Legendary Chill Rob G Taps R.A. The Rugged Man For “Tell Em” Visual

blame it on JES7 July 4, 2015

During the mid-to-late 80s, the Flavor Unit crew was really running thangs throughout the Tri-State. The conglomerate, almost akin to the Native Tongues, included icons like The 45 King, Queen Latifah, Lakim Shabazz, Freddie Foxxx, Black Sheep and Chill Rob G.

The latter, much like Brother Lakim Shabazz, was a slept-on yet legendary emcee’s MC. Although it was years following the release, I ended up buying Chill Rob G’s Ride the Rhythm LP (released in 1989). The album, although a bit mediocre, did feature gems like “Court Is Now In Session” and “Ride The Rhythm” (sampling Baby Huey’s notorious “Hard Times).

Fast forward to 2015, the New Jersey reached out to R.A. The Rugged Man. The rest is history.

“So when Rob G asked me to do something with him, I was like, ‘Of course, let’s make something special’,” says R.A. The result is “Tell Em,” a song and video taken from Rob’s new EP Chilled Not Frozen.

Shout out to and R.I.P. to Keith Haring!
