best music every single time they drop something

and not once did i say the roots were the best anything

          • marty mcfly

Naming the features does not take anything away from Jayz it just further points out how good the songs were. Yeah you didnt say the Roots were the best anything because their not the best anything, their a good band but they not fucking with Jayz at all period end of fucking story.

          • LIV3

no but it helps boost the allure of the song you think females and kids outside the hip hop community would really go and download the song if it was just jay-z FOH justin timberlake sold that song..the undeniable buzz of frank ocean at the time sold that song..alicia keys booming vocals sold that song

          • marty mcfly

Ok well if Jays music is alluring to females and kids? I say thats a good thing. There are many kids and females that are not outside of the hip hop culture. So again, Jay doing songs with these people is not a knock against Jayz. What it does say is these songs must be damn good songs, Which Holy Grail, Grammy award winning No Church, Empire State were. They were not just built off singing. Jay made incredible verses on dope beats and Jay is popular himself so when he drops and album its safe to say people are also listen for what he has to say as well.

          • LIV3

like i said jay-z's lyrics didnt sell those songs. you really think the hip hop community has enought power to help jay-z win those awards fuck no it was the addition of those features that reached out to the more powerful demographics that sold those songs you really think people outside the hip hop community listened to the song for jay z? get the fuck out of here bro they were just waiting for justin or beyonces voice they dont give a fuck about what jay is saying

          • marty mcfly

Yeah I think people listen to Jayz for the lyrics. You keep talking about the people outside of the hip hop culture? Well thats almost the whole Roots fanbase cause the streets been thought these niggas was washed up. White soccer moms been keeping the Roots alive for the last ten years and the reason behind their acclaim fukboy.

          • LIV3

im done with you feel free to keep typing your responses kuz i aint coming back to check i think jay-z's dick in your mouth is preventing you from receiving oxygen to your brain to think properly

          • marty mcfly

I think The Roots running a train on your asshole is preventing you from seeing these niggas aint dropping no fire out here in these streets. They shit is lukewarm and only important cause Jimmy Fallon gives them a platform.

          • LIV3

um can we give a big round of applause to Alicia Keys

          • marty mcfly

Yes we can give a round of applause to Alicia, why not.

          • LIV3

so your seriously telling me that people are just as famailiar with the roots as they are with Jay-z. maybe now since their on the tonight show but come one man to say their just as accessible and familiar as Jay-Z (pre tonight show) is stupid...you act like Jay has been on some next level shit. he just hops on the current trends in hip hop. you cant blame the roots for sticking to their guns and that doesnt discredit their musical talent because like i said they have delivered more universally acclaimed albums than Jay..recently beat wise Jay hasnt delivered nothing as next level as you imply..rhymes hmm and i quote

"Cake, cake cake cake cake cake500 million, I got a pound cake
Niggas is frontin', that's upside-down cake
Get 'em a red nose, they clown cakes
They shoulda' never let you 'round cake
Look at my neck, I got a carrot cake"

damn yup those are some consistent A1 bars right there..singles like i said jay goes with the current trend and throws the most popular rappers and singers at the time on it of course its gonna be a fucking hit with people like justin timberlake and beyonce at your disposal..the roots don't go out and use those type of tactics as a crutch like Jay has recently...

          • marty mcfly

Yes people are VERY familiar with the Roots, just like they are with Jayz, yes thats what im telling you. Yes the tonight show has something to do with it. People watch the Roots 5 days a week every night and most of them have heard the Roots music at some point in the last 2 decades. Jay has clearly delivered next level material cause he dont hop on trends, he's the one setting them. The Roots stick to their guns and so does Jayz expect his music sounds better. You talk about Jayz bars? Ok well yeah id say they are A 1. You can pick out bars hear and there you dont like but id say the first first on Oceans was conceptually more dope then EVERY SINGLE VERSE THOUGH WROTE ON UNDUN PERIOD.

          • LIV3

jay doesnt hop on trends? are u fucking kidding me. wake the fuck up bro..really he set the trap trend? and the dubstep trend? and edm trends in hip hop? come on bro he aint been setting shit and you must be smoking some good shit to make a ridiculous statement like that..you just discredited yourself with that shit.

