BLACK THOUGHT!!!! That is all, Absaloutly slapped the shit out this. Fire!!!

  • soulprint

    Black Thought… geez

he’s top 5 dead or alive

  • Sirilly

ILL! I love me a good little barfest.

  • LIV3

black though is just too good! top 5

  • WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! WHAT A LINE UP.

  • New millennium Nat turner

Black thought stop. We get it. You have nothing left to prove. You are amazing.

    • marty mcfly

If only he rapped that good on the last Roots album.

      • SMH I knew your salty ass would be here.

You don’t like him, we get it.

        • marty mcfly

Whats salty about it? Is it not true that almost anything Thought is on outside of the Roots, he raps ALOT better? Did he not just body every single verse on the last Roots album? True or False?

          • You want to discredit what he did here by bringing up an album he didn’t even come wack on, he just didn’t rap on it a lot. That’s what’s salty about it.

          • marty mcfly

Im not discrediting him at all. I said he rapped here better then he did on the whole last Roots album, not to discredit but because its the truth. You say he didnt come wack? Well im not saying he’s Chief Keef nigga

          • ATK

He did? Have you heard the last album? There were multiple songs where he got way deeper and displayed a lot more lyrical talent, including wordplay, content, flow etc than on this song…

          • marty mcfly

He destroyed this verse here with the verse he did on Bird’s Eye View last year and almost every verse he spit on The Money Making Jam Boys tape is better then anything on the last Roots album.

          • Willmatic

You are right. The last Roots album was whack. Black Thought hasn’t gone in on a Roots album since Things Fall Apart.

          • Nuance

Y’all gotta shut up. Go play back How I Got Over and Rising Down he fucking murdered those tapes. If you’re not down with listening to concept rhyming don’t listen to fucking the concept albums (Undun & …And Then You Shoot Your Cousin) dumbies.

          • Exhibit C

He’s gone in on literally every Roots album up to and including Undun.
There’s not many MCs doper than Black Thought. And when I say dope I
mean he has the most bars that make me think ‘how the fuck did he think
of that shit? I have to play it again.’ I purposely extended my drive
home today even with these insane gas prices so I could replay Black
Thought’s verse in this song a couple more times. Not many rappers have
            that effect.

          • marty mcfly

How the fuck did he think of what? What bars exactly made you think that? I will say Undun had dope verses (probably the best verses he’s had in almost a decade) but almost every verse he’s done outside of the Roots are WAY!!! better then what he does on a Roots album. This verse alone destroys the whole last Roots album and he aint even trying on this verse. Its just a long verse but he sounds like he just chillin on the verse and not even trippin on what he’s saying. He started out with some random shit about how much his shirts costs and still ended up slaughtering the whole Roots album. I get people saying he’s dope but ok, then dont only drop one verse a year that sounds like this but make whole albums that are no where in the same league as his guest verses.

          • Exhibit C

Well pretty much the whole ‘st. laurents, father tosh, maharaja, entourage, lebron n bosh, baklavas’ lines got me pretty amped. Same with the ‘no type of moral compass, go right the fuck up in your mouth like i’m the orthodontist.’ Since you wanted examples. And the Roots albums have all been great up until &tysyc and that wasn’t really in the same lane any way so whatever.

          • marty mcfly

See you and other keep going back to saying the Roots albums are dope… Ok well I didnt say there not. Thats not what my comments are saying.

          • Exhibit C

I actually totally understand what you’re saying and what you’ve been saying for the past several weeks. But the fact is, whether or not Black Thought is top 5 comes down to your judging criteria. I think skill wise, he’s up there, artistically, he’s up there, diversity (because every roots album sounds totally different and has different themes) he’s up there. The only thing is he doesn’t carry many songs or any albums by himself so it’s hard to say. I’m just telling you, if every rapper in the world in their prime released a solo track at the same day… Black Thought is gonna be one of the first 5 I listen to.

          • marty mcfly

My comments are not about what other rate him on a scale from 1 to 10 either. Its cool man, I get it, you think Thought is dope but again, I never said he’s not.

