Last week, the world was introduced to the duo of Jamall Bufford, an emcee from Detroit and part of The Black Opera, and Kensaye, a Fench producer living in England, through a mini-documentary. The two linked over the power of the Internet and created an album called Freedom Is, which dropped Tuesday.

In proper music industry form, the duo released a single to help individually promote the album, and after one quick play through, it’s one of the more aggressive and ethereal tracks on the project. “Today” featuring Magestik Legend has the two emcees examining present-day lifestyles for black in America. Bufford points out that if they have more money, they have more problems, but if they have no money, the problems are still there. Bufford’s end goal is to stop the cycle of a struggling lifestyle and make a change.

Listen to “Today” below, and make sure to head to Bandcamp to download Freedom Is at the name-your-price option.
