Mayweather & Pacquiao To Fight May 2nd

blame it on Shake February 20, 2015

It’s official, Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will finally square off at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 2nd.

“I am glad my decision to meet with Manny and discuss making this fight happen helped get the deal done,” Mayweather said, referring to a chance Jan. 27 meeting with Pacquiao at a Miami Heat game followed by a private meeting after the game. “Giving the fans what they want to see is always my main focus. This will be the biggest event in the history of the sport. Boxing fans and sports fans around the world will witness greatness on May 2. I am the best ever, TBE, and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win. Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do, but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48.”

“I am very happy that Floyd Mayweather and I can give the fans the fight they have wanted for so many years,” Pacquiao said. “They have waited long enough and they deserve it. It is an honor to be part of this historic event. I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world.”
Now the question is…. who do y’all got!?

10 years too fuckin late. I want Pac man but you know Mayweather is gonna lay back and come with one or two for the business. I’m more salty than excited, but you know the party goin down that night

    • Mac Dre

This fight has only been a possibility for 5 years, but point taken.

    • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

It took Mayweather 10 years to learn how to read the contract…

      • disqus_xpmwx1oUV3

Also going to see Pac get love TKO’d again LOL!!

        • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

That nigga Mayweather gonna run around the ring for 12 rounds… LOL

          • disqus_xpmwx1oUV3

He is going to defend, block, and actually hit something. Pac-man should have thought of doing this in his fights, Instead of throwing punches like a mindless groot LMAO!! Pac is an ol I am groot ass nigga.

          • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

They’re both out of their prime… But Pac hasn’t been showing no slowing down.

          • biff tannen

Shits like 8 years too late. Both of em are no longer in their prime. Still it is the biggest fight in the sport so Imma be watching.

Mayweather is gonna take Manny to school. His reach, speed, smarts and footwork will all be too much for manny. Manny will start off strong but he’ll get frustrated and floyd will go to work with that straight right. He’ll time manny just like marquez did and hurt him. Don’t think he’ll KO manny tho. His hands are weak and always get hurt.

    Floyd by UD

    • Mac Dre

This fight has only been a possibility for 5 years, so AT MOST, it’s only five years late. Idk if it’s “too late” though. They aren’t at their primes but they sure as hell are better than everyone else.

      • biff tannen

How has it only been possible for 5 years?

No they aren’t. Floyd maybe but pacquiao isnt.

        • Mac Dre

It’s only five years after it was first a big deal because Floyd took 2008 and most of 2009 off. During that time, Manny was still a junior lightweight (a huge one barely making weight though). In 2008, he moved up to lightweight then welterweight to fight Oscar De La Hoya, where Manny pummeled him. Manny then KO’d Ricky Hatton in the spring of 2009, making people start to WONDER about how he’d do against Floyd. In the fall of 2009, Floyd came back and dominated MANNY’S rival Juan Manuel Marquez. That’s when people started to want to see them fight. However, Manny already had a fight scheduled for later in fall 2009 against Miguel Cotto. When Manny stopped Cotto in late ’09, thats when the anticipation got ramped up for this fight to become a must-see event. The earliest they could make it was in the spring of 2010 (five years ago!) and they agreed to everything except drug testing, and it fell apart. Hence, this fight has only been in demand for five years and is only five years late AT MOST.

Also, go back and watch MANNY’S three fights since the KO loss. He’s not as violent as he used to be, but he’s just as dominant. This fight still matters. Hell, he was about to take out Marquez in the 2012 KO loss before he got clipped.

          • biff tannen

You may have a point with the 5 years thing.

But ur wrong about manny being dominant.
I don’t think he was on his way to ending marquez. I think marquez was a lot more available to be hit because he was setting him up for that KO. He needed manny to be aggressive so that he could time him and counter him. In their previous fight marquez was more defensive and it cost him a decision which I honestly think he deserved.

