In what will undoubtedly slow down the momentum for his upcoming album Dreams Worth More Than Money, Meek was sent to jail yesterday for violating a myriad of parole rules, such as posing in pictures while holding a gun, doing shows and concerts that were not pre-approved and changing his phone number without notifying the proper authorities. According to TMZ – aka the bastion of all things hip hop – Meek is slated to spend between three to six months locked up, while other conflicting reports suggest that he could be out in as little as three to four weeks. Whatever the case is, this isn’t good for his career at the moment as – if the longer sentence holds up – it will take him right through his album’s scheduled release of September 9th. Ouch.

UPDATE: Rick Ross issued a statement about Meek’s arrest today, to MTV

I created MMG years ago, my desire was to create a space where the most talented artists in the world could be nurtured and supported. With that came a commitment. I vowed to support these artist, through the good and the bad. Every individual signed to MMG is not just an artist, they are my family. And with family you ride, or you die. Yesterday, my brother, Meek Mill ran into some unfortunate legal issues. It happens. However, his team, our team, will continue to execute Meek’s plan as close to schedule as possible. His album is coming. We ask that the fans and the media continue to support him and his music during this time. He’ll be home soon. ‘Dreams Are Worth More Than Money,’ and family is worth more than Everything. MMG FOR LIFE.