          • marty mcfly

Oh yeah, and about the rhymes (that make you scratch your head or whatever), I would agree those bars are dope but thats what I mean by a “battle rap”. I mean bars that really have no isolated point but is just wordplay.

          • Exhibit C

Lol scratching my head… and yes those bars are definitely interchangeable. But you said the majority of his bars or battle rap bars and that statement is untrue.

          • marty mcfly

Idk about that man but its cool. We can let it go but people look at these kinda comments of mine as if its based in hate or something? NO, I have no reason to hate Thought or anybody for that matter but if say something along the lines of, You know Ghostface has alot of rhymes on Supreme Clientele that really dont mean anything… Thats not coming from a place of hate but it is what it is.

          • Exhibit C

Fair enough but I just feel like a lot of the time you try to break everything down like there’s an exact science to it, and there is a science to it to some extent and there are skills and and everything. But it’s also an art form so a big part of being a great MC, for me at least, is your ability to evoke a feeling, whatever that feeling is. Not everything has to make sense, a lot of great artists and works of art didn’t ‘make sense’. But yeah, it’s probably time to let it go. It’s been real.

          • marty mcfly

Thats probably the best response on this page. I can agree with your points there.

          • LIV3

oh yea “knew i would blow like a meth lab” FUCK those are bars right there..fuck out of here that shit was lame YG could have came up with that line kuz its so damn simple

          • marty mcfly

Well you let me know when YG starts rapping as good as Jay Z. Smh

          • Nuance

Black Thought can rap circles around your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper man. His substance is totally different on Roots albums because they are fucking concept albums lately and he can’t talk his shit the same way on those. Wake up! Not every hip-hop album has to be conceited bullshit man. Keep his name out of your mouth if you’re not about the ART of it.

          • marty mcfly

I didnt say Im not about the art but if we gonna talk art? Are not MANY of the concept verses Thought has wrote interchangeable with the other verses on the same project?

      • jordan

shut ur troll ass up. u hate on everybody. you need life support coz nigga u clearly need some help with ur low life

  • DBS

Jesus, Black Thought straight spazzed, he sounds hungry.

  • Guest

how’d i know this bitch nigga was gonna come and say some shit

  • LIV3

this shit is better than anything Jay-Z has spit this whole year imo

    • marty mcfly

Jay got him on flow, wordplay (entendres and punches) and context though with is verses on We Made It, and the Jungle remix. Thought rhymed for a longer period on time but Jay still got some intricate shit going on in his verses that you may have missed. Black Thought’s verse come like they off a assembly line and that fit on any song cause there’s no context to them. I highly respect Thought as a lyricist but im just saying.

      • Guest

        im just sayin

        • marty mcfly

          LOL

        • marty mcfly

Get ready for the Black Thought military to come defend his honor though.

        • Fuck All Y’all

LMFAOOOOOOOO .. This is genuinely funny af.

      • Guest

        im just saying

        • marty mcfly

Whenever people cant say anything back against the point made… they always come with some fag shit as a defense. Its like fools turn gay when they cant think of anything to say but I forgive you. #Homotrolls

      • LIV3

nothing jay says goes over my head believe me i catch everything that nigga says and its nothing really dope to me granted he has had some dope bars sprinkled in here and there but thats about it his flow is nothing special either imo i mean its nothing any other nigga like drake or kendrick couldnt do and i dont even like those niggas. i respect jay as a lyricist as well but im just saying

        • LIV3

look i like and respect Jay, just not as much as Black Thought and vice versa for you. and nothing you say will ever make me like or respect jay more than Black Thought and im sure theres nothing i could say to make u respect or like Black Thought more than Jay. so lets just agree to disagree

          • marty mcfly

Ok well nothing Jay says goes over your head (as if Black Thought does…) and you say nothing is really dope about his bars and his flow is nothing special (as if Jay hasn’t used five times more flows then the repetitive flow Thought uses on almost every song) and you say Kendrick and Drake can do what Jayz has done? Good luck with that… but at the end of the day you respect Jay as a lyricist. Thats the same reason Thought says in this song, “who’s in your top 5….. JAY” and then etc… himself. I didn’t comment to make you like Jay Z more the Black Thought anyway.