And out of the three fights he’s had since he got KOd only one opponent was a top tier opponent (Bradley) and he beat him convincingly but not dominantly. Rios and Algerie are B maybe even C level fighters which the old Manny would’ve KOd but he never really hurt Rios and he failed to finish Algerie.

Pac is not the same at all but of course the fight matters. They are the two most important fighters of this era.

          • Mac Dre

Those criticisms of the opponents is fair, but Rios and Algieri were both legit junior welterweight contenders with very different styles, which Manny handled easily. You may also be right about Marquez maybe setting up the KO, but he took a lot of punishment doing it. I don’t think Floyd is willing to take that punishment to look for openings and “punch with” Manny. I think Floyd won’t get beat up in this fight, but he will lose because Manny is more active, whether or not he’s landing cleanly.

          • biff tannen

Exactly, they were Junior welterweights. Which means they had to go up in weight to fight manny at a weight he was already comfortable in and they werent. As for the different styles, the only thing I saw him do well is cut the ring off on Algerie but Algerie had no power whatsoever so manny had nothing to worry about when he threw his combinations. Rios is just a stagnent, slow, punching bag. Pac’s speed was enough to neutralize any kind of offense he mightve had. Plus Rios had just been in two wars with Alvarado.

Floyd won’t need to punch or trade with many because his jab and straight right are fast enough to catch manny coming in and his reflexes and feet are fast enough to get out of the way before manny can respond. The reason marquez had to take all that punishment is because he’s slow. Floyd isnt. Pac will be active but floyds defense is ridiculous. He picks a lot of shots off and with his Philly shell stance he doesn’t give u a big target to hit and that’s not even counting his foot work which he uses to control distance and tire out his opponents.

Manny finishes combinations awkwardly and is often off balance. One hard straight right hand from floyd and he’ll be on his ass. Maybe not hurt but it’s a 10-8 rd for floyd if it happens. This fight will come down to who can control distance and timing.

As a boxing fan I really don’t see manny pulling off the W. Floyd is just too skilled and smart. Manny has a lot of flaws that a technical boxer can exploit(as demonstrated by marquez).

But there’s always the punchers chance.

hell naw. Manny finna K.O. that nigga.

      • biff tannen

Nah bruh. Manny hasn’t KOd anyone since 09. Plus if floyd can take a punch from canelo alvarez(who is a much bigger guy and a guy with KO power), he can definitely take a punch from Pac.

Pac is gonna get embarrassed. Floyd is gonna make him look bad

    • The Truth✓ᵛᵉʳᶦᶠᶦᵉᵈ

Nigga said “smarts”… Mayweather can’t read LOL

that nigga money may waited til’ paqman was way past his prime.

I would love to see Mayweather get beat finally!! Don’t like the dude as a person he seems like a genuine dickhead…but he’s a damn good boxer and the man will probably bring it.

  • Pac man all the way but won’t be an easy win by any means. Should be interesting. Either way they both caking and retiring after this.

  • B.DEE

    Better late than never??

  • jordan

pacquiao should bring out 50 and 50 should bring cat in the hat book

  • disqus_xpmwx1oUV3

Nah Pac would get his ass whooped, then all his fans would further make excuse after excuse. Why he keeps getting KO’d, his boxing iq is meh, his hands are weak when compared to the top competitors. Floyd is going to bruise him further and this overrated nigga will go back to the shadows.

    • illsupra

Nah cuhz!! Mayweather not going out like that.
U have a better chance of losing to that buster providence. lol >> Not going to happen

  • RDA96

5 years ago, when this fight should have happened, Pac probably would have won but now I don’t think he stands a chance. Pac isn’t as quick as he was and he doesn’t punch as hard as he used to while Mayweathers defense is just as good as ever. Pac probably won’t land a punch until the 5th round.

  • illsupra

    If Manny don’t KO Floyd, he’s fucked…

No way he gets a decision…

  • Adp

Mayweather 8th round ko this nigga pac has no time to train.

  • verywell

manny should play defensive like floyd usually does. make floyd come out on offense then manny can catch him off guard
