Sunday, Pharrell appeared on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Radio with radio show OTHERtone, and on it, he played an unreleased track from N.E.R.D., his band with Chad Hugo and Shae Haley, called “Locked Away.”
Led by a funky bass line and upbeat guitar, “Locked Away” sounds like it’s the soundtrack for following the footsteps of a spy while Pharrell scours the night for a way to get his girl to acknowledge him. Pharrell said on the show that the song was recorded around the days of In Search Of…, and man, it’s melodic as hell. Chad and Pharrell make such great chord progressions together, and their tunes find a way to stick in your brain forever. “Locked Away,” as simple as it seems on its surface, is no different.