          • marty mcfly

The trap trend was set by trap beats and at the time American Gangster was out so where were the trap beats on that album? He did get on the EDM trend but is that smart or stupid? and that was on an album with Kanye West and Ye made those EDM sounding tracks but the first singles was a dirty underground hardcore sample for Otis so whats EDM about that? You aint gotta believe Jay is setting the trend. Jay has been called one of the most influential and trendsetting hip hop artists of all time. Ever since he was talking about button up shirts and cystal so you aint gotta take it from me, the proof is there already that Jay does set the trend and even if he does jump on a trend? Imo that would be smart as long as the music sounds dope which Jays music does

          • LIV3

first you defend jay about following trends like its a bad thing now your saying it was smart of him ? make up your fucking mind..who the fuck ever said jay was one of the most trendsetting in hip hop can you please show me influential yes but trendsetting if anything its the producers who give him the beats and i never said everything he does is EDM..if anything Kanye is like japeto to Jay-Z

          • marty mcfly

Whats more smart dumb shit? To be trending cause people pay attention to your music or to not be trending cause when you drop singles nobody really gives a fuck? You wanna talk about trendsetting and influence in hip hop? Ok lets compare between Jayz and Black Thought? LOL

          • marty mcfly

No, its not about sales but if you gonna say the Roots have acclaimed albums well then id say well people actually go out and buy Jayz albums so that shows some kinda appreciation of the music passed just acclaim which Jay has plenty of as well.

          • LIV3

people go out and buy YG's album so what u saying bro lmao does that make YG better than the roots, hell no

          • marty mcfly

Well YG isnt JayZ now is he. Id say the people familiar with both Jayz and The Roots would probably buy jayz album before The Roots because a Roots album is gonna be good but they look at the potential of a Jay album being great.

          • LIV3

exactlyJay-Z sells more off of his name than his musical output these days even though his musical output is most likely gonna be something thats trending, you might as well put a fucking has tag by every song he's not doing nothing special or innovative and YG is still selling and people are going out and buying his shit just like Jay-Z so does that make YG just as good because he has people buying his shit, Fuck no..and and the only potential a Jay-Z album has these days is a grip of big name features and producers with the same trendy ass shit as everyone else the only thing that really distinguishes him from the rest of the bullshit is his fucking name

          • marty mcfly

Jays sells cause people want the music cause they enjoy his music more so then any other factor involved in the purchase of a Jayz album. If you say his music is trending then thats an added positive for his music. Its better then music coming out that nobody gives a shit about and nobody calls in a request to hear again. You saying people are going out buying Jayz music is not a negative fool. You choose to make some kinda comparison between Jay and YG? Most people would say thats just a ridiculous comparison. Most people still dont know what their about to hear when the get a YG album. When it comes to Jayz? They have a pretty good idea and since American Gangster, BP3, WTT and MCHG it aint just his name carrying his music, its also the fact people like the damn music. You keep saying Jayz is trending? Well nothing Black thought does is trending, especially his music and he's on Tv every night and thats added Roots promotion so is the fact Jayz music is trending and getting bought a negative in comparison to that not being the case? NO

          • LIV3

the only reason jays shit is trending because he has some big name feature on it and you act like your always up for a big surprise when it come to a jay-z album and your completely miss-informed when it comes to radio..nobody calls in and request songs no more the label pays the radio station a certain amount of money for spins so of course jay-z's shit would get played so much its like apple putting out commercial that shit is gonna get played all the time. and people know exactly what to expect from a YG album because its so one dimensional which a whole lot of mustard and non sense which is exactly what it was lmao im not gonna refer to anything before american gangster because i obviously said those albums were dope so to name them like im against them was stupid on your part but watch the throne sold because of the two names associated with it and mcgh sold because of those commercials and the 1 million free download campaign and why do u keep saying black thought like he's the whole group lol did he fuck your mom or something bro he got you feeling some type of way lmao jay-z only trends because of his name and his money these days and now that the roots have the tonight show at their disposal they probably doing the same thing but before their albums still garnered critical acclaim