          • LIV3

you didnt comment to make me like jay? then why did you comment? oh just to defend jay right? kuz thats all im reading is “jay did five times this” and “jay z is more that” nigga i get it he’s your favorite….do you honestly have to rebuttal every comment thats says anything bad against jay? because thats what your doing right? making a rebuttal”, which basically means to counter or refute something which is what your doing here so please dont come back and say your not defending jay and please dont say “well your coming to black thoughts defense” because not once did i “RESPOND” to you saying black thought was better at something other than my initial comment that you yourself chose to comment on just to, like i said, “defend Jay” and yes i said i like and respect black thought more but thats not coming to his defense so please dont try and twist and use that either *sigh* so like i said nothing you comment or say or bring up will change my mind or make me agree with you..so therefore what is the point of you even responding to my last post..because you obviously wanna prove your point or you wouldnt have responded after i clearly said i dont care what u say so there the end i dont care and you dont care and yes feel free to say im backing out because i have nothing viable to say blah blah blah

          • marty mcfly

No I didnt comment to “make” you do anything. I cant “make” you like Jayz fool.

          • LIV3

so why the fuck did you comment then nigga my comment obviously made you feel some type of way to compel you to even make a comment was it kuz i dissed your man and you still didnt answer my question..so! why did you even comment?

          • marty mcfly

I commented because I wanted to period. NO, you didnt make me feel any type of way. You seem to be upset, I dont know why because this is simply talking about rap, its not a life or death issue so I dont know where all the emotion is coming from but I commented cause I felt like it end of story. If you dissed Jayz, I missed it or if you sent a shot at me, I missed that to. I dont know what your so mad about cause I’m chillin.

      • Walnuts

jay’s context = song with Jeezy? Cocaine talk. Song with Jay Elec? Attempt at deep thought. Song with Ross? High-end expensive taste references.

        • dwightschrute

jays context? u mean content bro? smh

          • LIV3

lol i wanted to bring that up too but i figured he’d go on a whole rant again lmao

          • marty mcfly

There was also a point made there as well. Take 90% of Black Thoughts verses and they fit anywhere on any song because Thought has no “context” most times, and its not like his content is more then Jayz because when it comes to content Jay has Thought bet by a mile.

          • marty mcfly

beat… Jay has covered more subjects and went more in depth on several albums and on several occasions. Thought been spitting battle raps as if the song lyrics for most of his career. I say that respectfully.

          • Exhibit C

This is not true at all. It’s a small minority of his verses that are battle raps. I’m just looking at the track lists on Roots albums, remembering the songs and seeing all the different themes in every song and wondering how you just made that claim.

          • marty mcfly

I made the claim cause I know those songs to and even though off memory I can see how your looking at the songs and isolating them as if they pick up on different themes but many of them address the same themes over and over again and add in a few words here and there to go with hook but really say the same things as most the other songs on the album. Now I know the difference between being critical and nit picking but im just saying.

          • BC

You probably don’t listen to enough of the catalog to determine he just spits “battle raps”. Do you honestly think that Black Thought just spits braggadocio battle raps throughout his whole career? You say this when ironically Jay Z built his whole career spitting braggadocio raps. Maybe you should point out more examples where Black Thought has no content; I’m pretty sure we can counter that with plenty of songs where he shows depth.

