Chris Rock & Tracy Morgan List Top 5 Rappers In Hilarious ‘TOP FIVE’ Preview

blame it on Shake November 6, 2014

The world will be introduced to Chris Rock’s new flick, TOP FIVE, when it hits theaters via Paramount Pictures on December 12th.

Co-produced by JAY Z and Kanye West, the Questlove-scored film features an all-star cast of Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Hart, Cedric the Entertainer, Jerry Seinfeld, Whoopi Goldberg, Jay Pharoah, and many others.

Pulsing with the rhythm of his greatest standup, Chris Rock’s TOP FIVE takes things to the next level, reveling in the high and the low, and blending a star-studded comedic romp with an irresistible romance. TOP FIVE digs under the surface of show business, politics, rap, and the exigencies of being black and famous today—holding it all up to the light in the way only Chris Rock can. Mingling echoes of Woody Allen and Dick Gregory with the energy of Kanye West and JAY Z, TOP FIVE is an original and radically new kind of American movie. Written, directed by, and starring Chris Rock, TOP FIVE tells the story of New York City comedian turned film star Andre Allen, whose unexpected encounter with a journalist (Rosario Dawson) forces him to confront the comedy career—and the past—that he’s left behind.

We received an early look into the New York City-based tale with the first official trailer (shown above) and now, Paramount has released another clip which just so happens to revolve around Top 5 rappers. In the clip below, Chris Rock and Tracy Morgan both reveal their true-to-life Top 5 rappers of all time.

Morgan: Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, KRS-One, Notorious B.I.G. (Sixth man: JAY Z)
Rock: JAY Z, Nas, Scarface, Rakim, Notorious B.I.G. (Sixth man: LL Cool J)

Although my personal list doesn’t match either, I can’t knock them for their choices. Great picks overall.

What about y’all?

  • Bashir Retro Bazemore

Nas 2pac jayz run krs1 (6th man Biggie)

  • Will

    Rakim
    Krs-One
    Black Thought
    Kool G Rap
    Chuck D

    • JEM

      Dope list.

  • Dat nigga

Biggie, cam, jay, nas, ye. 6th man, wayne.

    • GTFOH!

      Cam?

      Cam’ron?

      WHAT??

      You
      Are
      Fuckin’
      Kiddin’Me…?

      LOL!

      • JEM

And Wayne as a sixth man…lol.

        • GTFOH!

          I know… LOL

I think this n*gga might be 14, going or retarded…

          lol

          • Dat nigga

Lil Wayne’s the mobb harder than anything you got. Take that as you want. And dear summer? Do your googles. You outta touch.

        • Dat nigga

You got prodigy in yo top 5. You can’t talk.

          • JEM

Prodigy is way better than garbage as Wayne. Wayne shouldn’t be NOWHERE near a top 5. Even if he is a ”sixth man”.

          • Dat nigga

            Lol.

Nah. Only good thing about mobb deep was havoc.

          • JEM

            Both of them.

          • Dat nigga

            Lol nah

      • Dat nigga

Lol nigga must not have been alive when cam came thru. Jayz had to shut that down. Broke up the roc cuz of cam lol. Do your googles.

        • GTFOH!

I used to work for Undeas Records when he first signed…

No One… I mean NO ONE will have Cam’ron on any Top 5 list.

When you put together your Top 5 most OVER RATED rappers, then you can rock you Dipset chain.

          • Dat nigga

            Huh?

          • Dat nigga

            You mean untertainment records?

And I don’t care about nobody top 5 but mine. Most yall some lames that don’t even come from the culture. Just ran off and watched from a distance. Act like you know something.

Second, cam was like the only platinum artist on rocafella besides jay, fuck outta here.

Third, biggie cosigned his raps, which led to his deal with un. Not to mention he wrote on ma$e’s albums as well.

Fourth, cam got 3 classic albums. That’s fact.

His impact and influence? Do your googles bruh. You outta touch.

          • GTFOH!

            No I don’t mean Untertainment.

Undeas was Lance Rivera production/joint venture deal with Atlantic Records.
Production for Cam’s album was done through Undeas, but his record and distribution was through Untertainment.
            Untertainment was on Epic.

Cam had ONE platinum album, “Come Home With Me”

            3 classic albums?
You mean 3 Albums that people actually bought.
            lol.
Name one respected rapper that counts Cam as his influence.

Everything else you wrote doesn’t meant shit for him being Top 5 status.
            PS
I’m saying Cam is wack or shouldn’t be on someone’s Top 20 list.
But he hasn’t done enough lyrically or had a big enough of an impact on hip- hop to be worthy.
The most I’d give him is his allegiance to Dipset and how that had a an effect on the culture.

          • Dat nigga

Lol yeah you a lame ass cornball that got his feelings hurt. You said nothing worthy. It’s a known fact that dame pushed to get jays records played and respected and put his name and longterm relationships on the line for jays music. You talking like jay dropped music and everyone automatically loved. Like there was no ground work and gorilla tactics done dame to get rocafella recognized. Yeah you a jayz nut hugger, it’s apprent now lol

And let’s be real, most of the credit ppl give jay is for making 500 million, marrying beyonce, and representing the old niggaz still. The nigga only got like 3 classic albums outta 11.

And cam got three classic albums homeboy, you must be a nerd. Come home with me, purple haze, and killa season are classics. Fuck numbers. Niggaz in the hood don’t even buy albums, but that’s thr culture and intended audiences of these rappers. So what does numbers mean? Lol you a oldass cornball. Go somewhere lol

          • GTFOH!

I don’t know if Jay left you cold and lonely one night or Cam pink chinchilla’s your bitch ass out for a rim job, but ur a nigga who believes dumb shit.
I’m just waiting on you to say some Illuminatti shit.
            LOL.

Here are 3 classic albums for you:
            Reasonable Doubt
            The Black Album
            Vol.2… HardKnock Life

            oh wait.. there more…

Vol.3… Life And Times of Shawn Carter and The Blueprint

You can dick ride you faggot ass in a Vamp Life tight t-shirt all day homie.
Beside you and your hood rat mother, nobody is fuckin with Cam like that.

          • MusicHead

Nah Jay only had RD, BLCKALBUM, BP1 .. Hard Knock Life & AG are albums that are super dope not classics tho. & RD only a classic cause Jay forced it, niggas WASNT callin that a classic til Jay kept sayin it.

          • GTFOH!

Every list you google that’ll has classic hip hop albums on it, has “Reasonable Doubt”.

            Every one.

            Black Album?

            Every One

            The Blueprint?

            Ever One.

You cats live for today and don’t know yesterday, therefore tomorrow’s too far away to think about.

