Still jamming to J.Period’s James Brown tribute mix like we are? Well make room as J.Period has another 2dope project on the horizon! In celebration of the 2Pac-inspired musical Holler If Ya Hear Me opening up at The Palace Theater tonight in New York City, the Brooklyn-based DJ has announced his new project, Holler If Ya Hear Me: Remixed. The latest in his award-winning music-meets-narrative series; which will re-interpret the play’s soundtrack by remixing Pac vocals in new musical contexts and exploring his legacy as a poet, emcee and activist.

“Pac holds such a sacred place in hip hop’s collective imagination and inspires such passion among his fans, so it’s easy to forget that at the core of his appeal was a powerful artistic voice. What I’m most excited about with this project is the opportunity to put his words in new contexts to help illuminate the meaning his lyrics, and the ideas he stood for. My hope is that it reveals a side of Pac that most have never seen.” – J.Period

Holler If Ya Hear Me: Remixed will be released on June 24th. Until then, take a listen to the project’s first leak, a special rendition of “Dear Mama.”

UPDATE: Due to sample clearance issues, the project has been delayed. Official statement below:
