Who knew that, after his breakout single “Trap Queen” hit the e-waves, that a New Jersey-reared rapper with melodic sensibilities would cross-over in such a manner that he’d be performing alongside both Kanye West and Fall Out Boy?
That’s exactly what happened to Fetty Wap in the last several months, following his at-the-time innocuous upload of a rough draft of “Trap Queen” last March to his SoundCloud account. Shortly after “Trap Queen” began to buzz, however, his 1738/Remy Boyz counterpart Monty posted the song “My Way,” and although I stumbled upon it merely a few weeks ago it’s been in constant rotation in my iPod. Yes, I know it’s in the same vein as “Trap Queen,” but that doesn’t stop me from singing the hook off-key at ignorant levels.