          • marty mcfly

The reason Jay is trending is cause he has a big fanbase that like his music. Jayz aint gotta pay the radio shit, they gonna play some new Jayz regardless of anything. Jay aint gotta pay shit or make no calls and no label gotta pay for plays with Jays music period and yes people still so request songs. You can keep comparing YG to Jayz if you want but YG aint fucking with Jayz music just like The Roots aint. I mentioned American Gangster cause you said Jay started trap beats. Well trap beats was on fire in 2007 and thats when Jay made American Gangster so where are the trap beats bitch? You keep talking about sales? Well lets talk about how The Roots albums sell and yes Black Thought is the whole group cause nobody gives a shit about the other members. Questlove sells zero beats a year cause nobody wants them shits. The Roots dont trend because their shit is not fire and nobody wants that bullshit they release. Its good but thats about it. period. There is NOTHING great about the Roots expect for the verses from Black Thought in which if is left out nobody would give a fuck at all.

          • LIV3

damn bruh you just gonna piggie back on my mom comment with your own "fucked my mother" comment nice comeback lmao and i never said jay started trap beats if your stupid ass could read properly you would have seen i said "really jay started trap beats?" it was a question not a statement you fucking cunt..and in what fucking world were trap beats on fire in 2007 lmao kuz trap beats didnt start poppin till around 2010 when bmf and hard in the paint and H.A.M came out and the first real in demand trap producer was lex luger who didnt have his break through till hey would you look at that 2010 u fucking idiot man bitch. you call yourself a roots fan but when someone challenges your daddy its suddenly "the roots aint this" and the roots aint that then why the fuck you got most of their albums?...damn is jay-z paying your rent or something its ok bro you can take a break from the sack and breath im sure he wont get mad...

          • marty mcfly

Ok so fuck your mother then bitch, hows that. You still talking about trap beats? Ok in 2010, Jay was on his BP3 shit so where were the fucking trap beats? Run This Town, DOA, On To The Next, Empire State?.... Yeah im a Roots fan. Im enough of a fan to keep it real enough to say The Roots been putting out alot of mediocre trash for years now and im tired of it.

          • huh

actually BP3 came out in 2009, WTT began its recording process in november of 2010 which was about three months after BMF and HARD IN THE PAINT came out which both, mainly BMF, took trap music to another level by introducing Lex to the world on a higher scale...like you said it didnt become trendy until 2010 which like i said was around the same time WTT was being recorded which included H.A.M (TRAP) and NIGGAS IN PARIS (DUBSTEP) so it sure doesnt seem like jay-z was setting any trends to me only following them

          • marty mcfly

If you wanna be technical? Trap beats started poppin in the fuckin early 2000s bitch. By 2010 it became trendy but by then the hood had been making trap shit for almost a decade. Bitch

          • marty mcfly

Your mother must have fucked Black Thought cause you sound mad about it.

      • marty mcfly

Every other artist thats supposed to be great? If they dont put out greatness then they catch hellfire for it. The Roots? They just get the benefit of the doubt every time based on people knowing Thought has skills so therefore its not necessary to use them just as long as it sounds meh then its ok.

  • who cares

I'll be honest, this is a little disappointing after hearing "When the People Cheer." It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it just never feels like a Roots joint unless Black Thought kicks a verse. Still, I'll wait to hear this within the context of the album. For all we know this could be a great segue into "Nothing."

  • Key

You Daft Punk program sync junkies forget The Roots are a band...expression begins with live instruments and improv, transitions etc name hip hop's other dope band??? You can't , just listen....

  • Justin Blantey

The ending was hot. But WHERE THE FUCK is Black Thought on this? He could have ripped this raw beat.

  • UpInYourFaceTypeOfNigga

aaaah fuck what that sample man chance got it on juice too

  • biff tannen

    Blackthought >>>>>>> Jay z.

    Get mad stanleys.

Songs cool. It'll be interesting to see how it fits within the album.

    • PV

why did you feel the need to write that? Just to start an argument? c'mon son

      • biff tannen

Yes and also because it's true.

        • marty mcfly

Well absolutely nothing about The Roots career or musical ability reflects that they've done anything better then Jayz. Fact is if Jay came with this shit fools would be like GTFOH but since its the Roots they get a pass. Jay puts up hit after hit after hit. The Roots make good music but nothing really incredible and fools say he better then Jayz. Just stop the bullshit. Pharaohe Monch, Talib, Common, Lupe, Kanye, Ghost etc... put out consistently better shit and they get blasted for the material thats not that great. Black Thought puts out some mediocre shit and fools act like he's the rap Jesus of Hip Hop. NO

          • marty mcfly

Im not saying the Roots is trash. Im saying if Black Thought is what people say he is, its time to put out the best music in the game period. If Black Thought is better then everybody else like fools imply is he then where is the music that reflects that? Certainly not this cotton candy disney land theme music here.