          • marty mcfly

Actually the only Roots album I dont have is their last one. As far as braggadocio raps? I never said he was doing any of those raps. As for battle raps? Raps without any consistent point or underlined subject matter? Yes Thought has a thousand of those all over the Roots catalog. Your talking about depth? Not once did I ever say or imply that he didnt have depth. WHAT I AM SAYING IS…. I could take MOST of the whole Roots catalog and pick ALMOST ANY verse and it fits within ALMOST any other Roots song. I could take almost the whole album of How I Got Over and Undun, and switch the verses and the songs still would come across the same way with different verses. This is because Though delivers the same perspective with different words but most of it is a play on words. Do his verse have depth? YES but are MOST of his verses is the same interchangeable shit. Can you take the verses from Jayz albums and switch verse and still make sense? NO because Oceans wont fit Picasso.

          • marty mcfly

And Black Thought also has many songs WITH consistent points and subjects as well. See what you’ll do is come back with some shit like oh you saying Thought never raps about nothing? No fool

          • BC

Your very first comment was “if only he rapped this good on the last album”. Your claim of him rapping better on features than on regular Roots records is your opinion, and that’s fine. If you’re implying that he just spits battle raps, then people will assume that BT is one dimensional. Sometimes as listeners we totally forget that emcees are different from each other, from their perspectives to their stories & life experiences. That means different emcees has different goals whenever they make records. Black Thought has always been the emcee’s emcee, the rapper’s rapper to show that he’s the best because of his skill. Jay has always been the ” I’m not a rapper” emcee, but feels he’s the greatest because of statistics (record sales, albums, etc.). When BT is featured on a song, his goal has always been to kill the feature; in fact, MANY rappers have that goal in mind. For you to say that he only rhyme well on features actually discredits his ability to spit great verses OUTSIDE of him just spitting bars for bars sake. BT has great verses where he spits immaculate and it’s not just mere battle rap. I am a fan of both BT and Jay Z; I would never come on a Jay Z post on 2DopeBoyz and say “Hov killed that Seen It All feature. If only he raps this good about world hunger, the fate of politics, and racism”. Never. You know why? I know that’s not Jay’s style nor his goal. His goal has been clear since Reasonable Doubt. I understand where you’re coming from, but your opinion is just opinion if you can’t really think of BT spitting great verses outside of his ” battle raps”.

          • marty mcfly

I didnt say or imply that he ONLY raps well on features and I didnt say ALL his raps were battle raps and thats all he can do. See people like to take a comment and twist it around to make something they want to argue against but what your saying Im saying is not what I said. You saying Jayz thinks he’s the greatest because of statistics and records sells? Thats an assumed opinion. My comments about Black Thought were not to suggest that every rap he’s ever done has been a battle rap or to suggest that he’s some Chief Keef sounding rap nigga that sounds like trash.

          • marty mcfly

And oh yeah that was my side point. My MAIN comment had to do with Thought rapping better or features then he does on Roots albums. This song being an example vs their last album, clearly thats the case.

          • LIV3

oh yea coke, art, beyonce and blue what a vast amount of subject matter that it fuck out of here with that

          • marty mcfly

Yes Jay has touched on 5x the subject matter Thought has. Yes that is true

        • marty mcfly

That wasn’t an attempt at deep thought, it clearly was a deep thought.

      • anon

What? Jay just bites flows to stay relevant. And i hate saying that about tha God MC.

        • marty mcfly

What flow did he bite on the Jungle remix? And I could name several flows from the last few years going all the way back to his freestyle on T.i’s Asap beat and on a interlude called Flow. I can see why someone could say he’s biting flows (cause he started We Made It using Migos flow) but he’s making distinctions in the flow that separate himself from any other flow out. Its a very long list of flows Jay has made up himself and some his hard to pick out like “You can call me Caesar, in a dark Caesar”… but others are not like when he went crazy at the end of Who Gon Stop Me from WTT. There are several cadence changes on a Jay album or verse and on many of them he actually does deliver his own flow that is unique to everybody else out.

        • marty mcfly

And like I said many times before… People try to box in my comments as if they only meant to explain how dope Jayz is? NO, these comments (about Jayz) are meant to show the nature OF THE CRAFT AND THE ART overall… when its done over and over again for a whole career at a very high level.