          • Dat nigga

No. Wack is just wack. If it’s wack yesterday, it’s wack today, and will be wack tomorrow.

And stop with your general consensus logic. Just cuz the majority believe something doesn’t mean you have to. Draw your own conclusions and formulate your own opinion.

          • MusicHead

If u read you’ll see I said those 3 smh.

          • Dat nigga

            That part.

          • Dat nigga

Lol you mad you mad!!! Aha hahahahahaha!!!

Nigga talked about my momma!! Old head in the comment section, resorted to calling my momma a hood rat lol. Feelings much?

Lol and nah bruh, no way in hell jay got 6 classic albums. And you named some of the weakest ones.

His only classics are RD, Black album, American gangster. All the rest had coo singles or joints, but not a whole album. You dickriding.

          • GTFOH!

            American Gangster??
            LMFAO!!!!!

Sit your crumb ass down somewhere!

            LOL!!!

          • Dat nigga

            Nah.

        • GTFOH!

          And know your history.
Jay shut that down because Dame was making business decisions without his say so.
He thought, as most of hip-hop thinks, that Cam is not on his level.

Cam had very little to do with the Roc breaking up.
          It was Dames ego.

          Google that

          • Dat nigga

Jayz not even an exec, get off his nuts. The nigga has no artist to claim fame from except himself and Rihanna.

Dame brought in cam, brought in beans, pushed for kanye when jay didn’t. Jim jones was bigger than bleek!

            You just a hater lol

          • GTFOH!

            Jay wasn’t an exec?
            LOL
People only respected Dame because he had Jay.
Without Jay… what did/does he have?

Dame bringing in Cam was a stupid business deal because it only favored Cam.
Jay didn’t like how he brought Cam in and made him VP but didn’t look out for cats who was riding longer with the Roc.

Dame is a fast talking charlatan who no one wants to do business with now.
This is why Dame is where he is today and Jay is on everybody’s list, from Forbes to Top 5.
No one sided with Dame when Roc broke up because all he did was dick ride off Jay’s success and money grab.
Every deal Dame did since the fall of Roc has been a sham.
Every artist needed Jay’s co sign for their first single to get on the radio, besides Kanye.
And yo know where Kanye took his talents.
Jay out maneuver Dame and left him reaching for strings and hand out.

Cam is reduced to putting out pseudo records for Miss Info to dick ride to
            LOL

          • Dat nigga

Cam is writing movies, fuck outta here madd hater. Cam got 3 classic albums. Get off jay z nuts. Jayz just dick rode kanye for two albums straight when he didn’t even think dude could make a single lol fuck outta here boi. Before that it was puff and tryna make a life after death album. Before that it was kingdom come lol

I’m done cuz jay still my boy lol. But you obviously got the wrong thinking patterns bruh lol

          • GTFOH!

            HAVE YOU SEEN HIS “MOVIES”????

            LMFAO!!!

            Writing movies..
You killed me with that one.

That Chris Rock movie clip you just watched?
Brought to you by the good people at the house that Hov built.

            LOL.

            Your a fuckin’ dummy son.

          • Dat nigga

Nigga I’ve seen worst movies from ppl who went to film school with tons of experience. And cam is doing this without hugging jays nuts and his cosign. Cam got movie deals with Netflix. Jayz and kanye attached their name and money to a Chris rock film. You can’t be that fickle mr record exec lol and the damn movie ain’t shit but a barbershop discussion about their favorite top 5 rappers lol

Lol go somewhere bruh. You old and stupid lol.

And the nigga said the house that Hov built smh. Like there was no Biggs, no dame. Just jay lol

            Lol yeah now I’m done.

          • GTFOH!

            “Seen worst movie…”?
            That’s your criteria?
ANYBODY can write a piece of crap movie.

As far as his “deal” with Netflix, not one.. ONE SOURCE on record to back up Cam’s claim other then the shit he said.
Only deal I read about it that of Netflix and Flavor Unit inking a deal which brought over that Cam’ron movie “Percentages”.
Find a source that verifies his deal and I’ll believe that bullshit.

            You’re a fuckin’ lame

            LOL!
And there is no Biggs or Dame.

The last man standing is the nigga who really knew how to do business.

Like Jay said “They say they made Hov, Hov says ok so, make another Hov”

            clown.

          • Dat nigga

Lol wow. I feel sorry for you. Real shit. You really believe the shit you just said. Iight..

For one, not anything and everything that goes on is available for you’re connivence bruh, entitled much? Cam don’t even put his name in certain projects cuz of haters like you. What ya papi jayz say? Sum’n sum’n anonymous? Yeah that.

Second. YOU write a movie. That’s all I need lol

Third, nigga said jay is the last man standing bcuz he knows who to do business smh lol. Jay gets murked out like biggie if it’s not for Biggs, dame and the streets. Has nothing to do with “business” or how many white boys you know.

It’s lame cornballs like you that think you know something, but don’t at all. Sit and reevaluate some shit lol.

          • marty mcfly

Cam’ron was poppin from 2000 to 2004 and even then Jay, Nas, 50, Em etc… was still hotter then him. Since Purple Haze Killa has not made anything better then that and LiL fucking Wayne has remained hotter and more consistent then Cam. Killa is dope but top 5? NO. I doubt Killa even makes it past Kanye West.

          • Dat nigga

Bruh, get off my list. Dont talk to me about cam. Before I really get started.

          • marty mcfly

            Nigga T.i >>> Killa

          • Dat nigga

Lol that’s laughable. T.i. That needed young thug for a single, and got bodied off one verse. By young thug lol

          • marty mcfly

He still is arguably better then Cam overall. Killa might be a better lyricist but Ti might be a better song writer…

          • Dat nigga

Nah. I don’t see it. But that’s your opinion and I have mine. And cam’s not moving outta my spot by no one.

When that nigga say “everybody asking me what fuckin label I’m signing to, I’m the CEO of diplomats records, I sign myself.” And then proceeds into his verse on get em daddy, smh. No other. THATS starting from the bottom, now we here. With bars.

          • marty mcfly

Starting from the bottom? I dont think T.i is from Beverly Hills.

          • Dat nigga

T.i. Did to. That was aimed at Drake. I’m just still not taking t.i. Over camron. Not in a billion years.

          • GTFOH!

            Who’s on Diplomat records now?
What are the Dipset doing today?
Cam is the CEO of what respected company?
His last hit record was when?
            Niggaz are yelling “Dipset” where?

Jim Jones is trying to make his money off his girl and reality TV.
            Juelz Santana is M.I.A
Freeky Zeeky is nothing but a trivia question.

            dummy

          • Dat nigga

Why are you such a groupie tho? Lol. They paid. Chillin. Obviously don’t need to rap anymore. You mad?

