I LOVE hyphy (hence my username and pic on here) but I don't think Mustard stole the "Bay sound" in the way that he's accused. He's said in the past that he spun E-40, Mac Dre, and Keak Da Sneak back when he was a party DJ. Obviously, that music influenced him. But I do not think that he stole his current style from Sage, IamSu!, or the HBG guys. I think they just have the same influences from the early-to-mid 2000s Bay.

Co-sign. I was gettin hyphy back when it was poppin. Similarities yes, but the bay sound is more wild and everywhere. La sound more snap and minimal. Very "less is more" style in la versus the bay.

I Havnt heard YG's album but I highly doubt if I heard it I would instantly think doggy style or any classic or mediocre west coast album

    • Doc Ock

you weren't lying, you definitely have not listened to YG's album.

      • maus

I have and am from the city right next to "big bad" Compton. His CD is okay but it's a lil' too cartoony to be considered a classic.

        • Doc Ock

but it has the feeling of those classic west coast albums. the shit feels like a hot summer day in a drop top as soon as the first track hits.

    • Troy Terry

it's good but iono bout classic especially since the GKMC influence is very apparent.

Does YG not understand the business of mainstream music and radios? Of course they're playing their music and NOT asking them questions that would cause a confrontation; it's BUSINESS.

As far as Fabby making those allegations, that's his opinion which others will agree and disagree with. Tensions between regions will always exist and north versus south will never go away, it's just human nature to be territorial like that.

Now, with that said, both YG/Mustard and Fab could have all handled it accordingly (one ignore the other and eventually the matter would have been dropped thus avoiding all this unnecessary drama).

Seems like now Fab started and ended the matter.

Mustard is a diverse producer but he has songs that are if you hadn't heard them you would think are bay songs. Rack City is what blew him up and every body thought it was a Bay beat. Not the E-40, Mac Dre, Keak Sneak that was the most popular of the hyphy movement, it was all reminiscent of the underground stuff that was really hot in the streets, that us in the Bay know caught on in the LA. Mustard denies that those influenced his sound. The D-Lo's , The Team, The A's, The Pack, and later on but especially the early IamSu, Loverance, Kool John and that 2nd New Bay movement. That is where the minimalist beats came from. google 'swaggin all day' came out in like 2011. You should be able to trace lineage of all beats, and some of his shit is straight Bay shit and he blows up and lies about it.

Perfect example of the Bay influence, post hyphy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWuADM4VToU

CALI if one of the biggest states, its all territorial from Nor Cal to So Cal. Yea LA mite have gangs and shit, but in the BAY niggaz dont care about that shit for real for real, niggaz poppin each other left and right, even if they live right across the street from each other, we been doing our own thang musically for years now especially creating our own movements. Once Love Rance & Su dropped "UP" (thats when you start seeing YG sound change) If you don't believe me do your research, YG was on that jerkin movement for a minute before he went to jail and came out. The beef shit is stupid though because we all influence each other one way or another, EAST, WEST, NORTH, and SOUTH, but Mustard just needs to come out and state what it is, everybody in the Bay aint eatin and thats the problem. I think Mistah Fab thought once he got more mainstream Mustard would put more light on the Bay cuz he been making millions off our sound, but since he aint shining know light to niggaz who been doing it out here besides E-40 like some of the OG's who been producing out here like Traxamillion. The bay is just tired of taking losses from the mainstream artists who come and eat of our swag and sound.

Mustard didn't steal the sound but he was influenced on most of his production before 2013 he sounded like Young L, Nic Nac or P-Lo now he's added a lil more LA/ATL flavor to his mix but if he tries to say the 06-08 bay sound didn't inspire him he lyin.
