One of Roc Nation’s hidden stars, Mayaeni, dropped a cover of A$AP Rocky’s “L$D,” putting her own heavier rock influence throughout the trippy, soothing track.
Similar to the way Lissie flipped Kid Cudi’s “Pursuit of Happiness” in to a head-trashing, infectious tune, Mayaeni’s cover kicks into gear once the chorus rolls in. The tone and tempo follow the original’s suit, but Mayaeni’s has a strong feel of an acid trip straight out of the crowd of Woodstock ’69. Her powerful voice combined with her reverbed guitars has a much more natural, raw feel than the original, which is one of my favorite tunes of the year.