          • MusicHead

            True lol

          • Dat nigga

            Nah.

          • MusicHead

TI got more clout than Cam bro lol..period.

          • Dat nigga

I don’t see how. Might have more paper. But he ain’t shut shit down like cam. He ain’t turn the industry bloods like cam lol it’s no comparison.

And dude needed tiny, sorry bruh.

          • GTFOH!

            ” …turn industry blood”

            You ignorant bitch.

You just keep saying dumb shit.

            You need your ass whipped!
            LMFAO!!

          • Dat nigga

First, hop off my dick. Second, YOU not finna do shit. Third, that’s called influence. T.i. can’t even influence his wife to act right lol

But that’s a low blow. I got love for t.i. Just not over cam.

          • GTFOH!

When you finally run up in some pussy after all these years having your asshole eating out by Dipset niggaz, you tell me how “influential” you are to your girl.

You can’t stop saying fuck boy shit, can you?

            lol

          • Dat nigga

That shit was dumb gay. No response.

          • MusicHead

Your bias is showing..T.I. is better than Cam bruh..period.

          • Dat nigga

Nigga. In what shape ot form? Lyrically? No. Musically? Cam had early ye, just blaze, heatmakerz, info. And some more. Influence? Like, for real?

Putting his homies on? That’s where camron trump all these rap niggaz. Cuz these niggaz turn fake as hell when they get some fame and money. What camron say “money don’t change you. It shows who you really are.”

          • MusicHead

Producers doesn’t mean he more better musically, and lyrically TIP better..he better overall as a rapper, you just really like Cam thats all bruh..but T.I. over him..especially career wise.

          • Dat nigga

Nah you obviously just like t.i. You the homie but you ain’t say nothing worthy. Lyrically t.i. can’t even box with JEEZY or ross in certain rounds. T.i. shit is too forced and rehearsed and stiff to be enjoyable. Nigga be sounding like a dumb nigga tryna overcompensate and prove and he not a dumb nigga.

          • MusicHead

Nigga what??? See reason why I haven’t said anything cause I was hoping you would wise up but nah you be ignorant and stick to it..and plus I didn’t feel like explaining but now..I got to..now if u listen to even recent TI like the song “Wit Me” his verses on there, Cam’Ron not gon have verses like that..Cam may have had verses with nice bars but his delivery has never been elite to compliment period he alps has never had a run like TI did and has never big of albums like KING, & Paper Trail.. As well TI had to fight jail sentences and etc..also Jeezy wa a never lyrically good until later in his career..Jeezy just made listenable trap music niggas could bump then got older in the game and got better at rapping..while Ross he could rap just was simple delivery to start off but as Deeper than Rap era hit he got so much lyrically diverse and his delivery went way up..now Ross gives him a run for his money for sure..but lyrically Jeezy nah..overall career wise. And I’m still taking TI..plus he’s way more consistent than ya boy Killa..don’t let the greatness of ignorance that Cam makes overshadow everything causing you to overrate the man..he ain’t one of those ones u think off top in the 2000 decade..like the Wayne’ Ye, TIP, 50, Jeezy nshit. Also Im Serious TI sounded raw, Trap Muzik still raw but learning to form and perfect his crafted own style, by Urban Legend he had it perfected just needed the commercial success, so like Wayne with C3 he did that with King and made his star bigger, then Paper Trail he had some of his biggest hits to date, and outside of the hits on the album, the album is slightly overrated.. If it isn’t for his legal troubles he probably woulda never dropped a wack album during his run..but he dropped No Mercy WACK ass..even tho I Can’t Help It is fire, and Everything On Me, but he bounced back with one of his greatest well balanced and rounded albums Trouble Man.. While my man Cam had a solo run of Come Home With Me and Purple Haze after that shit wasn’t the same..the he tried to ride the Dip as a crew buzz with his Dipset mates but they work ethic was awful (Juelz) and they died off in a close fashion as G-Unit did..50 got more clout then Cam. Cam was irrelevant after his mini run in the early 2000s. Cam was like a better overall Ja Rule..like he wasn’t wack like Ja but his run was like Ja’s.

          • GTFOH!

Dame can’t hold his pockets together let alone hold someone else down and Biggs in jail for not knowing when to get out the game.

Who’s murkin’ Jay if these niggaz are all hemmed up?

Cam is an anonymous screen writer???
            LOL!!

Your either fuckin’ retarded, breathing in Cam’s ass air or both.

Do you rap better than Jay?
Are you more successful in your line of work?
            That’s all I need to know… LOL

Why don’t you start paying rent in your mom’s house and stop using up her electricity on the internet

            bitch.

          • Dat nigga

Lol jayz on ran far far away to have to worry about that anymore. Which is why he disassociated himself with biggs and dame. Don’t need em anymore. Fuck nigga shit. But that’s the shit you like and champion so I can’t even be mad at you. You don’t know no better.

Jayz doesn’t make it to see 500 million without Biggs and dame. For one, Biggs put up the money to fund rocafella when they couldn’t even get a deal for jay smh. Just go bruh. You keep going back and back.

            “bitch” lmfao!!

          • GTFOH!

            Jay said it best;

“…The pressure’s on, but guess who ain’t gon’ crack?
Pardon me I had to laugh at that
How could you falter when you’re the rock of Gibraltar
I had to get of the boat so I could walk on water”

Dame became a hinderance where as people stop wanting to do business with Jay because coke head Dame played bully politics.

If Dame was so good, why can’t he get out his own way nowadays?
How many times can a nigga go bankrupt or get foreclosed on?

Your dick ridin’ has no limit.

Jay made more money WITHOUT Dame than he did with him.

Jay showed he didn’t need Dame to continue being successful.
Dame showed he need Jay to stay on top.

          • Dat nigga

You ignorant as hell bruh. Again, jay doesn’t even get the opportunity to hop off a boat, if Biggs didn’t fund and protect that boat, and dame didn’t “bully” his way to get jay heard in the first place! Dame went to school for business, jay didn’t even graduate high school, who’s doing the dick riding?

And you wanna talk success after the breakup? Jay didn’t build anything. He just took what 10yrs of what dame and Biggs built while jayz was getting high loosing masters and trying to steal Aaliyah while trying to fuck nas baby momma and catching cases for stabbing ya boy un over charli Baltimore and saying it was over bootlegs lol

Yeah, jayz the MBA business man lol. Is the cock out your mouth now?

          • GTFOH!