          • LIV3

how the fuck cant we box your comments in nigga you come to jay-z’s rescue more than any other rapper..95% of the time your commenting on a jay-z post and its not even an original coment its always commenting on someone elses comment for talking bad or critisizing jay-z you act as if the nigga never makes any mistake kuz you can never say “iight nigga you right” its always “NO JAY-Z IS THE BEST AND THATST THAT” you never have anything bad to say about jay-z kuz as soon as someone talks bad about the nigga, its almost for certain your gonna show up in his defense it never fails

          • LIV3

how the fuck cant we box your comments in nigga you come to jay-z’s rescue more than any other rapper..95% of the time your commenting on a jay-z post and its not even an original coment its always commenting on someone elses comment for talking bad or critisizing jay-z you act as if the nigga never makes any mistake kuz you can never say “iight nigga you right” its always “NO JAY-Z IS THE BEST AND THATST THAT” you never have anything bad to say about jay-z kuz as soon as someone talks bad about the nigga, its almost for certain your gonna show up in his defense it never fails

          • marty mcfly

This is not a “defense” or a “rescue” of Jayz because he’s not in any danger fool. Yes, I have said others are right before and yes I have criticized Jayz before. I said La Familia from the last album was wack. So again, I dont know what you so mad about but you need to smoke a joint or something cause you bitching out when its not necessary.

          • Y’all made my day just now.

  • Black Thought went in!

  • COLDCASE187

IM A PUT A POKE DOT ON UR DOME AND KWAME YA

  • espyy

Black Thought killed. Jay did it in his way too. Why fight? :/

  • adam_dz

Please SS, more of this and less of losers like Wais P and Ransom!

    • Ransom is fire bro. It’s all opinions anyway. I just feel like SS music doesn’t fit ransom. That project they did felt rushed and came off more like SS jumping on this dude’s sack so he could have another notch in his belt.

    • Willmatic

I liked that Ransom and SS project, but you right about Wais P. Hate that nigga

  • Nuance

Is Meka gonna host the album release at SOB’s again!? Such a dope so last time. Fuckin Thought is the greatest

  • Nuance

People don’t understand Black Thought can rap like this all fucking day. Peep his freestyles he doesn’t have to try at all! You gotta understand he is in a fucking band and he is hardcore about making art. He’s all about releasing shit way different than everyone else who are releasing the same shit every fucking week! Name an album like Undun or And Then You Shoot Your Cousin…. You can’t. That is what the fuck Black Thought is about. That’s why he slaughters his features, it’s a fucking breeze. What he does, his art, The Roots art, no one is trying. Congratulate the God or shut your fucking mouth.

  • “the texture of my voice is coarse, it’s so gritty
that I can make the people Revolt with no Diddy”

    Black freaking Thought…

  • Pizza Steve

    Can’t even describe this insanity!

  • this deranged nigga marty mcfly typing these long ass disquisitions that only prove that he gets not a molecular strand of pussy moisture.

Nigga doesn’t even bother indenting and expects us to read a wall of fuckin’ text.

Black Thought was dope but Royce and Bronson were some lyrical pugilists with they punchlines, too.

    • marty mcfly

I dont need to indent nerd LOL and I would get on some shit about bitches with you but thats an area I need no defense on. In the fucking bad bitches department? As God is my witness I honestly cant complain at all. #I’ve been blessed by the pussy thousands of times. Worry bout yours brah.

  • Chris ‘GP’ Morris

Super ill. Black Thought is impeccable. #PhillyWeHere

  • Jason Riggsby

the funniest thing about this is there are 2 whole other dudes on the track that may have been mentioned twice in this comment section. lol, Its BEEN time for a black thought solo lp. A legit one with producers that arent also his bandmates. Black thought over nottz! that’d be stupid

  • This is one of those tracks so dope you just start laughing out loud as you’re listening to it. On a tiny footnote, can we drop the producer tags in 2014? lol

  • Sha king

Black thought goes in on this I forgot the other two was even on the track. Top five for sure …

  • fonzo517

    all them dudes went in