          • marty mcfly

I need something way better then Undun and I dont give a shit that it was a concept album. Where the fucking bangers at? Period

          • biff tannen

What mediocre shit has blackthought put out? Lol

Jay z has been the poster boy for mediocrity since the black album lol

            Undun>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> mchg

          • marty mcfly

Again, REALITY does not reflect that or even show anywhere near what your saying being the truth.

          • biff tannen

Your perception of reality is skewed by your extreme stanlyness. Therefore, your opinion is invalid.

          • marty mcfly

Tell that to the 100 million people who have supported Jayz career and the few thousand that do the Roots music. I dont want people to get it twisted, I like the Roots but if people gonna talk like Thought is greater then Jayz? Then its time for his music to reflect that. They both been rapping for the same amount of time and that Roots deliver they same mediocre music year after year and ya'll act like its the greatest hip hop ever. Stop fronting

          • marty mcfly

Undun is a good album but overall it was just that "good". Nothing about it is great aside from maybe Lighthouse but other then that it was basic and predictable.

          • biff tannen

I refer you back to my previous comment

          • marty mcfly

Black Thought makes music for vegans wearing sandals at the cafe on poetry night.

          • biff tannen

That sounds an awful lot like what Jay does these days. I bet he loves the roots lol

          • LIV3

im sorry i dont remember hearing black thought on this song plus like i said black thought doesnt make up the whole crew for all we know this could have been ?uest loves decision but anything black thought has spit has been dope so to say he hasnt shown or proved himself as a musical talent FOH

          • marty mcfly

Black Thought does make the crew. I dare The Root to take Black thoughts vocal off for a whole album and see if they shit works.

          • LIV3

you act like this is the fucking single or something and you act like every song on jays albums are fire these hits your referring to are 9 time out of ten the singles but the rest of the songs on the album arent always as great. and im pretty sure the roots choose not to follow all the trendy shit in hip hop, not because they cant or their less "musically creative" as Jay you would have to be a fucking idiot to think Jay is more musically talented than the Roots collectively. you act like this song is complete shit and that were giving them a pass for putting out a shitty song black thought doesnt make up the whole fucking team its a collective of other creative opinions and directions

          • marty mcfly

Jayz talent is proven with or without a trendy sound fool. Jay dont make beats so no he is not like the Roots but musically his finished products are better. The Roots aint trendy cause nobody gives enough of a fuck so they become trendy.

          • LIV3

but if black thought hopped on the same exact beat as Jay it would be 10 times better than any shit jay can write

          • marty mcfly

NO, Black Thought aint making no raps ten times better then what Jayz writes. The last verse I heard from Jay was on We Made It and that verse just destroys Black Thoughts trash on When The People Cheer.

  • sam30317

I kept expecting a key/chord change and it didnt happen until the end >__> Seriously wish they did it during the chorus or more often in the song

  • Dango

This is dope but I wanted Black Thought BARS.

  • http://www.praverb.net/ Praverb

Last time I checked The Roots are a group. Black Thought is a part of the group. This song showcased the instrumentation of Questlove and Kamal Gray as well as the crooning ability of Raheem DeVaughn. From a creative standpoint I love it. Now of course purists will be upset because Black Thought is not rhyming on the track.

    • LIV3

man, finally someone understands what this song was meant to do. very well said. the Roots are a fucking GROUP there not callled Black Thought and the Roots but people cant help but insist on trying to distinguish them and separate entities

      • http://www.praverb.net/ Praverb

Bingo...but you know the emcee usually cancels out the other creatives.

    • biff tannen

Finally! Someone that gets it. The Roots are a band. It's not blackthought and the roots.

i like Black Thought as much as the next head, but this song is amazing with or without him.

  • NoWuff

    This shit is mad spiritual!

Meh. I'm sure in the storyline of the album (they said it's a concept album, right?) this fits in well and makes perfect sense, but as a standalone track, I found it boring.