Your like some bitch ass fag who gossips about grown ass men and read media takeout for all your news…
            LOL!!
With all of that being said and Jay was such a wack exec…

Why is he still on top?
Why does his Roc Nation/Roc Nation Sports have most of the music and sports game locked down?

Why is he still making hits and multi million dollars deals?

Why oh why is he still so successful if he was such a loser?

            ??

            Why is Biggs in jail?

Why is Dame constantly failing at every business he pops up in?

Why is he perpetually bankrupt and out of the loop?
Even Jim Jones can’t fuck him anymore.

          • Dat nigga

Lol nigga I’m speaking on rap history. Shit that’s in jays musical career. You talking about another mans finance and laughing at a man that’s locked up and can’t feed his family. Homie you the twisted one.

And jay is still successful cuz he owns the house that was built in 96. Not to mention “niggaz don’t think” biggie voice* so they do like you. Follow who everyone else follows. It’s a trendy society if you havnt noticed.

          • GTFOH!

You can’t be talking’ about rap history son.
You put Cam’ron in your Top 5

            LMFAO!!!

I’m laughin’ at a dumb ass nigga like Biggs, who was making legit money and was too stupid to let go of that life.
Hip hop police is watching you, and u think you can outwit them? lol.
If he wasn’t thinking about his family and how they were gonna eat while he was in jail, why the fuck should I?
Listen boy, Jay is still successful because he knew when to move on.
Some people over stay their welcome.
He owns his masters because he out maneuvered Dame and left him holding’ his dick in the wind.
Musically, Jay-Z has still been feeding’ the streets harder and more consistently than Cam.

And what the fuck u talking’ ’bout Biggie?
            He’s my 3 in my Top 5
He would be higher if he had made more albums.

          • Dat nigga

You a lame. Simple as that. You proved that by laughing at a man in jail. And sorry if he was doing the shit, that allowed jayz to call his raps “real” that you all eat up and call classic and rank niggaz top 5 n shit. You the type of nigga to get killed off if in the same position bcuz of how you think. Jay played that family card tough, while having brunch and plotting with the enemies. But, you know, do you.

And cam is most definitly in my top 5. How he came and took over the roc faster than jay and his team could is legendary.

Oh, and cam had an offer to be def jam president too lol. But he turned it down. Now go back to sucking jayz cock.

          • GTFOH!

            Fuck a nigga in jail.

That nigga ain’t in there because he was helping to raise the community.

He ain’t in there on a trumped up charge.

That niggaz was selling drugs to his own people and got caught.
Should I be giving this niggaz props?
Why don’t you go put money on his books for all he’s done for you.

That’s why you’re gonna stay losin, clown.
Jay was smart enough to see that it’s a short game and left the streets before the street took him.
Your dumb ass makin’ heroes outta muthafuckaz who destroy your community.

            You dumb ass fuck boy.

          • Dat nigga

Lol you ignorant as hell bruh. That’s all I got.

          • GTFOH!

            Ignorant?

            I’ll be that.

The last thing I want is props for praising a nigga in jail for selling drugs to other black people.

          • Dat nigga

But you’ll praise the nigga that did the same, was dumb enough to risk it all by stabbing a nigga over a females, snaked ppl he once called family for money and continued to rap about guns and drugs. Lol okay mr morally superior lol

          • GTFOH!

There’s a difference between chronicalizing a life and helping to destroy one.
What Jay does can be argued to be no different than Mario Puzo writing “The Godfather”.
Puzo didn’t actually have people killed like Gotti.
I’m praising Jay rap skills and his ability to move beyond the ignorance of the streets.
What am I praising Biggs for?

Selling drugs or being the money behind Jay’s talent?

          • Dat nigga

Being the money to fund jayz career when the white man wouldn’t and didn’t believe, and we’re right cuz it took jay 3 albums to find success.

And for Biggs protecting jay allowing him to make more than 3 albums, and not share the same fate biggie did.

          • marty mcfly

Who told you Dame funded Jays career? and who told you Biggs was Jays bodyguard? These are assumptions you made but neither Dame nor Biggs ever said that.

          • GTFOH!

            Your one gossipy bitch.

It’s like you go from gossip site to gossip site, believing hater tales.

You say all of that to say what?
That Dame and Biggs is nothing without Jay and that Jay winds up being a smarter player of the game than them both?

And now you throw in the white man for leverage.
When you run out of reasons for Dames failure and can’t explain away Jay’s success, you say some white guy had to help him… because a black person can’t possibly be successful without the devil?

            clown

          • Dat nigga

Lol nigga I’m speaking on facts wit yo dumbass. No body gave jay a deal, so they started their own. You just stupid. And it’s not gossip. Half the shit is in the music. Half the shit is on the streets. You just a nerd trying to debate street shit smh

          • GTFOH!

You have yet to say one “fact” but gossipy bitch shit and internet tales.
You sound like a nigga who’d wear a Dipset rag and think Harlem really held Cam down.
Are you part of the A$AP mob too?
            LOL!
You ain’t in those streets and you aint about that life that’s why everything you say is off the internet.

And it ain’t a debates if I’m talking arguing with a retard

          • marty mcfly

All that about Biggs and Dame is great but how would it be any Rocafella with Jayz? Without Jayz actually rapping how would Jayz be who he is? Regardless of anything Biggs or Dame did, songs still had to be made. Jay is the one who did the rapping, you take Jayz out the picture their would never be a Rocafella. Jay didnt finish high school but he learned things in the streets that teach you the same kinda lessons a school does about business. Im sure Jay made more money then the school teachers so therefore whatever their teaching is great but its safe to say Jays own knowledge has worked out for him. All that business knowledge Dame has is great but with no fucking music you cant move anything musically in the music business. Jay is the one that recorded the music.

          • Dat nigga

It takes all of them. Which makes it idiotic to give all the credit to jay simply bcuz he partnered up with the partners, and ex’d out “la familia”.

That’s like saying Jordan would still have 6rings without pippen or phil Jackson. It takes all of them. Yall just stupid or nieve. Or both.

          • marty mcfly

How would they do anything without Jayz? It is not certain that Jay would not have found other partners whether Dame and Biggs were involved because at that time (95 – 96) Hip hop was still growing and Jay may have found other business partners but how could Dame move an album like Reasonable Doubt without Jayz?

          • Dat nigga

No jay couldn’t. And not partners like dame and Biggs he can just “find” in the friendly streets of New York City. Don’t be stupid. That shit was something special.

And without dame jay wouldn’t have had that hard knock life beat. Cuz reasonable doubt and in my lifetime were not well received at the time, and if not for dame finding that single, jayz career would had been done.

Please get off jigga mans nuts now.

