With To Pimp A Butterfly still buzzing, Kendrick Lamar continues his promo campaign with a sitdown with MTV’s Rob Markman. In part one of their discussion, K. Dot reveals the original title of the album: Tu Pimp A Caterpillar, speaks on the TUPAC connection, breaks down select songs and explains the idea behind the LP.

“That was the original name and they caught it because the abbreviation was Tupac, Tu-P-A-C,” Lamar told MTV. “Me changing it to Butterfly, I just really wanted to show the brightness of life and the word pimp has so much aggression and that represents several things. For me, it represents using my celebrity for good. Another reason is, not being pimped by the industry through my celebrity.”

Kendrick Lamar – who will be headlining Summer Jam 2015 – also sat down with Hot97 to discuss his album with J. Cole, almost scoring a Prince feature, and more.
