Being an avid “underground head” before the turn of the millennium I was introduced to the MPLS hip hop scene at an early stage of my ongoing relationship with music. The unbeatable Rhymesayers roster helped fill my mix CDs time and time again. It was then where I truly believed I must of resided in the Twin Cities in a prior life. I just had to.

Fast forward to the closing of 2014 and the same region continues to dominate my playlists, even if the line-up has been altered dramatically.

Enter thestand4rd. After becoming fans of one another through their solo work, DopeHouse favorites Allan Kingdom and Psymun, internet sensation Spooky Black, and Bobby Raps joined forces and formed their new group. Catching the attention of Grammy-winning. Toronto-based producer Doc McKinney (who also happens to be another St. Paul native), the four flew to Toronto and recorded their debut full-length in the span of a month.

We don’t need a key if we’re kicking in the game/ Spooky not black, Allan not hood/ No we don’t move crack/ St. Paul, what’s good? – Doors

Now, on the heels of a successful sold-out hometown show (recapped by The Current), the foursome deliver the 11-track project, free of charge.

A stream/download for the album, a video for “Simple Needs” and the remaining dates of their six-date tour can be found below. Enjoy.