          • marty mcfly

I highly doubt that because at that time there were alot of intelligent people that were already in communication with Jay. Russell stayed in communication after they had the first couple initial meetings and Puff kept the door open for Jay and Jay didnt tell him no when they first spoke about a deal, Jay was thinking about it… I say all that to say Dame and Biggs weren’t the only smart people in the music business in communication with Jay at the time. The chances of Jay finding other business partners in NY around the time of 1995 woulda been very high. The chances of Dame making Rocafella work without Jayz is likely no chance at all.

          • Dat nigga

None of that would have worked to give jay the same fortune he has today. Cuz going to badboy he wouldn’t be going to be co-CEO of nothing. Puff was the boss, biggie underboss. Jay would had been capo. Which means he’s in no position to snake niggaz for masters. Puff had his on locks. Only death could stop that run. And russle neither. Still would had been an artist like LL

Partnering with dame and Biggs gave jay ownership which he would not have had otherwise. Nigga was just a drug dealer from Brooklyn with no education. Yall niggaz logic be flawed.

          • marty mcfly

Regardless how does Dame build Rocafella without Jayz? The reason this is important is because it clearly paints the picture of who really needs who and who needs who more? Your still missing the point that the chances of Jay finding other business partners is extremely high. The chances of Dame doing any of his music business shit without Jayz is probably zero. You say Jay is just a drug dealer with no education but how has that worked out for him? So apparently he aint a dumbass. Jays friends a family were also aiming to get behind Jays music career. Russell wasn’t excited about the deal but was still giving Jay advice on the business as far as ownership. Jay attended music events back then where Russell was the one who invited him…. So again, Jay probably would have been smart enough to still get where he’s at. Dame however could not have built Rocafella without Jayz.

          • Dat nigga

First off you’re talking probably. And no, Russle is not helping jayz that much. He’s a business man. How much help has jay given without getting a large cut in return?

And dame was managing acts before he got jay. That’s how he was able to get jays name out. Dame would had eventually found a great artist. It was Clark Kent that put jay with dame. Clark would had put another great artist with dame if not jay.

And dame been knew cam. And cam was signed to biggies would-be label, and wrote on ma$e shit. Was in a group with big L. Also had Juelz as his lil homie. Dame would had found success without jay.

          • GTFOH!

Who are these artist and where are they now?
If Dame would have found an artist, why didn’t he and why hasn’t he?
Lord knows every other one of his ventures hasn’t made him Jay-Z/Rocafella money

          • Dat nigga

The movies? Rocawear? Can’t be serious.

          • marty mcfly

All that is after the success of Jay record sells.

          • Dat nigga

            That dame was apart of.

          • marty mcfly

Jay woulda been successful with or without Dame because his ability would’ve still be intact. The business aspect woulda been handled because not only did Jay have the people there to do it (Clark Kent, Russell, Puff, Irv, Lyor etc…) but he was willing to pay for his own promo. Jay had other business partner options after the release of the Aint No Nigga single but since he was already movin he just kept on going but if Dame wasn’t there he woulda still kept going. Dame was there to be a Rocafella partner for Jay while Jay was recording songs and touring. Thats like acting as if Phil Jackson would actually step on the court and play in Jordans position at times. NO. Dame wasn’t even Phil Jackson though, he was an assistant coach cause you aint telling a nigga who makes the music and writes the checks wtf to do and Dame has never acting like he was.

          • Dat nigga

All of that was just stupid.

          • GTFOH!

Those “movies” went nowhere but into the street vault like “Belly” and every other Cam movie.
Roc a wear was bought from under him by Jay Z for $22 million, where Jay in turn resold it 2 years later for $204 million.

            Yeah…
Dame is the business mind in that group

            LOL

          • Dat nigga

How many movies jay produce? And yeah, a clothing dame built, that jay snaksd him out of. Yeah jay is really morally superior

          • GTFOH!

What has Dames movie producing gotten him?
And the only reason Rocawear was successful because people was buying into the Jay-Z mystique.
No one was trying to be Dame.
If that was so, what other successful clothing line did Dame run?

          • Dat nigga

If jayz was so smart, why didn’t he think of it first? Why did dame even have ownership? It wasn’t dame’s mystique.

            Dumbass.

          • GTFOH!

            Dame never had ownership.
Def Jam and Rocafella had a 50/50 split.

You really don’t know shit do you?

          • Dat nigga

He could have had S. Dot jeans or some shit. Just take your L and go.

          • marty mcfly

How did Jay snake Dame outta Rocawear? Was Jayz the FIRST to put the actual money and business plan behind Rocawear? Who holds the power over the brand of Rocawear regardless of ownership because do you think Dame actually bought the whole brand? Or did Jay just say you can do what you want with it because I’m not trippen? Jay wanting nothing fro Dame when he was going to Def Jam. Jay wanted one thing which was the masters to Reasonable Doubt.

          • marty mcfly

It cost Rocawear tens of millions of dollars before it started turing over profits. At the time right before the start up of Rocawear and the fucking movie shit, Dame was worth maybe 1.5 – 2 million dollars, Jay was worth 100 million dollars already. Who do you think was paying for all these Rocafella branch offs?

          • Dat nigga

Site your source. Jayz was not worth no fucking 100 mill before rocawear. Stop making up shit.

          • marty mcfly

My source is common sense. Go back and look at how many platinum records Jayz put up before Rocawear, how many records Rocafella sold as a company, how many sold out tours Jay headlined that was selling out and bringing in millions…. and then keep in mind that Rocawear wasn’t bringing in money for Jay right away, it was costing Jay for a few years before it got out the red and started turning over profit. By the time Rocawear started really making Jay some real money? He was already in the middle of BP2 and the Black Album. How much was he worth? 100 million. Dame not so much

          • marty mcfly

We don’t know what Russell would’ve done for Jay because after their initial meeting Jay started building his brand and the next time they really sat down to talk business Russell was very interested but Jay was already moving Rocafella… Not to mention Puff had always been open to doing business with Jay because Big used to speak about how dope he was… Again, how does Dame build the Roc without Jayz?

          • Dat nigga

            I just told you.

          • marty mcfly

You didnt tell me anything. The fact is Dame would not have been able to build the Roc without Jay. Jay could’ve found another business partner.

          • Dat nigga

Spoken like a true Stan lol

          • marty mcfly

How does Dame build the Roc without Jayz?

          • GTFOH!

But somehow he can’t find success without Jay-Z now?

            Sure.

          • Dat nigga

Cuz timing is everything. Just like jay can’t make RD or black album.

          • GTFOH!

