This Is Real: Eddie Murphy Releases New Reggae Single, “Oh Jah Jah”

Being that I live on an island (Hawaii for those wondering), I follow the reggae scene I’d say just as closely as the Hip-Hop scene. Believe it or not, Hawaii is a huge consumer market for reggae music, and we even have our own sub-genre called “Jawaiian” (which I personally think is basura).

So for the past couple of months, I’ve been hearing rumors here and there that Eddie Murphy was recording some new music, in particular, roots reggae music. I mean, most of us know he’s recorded music in the past. And the majority of it was super wack, yet entertaining. “Party All The Time,” anyone?

In a move which seems to follow “I Was A King” featuring Shabba Ranks (circa 1993), Eddie drops off a visual for “Oh Jah Jah.” The difference, this new single is light years better than his past discography.

Some heads may not take him seriously, as with Snoop Lion, but trust me, this is pretty rootsy. If you dig it, cop it on iTunes. And later this year, expect a new single featuring Beenie Man.
