YG – Blame It On The Streets (Short Film)

blame it on Meka December 15, 2014

You know, I originally believed that YG would drop his new short film (which released today, alongside the accompanying soundtrack) in the same manner that every rapper drops a hood movie these days: via the YouTube. Well, now you can watch the film without having to cop a copy of the EP on iTunes. Catch it while you can!

Nice movie, damn, what y’all expect it to be an Oscar award winning film, homie wrote this on his downtime..good shit

This would of been a poor effort even if it was free. I mean, the scenes consisted of 2 drive-by shootings, a robbery/police chase, buying a 40z from the shop and fucking the local hood bitch. Twice it was like the homies in the car were gonna fight each other. It’s nostalgic because we’ve seen it before but a lot better. Something tells me this was just the play it safe, predictable, paint by numbers – compton flick and not as close as it could of been to YGs own experience.

I think he was trying to show the reality of: everyone’s actually in it for themselves, mindless angry dialogue and lots of undirected violence towards absolutely everyone. Notice how there wasn’t an antagonist, but instead, everyone YG encountered was at his expense. Overall I thought the film was lacking direction and pretty awful. But, that’s just my opinion.

This here could be an HBO series

    • Matteo Ferrazzi

with better writing. but the premise would make it a huge hit regardless

Don’t get caught up in all the hype! This short was a solid 1.5 out of 5. Over all the short was shot well but the dialogue seemed fake/unreal and forced. The acting bad/mediocre at best and the dynamic of the characters seemed cliche and over the top. This goes to show just because you rap doesn’t mean you can tell a successful visual story. I applaud his attempt in tying to write a script but YG needs to stick to writing rhymes and leave the story telling to real film makers. This was an ok attempt but sorry it fell way short of anything worth watching twice.