            Timing is everything
So I think its time for me to get back to work since your dumb ass is nothing more then a dumb fuck ass dick rider who runs his mouth off of shit he HEARD not anything he actually READ,

          • Dat nigga

            Oh. Iight.

          • GTFOH!

Biggie died so Jay would have been in position to be “underboss”.

As history has shown, Jay would have found a way to create his fortune.

And look how far a ” drug dealer from Brooklyn with no education” has gone.

            Where the fuck are you?

          • Dat nigga

Let me partner with a hustler with an education and the nigga who run the streets, I’d be way better than jayz lol

And if big was to still die, jay was not moving up like that like its the mafia. Puff and big were brothers. Jay would have been a ma$e lol

          • GTFOH!

            Then do it
Or is it way more profitable to talk shit online?

          • Dat nigga

            The latter.

          • GTFOH!

spoken like a true fuck boy

          • Dat nigga

I’m trolling lol. You the old head talking about mommas with your nerdy ass. Why you even talking about badboy rocafella? There ain’t a Mac miller album for you to decipher? Lmao

          • marty mcfly

Jay himself was a hustler so you don’t think Jay woulda found a way to move his music? What do you think actually happened? Jay was looking out for himself and yes Dame and Biggs were also involved but it was Jay that was plotting his own success. Dame is not gonna step in and just organize another mans full out success without that man himself having some kinda common sense. Who do you think wrote those songs? Jayz. Dame has never to this day taken responsibility for Jays success. He has always said his job was to help Jay but he was not the source of Jays success. That was Jay himself. Again you have people that help the players by drawing up certain plays but the players themselves gotta actually play the game. Jay is an actual player in the game. No matter what plays were called, the player still gotta actually play or the team goes nowhere.

          • Dat nigga

Nah you making up shit. If that was the case dame would had given up the masters to reasonable doubt.

          • GTFOH!

He didn’t “give up” the masters.
            He was paid off.
He knew he had nothing really to do with what was on those masters and the only person who really deserved ownership was nigga who person who cats went out to hear spit.

You act as if he had a right to those masters.

            LOL

          • Dat nigga

Well you got “fuck nigga” logic, so you wouldn’t understand.

          • marty mcfly

If anybody is making stuff up its you. You talking about Dame funded Jays career and Biggs was his protection? You have zero evidence to assume that was true. Dame didnt give up the masters because he was an idiot. Jay was willing to cut Dame a check for those masters for more then what the masters are worth and this idiot didn’t go for it but he’s so stupid that he sold his half of the Roc to Def Jam which included the masters so Jay still got his masters in the end. Smh

          • Dat nigga

That’s not what I said. Re read.

          • marty mcfly

Whatever you said was stupid cause you given more credit to Dame then Jay in terms of Rocafella when Jay was the talent, the head of the brand and the fucking bank roll of it.

          • Dat nigga

            Whatever you say.

          • GTFOH!

            Nigga ran outta words…. LOL!!!

          • Dat nigga

Lol I did. What more can I say. Pun intended.

          • GTFOH!

            Answer me this…
If Dame was so smart, why couldn’t e do it again?
Jay found people to help continue his success, which goes to show Dames and Biggs was replaceable.

Dame wanted to be like Puff, but Puff did it again and again without B.I.G.

That’s a true business man and a nigga who got lucky by association.

          • Dat nigga

Puff continued in the prime of his career. Where puff been at since? Making money else where till french decided to sign. When jay snaked dame, jay was already washed up and got lucky with kanye signing with him. And that industry ain’t fair. Everybody simply sided with jay to get something from jay, not bcuz he had better business sense. Dame taught him the business.

          • GTFOH!

If Dame “taught” him, why can’t he find his way out of his own hole?
The pupil becomes the teacher and the teacher is booking small club dates for Jim Jones.

            LOL.

Puff realized the music game was drying up and diversified.
What did Dame do but lose everything from business, wife and reputation.
You keep saying Jay “snaked” Dame.

            Dame snaked himself.

He had no back up plan and burned very bridge he had.

          • Dat nigga

You shouldn’t need a backup plan with family and there never would be unless the one who has the plan wasnt family to begin with. Just pretending.

          • GTFOH!

            You ARE stupid.

Any true business man knows family and business don’t mix.
Dame admitted he knew for a minute Jay wasn’t happy with the direction he was taking the Roc.
            Jay had a plan.
            Dame had punchlines and excuses.

          • Dat nigga

Dame took the high road cuz it’s no point in crying over spilled milk. But im not dame. And that shit was snake. They wanted to be a family like badboy so bad. And was. But in retrospect, that shit could never work with a nigga like jay. Cuz he’ll play the role until he’s in a position to push you out.

That’s what made biggie so special. He rode for puff. They was like starsky and hutch lol. Dame rode for jay. But jay not riding for nobody but jay. You can’t have no family like that. It’s bound to fall.

The irony of the shit is, jay is like Rico in paid in full, played by cam lol

          • GTFOH!

            Biggie didn’t ride with Puff.
He talked about Puff all the time.
Puff was known to be shady and Big knew that.
Money is money and friends are friends.
            They don’t mix.
That’s why Jay parted ways because he could no longer trust Dame.
He seed with known niggaz who Jay didn’t like.
Promoted them in the company Jay help found.
And then started skimming money out Jay’s pot.
Fuck ’em and see if they can swim without you

          • Dat nigga

Mark curry? Lol I thought you had it from biggies mouth himself. Biggie did nothing but praise and thank puff. Mark was bitter so his perspective is bitter. The nigga already admitted to making up most the shit in his book.

And from the vibe issue, idont even know who dude is, but he contradicted himself. Nigga said they was waiting for his badboy contract to be up, but said he was still gonna be badboy, just branch out. And the nigga said it was gonna be on rocafella. Yeah right. Rocafella who? Them niggaz wasn’t nobody at that time. Not as a label. And puff was apart of the commission too. That’s where he got the name p diddy. Lil cease and em. the commission was badboy, just with jay. That shit made no sense lol. Don’t just read whatever. Read thoroughly. And everything.

          • GTFOH!

            Just STFU!!

Everything you just wrote was so all kinds of wrong, I don’t have time to even try yo make sense of it.

Dame did not take the high road. He cosigned Cam’s diss records toward Jay. Jay has said nothing negative about Dame but Dame has made several comments about Jay and Dame has said himself that Jay has never done anything wrong to him business wise or otherwise. Dame has said he had problems with other people at Def Jam not Jayz.

          • Dat nigga

That’s after jay snaked. Of course he’s gonna cosign his little homie defending him. Are you serious? I was talking recently where he say he judged helped jay and downplay his role in pushing records for jay. That’s dame taking the high road. Cuz i heard different about dames role in jays success.

          • marty mcfly

What did Jay do Dame besides over pay him by millions of dollars? Who do you think was generating the money and funding Rocafella records? Jayz. Dame was not bringing in an equal amount at any time of the Rocs history. Now he may have managed acts other then Jay but he was not the one buying all them cars, homes, buses, planes, places of business, companies and providing the budget for Rocafella because who was sitting on at least 95% of Rocafella’s money? The guy generating it, which would be Jayz. He didnt snake Dame, he made him alot richer then he ever woulda been by himself.

          • GTFOH!

            You’re one failure ass nigga…

            LOL!!

You OBVIOUSLY either don’t have a job.
            Never had any real money.
            Never finish school.
Your actually family disowned you so you look to niggaz in the street to lift you

            Family….?

            LMFAO!!

          • Dat nigga

Lol you don’t know the streets. You just a nerd that loves rap music and wanna be so bad lol. Stay outta grown folks conversations. Do something for the community. Build a school with that “real money” you got. Anything but visiting a hiphop blog with yo oldass lol.

          • marty mcfly

Dame was stealing from money made off Jay recordings. The most money spent on records came from Dame in promo dollars whether Jay agreed to it or not. The problem is Jay was the dominate bread winner for Rocafella recordings which is why Dame and Jay would agree on the money spent in the first place. This is before Rocawear started turning over profit. Then Dame started cosigning diss records aimed at Jay. So if there was a snake it would be Dame.

          • Dat nigga

            Irrelevant. That’s after the facts.

          • marty mcfly

            After what facts?

          • imjustellinu

wow. do you not get what hes saying ? both of you man ive been reading all this shit cause im bored af, this guy is saying without dame and biggs doing what they did, jay wouldn’t be where he is now. without jay, maybe no one would know who dame and biggs are either. Hes saying they needed EACHOTHER and once Jay got what he needed he burned the bridges and moved on which is some real snake shit. but then again most succesful business men are snakes, double crossers and/or just some evil motherfuckers. thats how they stay winning by fucking people over again and again. go look up some recent shit about how jay and kanye stole one of the watch the throne songs “made in america” from some unknown artist…

          • marty mcfly

Yeah and I’m saying how do we know Jay wouldn’t have still been successful? What if Jay got another business partner? THATS what im saying and there are plenty of people who knew Jay besides Dame and Biggs. How did he snake Dame when Dame himself said Jay never snaked him? Dame said himself that HE got fed up with the business and HIS relationship with Def Jam but Jay did nothing to him as a matter a fact he said Jay did excellent business with him so how is that snaking him? Before Jay went to Def Jam Dame was saying Jay earned his success through his own hard work so how did he snake Dame? After the Black Album Jay came back from vacation and found out that millions of dollars were used for promo of Cam’s album and Jay accepted that but started distancing himself because no other artists was spending millions in promo for one album on Rocafella and Dame never cleared that with Jay, he just did it and on top of that now Cam is sending little disses in lines at Jay and Dame is cosigning… This whole time Jay said nothing negative about Dame. Then Def Jam gives Jay a president opportunity and Jay discusses it with Dame because Dame knew about it because how could he not? Dame asked him what the split was gonna be and how much did Jay want? (Because Jay was the money behind Rocafella the whole time), Jay said he didnt want nothing expect his masters for his first album. Dame wasn’t making nothing on that album (and if he was it was very little in comparison to what Jay was already paying him) and he still tried to hold on to it business wise. How is that Jay snaking Dame? Do you know how much money Dame had made at that point? I dont but it was in the millions for sure. So after making millions, Dame tries to stick it to Jay over the masters of Reasonable Doubt? And remember Dame wanted out anyway… My thing is it is not certain that Jay would just never been successful without Dame because his music could’ve still done what it was gonna do. If Priority didnt distribute RD then Im sure another company would and the story goes on from there with or without Dame. You got MCs that aint that intelligent, dont have the business connects or the skills that still found a way to put their music out. You think Jay wouldn’t have figured out how to release his music? Of course he would have…

          • imjustellinu

okay you made your NON snaking point, with dame at least.
I don’t care much about this topic TBH.
and jay probably would of still been succesful without dame but who knows, he coulda been bigger, or he coulda been papoose.

          • Dat nigga

He would had been a papoose. Ppl give jay too much credit. And he’s still my boy. Mostly cuz of the money tho lol

          • GTFOH!

            Except if Jay-Z is Jordan,
            Dame ain’t Scotty and
            Biggs at Phil …

Scotty had success after Jordan with the Trail Blazers and Phil Jackson went on to the Lakers.

What did Dame and Biggs do??

            Exactly.

          • Dat nigga

It’s not literal you dumb shit its figurative. But, you know, do you.

          • And to think…All this because you had an honest opinion. smh….thats wild.

          • Dat nigga

Lol smh you can’t be real no more. Not without niggaz coming for your head. Just blend in and follow the pack smh.

            LMFAO!

          • marty mcfly

thing is you base your realness on things that go against reality and shit that cant even be proven. You talking about shit Dame did for Jay that none of us would even know. Several of your statements are assumptions that are wrong cause they not even what the person you talking about has ever said in the first place. You act as if somebody as smart as Jayz wouldn’t have just found other business partners without Dame? That shit happens all the time. People find the kinda business partners their looking for, especially MCs with extreme talent like in the 90s and you acting like Cam’ron is the greatest rapper of all time when clearly reality don’t line up with that.

          • Dat nigga

Oh. Iight. Just blend in Marty. And follow the pack. You’ll be safe there lol

          • marty mcfly

Even with your Bulls comparison? How do they win championships without playing the game? Phil Jackson can give Jordan plays but Jordan still has to play the game. Jayz played the game and won the championship several times. No matter what plays are called, the player still has to execute on the court. Jayz has to take credit for is playing ability because he’s the one making the music. There is no Rocafella without Jayz.

Rappers who set trends and furthered the scene.

Not rappers that you think are nice
(Like Cam. MF DOOM, AZ or Talib Kweli)

          • Dat nigga

Thats top 15, but I hear you. You like cole and drake and Kendrick. That’s coo. I’m more for the culture and the forgotten. Cuz these so called conscious and enlightened ain’t really conscious or enlightened. Just elitist.

          • marty mcfly

In the top 15-20 you potentially have names like Scarface, Busta Rhymes, Kanye West, Guru, Talib Kweli, Black Thought, DMX, Lauryn Hill, Raekwon, Ghostface, Method Man, LL Cool J, Andre 3000, The Game, Mos Def, Slick Rick, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, 50 Cent, etc… Im sorry but Kendrick, Cole and Drake are not in the top 15. Congrats on their success but they not in that kinda range yet.

          • Dat nigga

Drake cole and Kendrick not in my top 15. You replied to the wrong nigga.

          • marty mcfly

I’m just saying. Now thats top 15 – 20 and in the top 6-10, Pac, Big, Em, Snoop, Rakim, and KRS One gotta be somewhere in that range. People like Drake, Kendrick and Cole could one day be in there but these other names have put in too much work to just be passed up in a few years. Its like trying to put Kendrick over Snoop Dogg? Thats just not the case as of now.

          • Dat nigga

Kendrick got one album, and two mixtapes. Wayne did 77 songs in one year. While on tour. All fire.

          • JEM

Kendrick got 2 albums, 5 mixtapes, 1 EP and they’re better than ANYTHING in wayne’s entire discography. It doesn’t matter how many wack ass watered down Hip POP songs wayne did in a year. They’re STILL garbage.

          • Dat nigga

nigga, wayne earned his spot. Bcuz you care to focus on the pop shit that brought in the dough and built the platform to keep cash money still relevant and larger, then that’s on you. But wayne got the something you forgots, the dear summers, the hustler musics, the receipts, I can go on. Kendrick make “you ain’t got coke? Fuck it, give me that meth” type of music.

          • JEM

All his shit wack, and just watered down Hip POP. You wayne fanatics give that ”his work ethic is unmatched” shit. When he just saturated the game with lazy, generic, repetitive bullshit…foh. Wayne will always be trash, and overrated.

            Gillie Da Kid…

          • Dat nigga

Lol nigga no. Gillie wrote for birdman and that was all pre-carter. Remember birdman use to be apart of the big tymers. I guessing gillie wrote Wayne’s lil verse at the of back that azz up to then lol. You know the one that everyone loves lol smh

          • JEM

Gillie wrote on carter II along with Curren$y. Even Nicki Minaj admitted to writing shit for wayne. Lol…lil wayne a fraud.

          • Dat nigga

Hooks don’t count. Bars are all wayne. That’s fact.

          • JEM

Except he didn’t only write hooks…lol. And actually hooks play a big part in songs. I mean, they’re the reason it HOOKS a person into singing/rapping along with the song…

          • Dat nigga

That’s true. But I’m talking about the art and skill of rapping. Which wayne perfected. With those 77 songs.

          • JEM

            Lmao. Okay then…

          • MusicHead

Gillie said he never wrote for him tho..on video

He said he did, on another video.

          • Dat nigga

That was before the one stating he didn’t. And clarified he wrote for birdman. Said wayne stole his swag and flow.

          • MusicHead

Go do us research he said he didn’t and that he only helped him with this style smh

          • GTFOH!

Lil Wayne has lyrics but he has WAAAY too many wack records to be taken seriously sometimes.
If you’re going off of money and hits, then start putting the Nelly’s, Vanilla’s Ice’s and Puff’s on your list.
I like Wayne, but I can’t listen to a whole album of his.
Too many garbage tracks and hooks

To be better then Jayz you gotta do almost everything he has done and do it better (artistically). Jay came out in 1996 and is still poppin in 2014. In those 19 years Jay has been actively in the top spot musically or in range of the top stop for about 16 or 17 years. No matter how many classics you think he has or number one singles he has, or how many dope lines he has…. OVERALL the material is there and OVERALL to be better then Jayz you gotta do at least more then half of what he’s done and have to do it better. I think some of ya’ll have alot of respect for some of these guys you listing but some of them aint been popping since the early – mid 90s and you got them over Jayz? COMEONSON

Its staggering that Pharoahe Monch gets 1 mention (although not top 5) amongst a lot of people that clearly understand hip hop history. As a lyricist he is easy top 10, I have him top 5 with Nas, Jay, Em, and Andre 3000.

PM has a very good catalogue and has been an elite MC for 20+ years. His albums (inc OK) are all very good and for me Internal Affairs is a classic.

He also gave us the greatest club banger of all time in Simon Says.

I think its because Pharoahe Monch never really much of a mainstream hold from a commercial standpoint and the others in the top 5 have for the most part. I’ve heard his name brought up by people who you wouldn’t think knew who he was but its just very hard to argue a strictly lyrical point when debating greatest of all time. Its like saying Lupe is top 5 (or like Slug of Atmosphere)? To some they would say well lyrically he has proven that point to a significant degree but its not enough when talking about the position of top 5.

I get that but when you are debating amongst knowledgeable hip hop fans I dont think it matters about mainstream success because they know who PM is and surely understand the skills and longevity he carries.
Also I think we need to define what top 5 all time debate includes. My list was more of a top 5 MC list as opposed to a top 5 hip hop artist list.
Guys like Pac and Kanye would have an argument for top 5 artist but I wouldnt have them top 15 as MC or lyricist.

The lyricist part of the equation is extremely hard to factor in purely by itself because you have many people that actually don’t know many of the lyrics that they argue so hard about it. This is why an overall approach as far as being an artists is factored in terms of top 5. We can take the two obvious MCs for example, Jayz and Nas and its alot of lyrics people don’t know as opposed to the material they do know. When you start mentioning none singles and albums that wasn’t that hyped then you find out people arguing a lyrical point without actually knowing most of the lyrics (not saying you, im saying in general with most people). So it becomes very difficult to debate lyrics and then you also gotta give space for bias and opinion. Example I think Common is top 5? Most people are gonna disagree. This is because my opinion in terms of lyrics leans more to alot of things Common as said but alot of other people are not gonna see it that way. This is why the top 5 debate usually includes things other then just pure lyricism. I hear what your saying though.

Fair point. i just take it as a given that fans like ourselves will know all the material before debating on it.
Common is a great shout. i would have him or Black Thought as my 6th man.

how about there is way too many rappers out there past & present to make an accurate Top 5 and everytime anyone tries to discuss this shit people just argue and get off topic because people dont respect OTHER PEOPLES opinions.

Ye, Biggie, Dom( as in dom kennedy…thats right niggas), Jay-Z, Kendrick, with honorable mentions for NWA and chance

2pac (being a political leader gets the most points from me, you can change the world with a mic), Outkast(best overall EVER), Kendrick Lamar (dude already has a lot of music out, so not too early.. More political points), Nas, Em… I’ll take Kanye off the bench… If it were possible for Em,Kendrick, or Outkast to be out the same time Rakim was doing his thing, wouldn’t they get the better of him? I know we have to ignore the fact that he greatly influenced them but…

I like how real that one seen is. It seems like the entire scene was completely unscripted. It would be awesome if most of the entire movie is like that.
