Rick Ross – “Work” (prod. Jahlil Beats)

Blame his recent struggles, whether his ward’s lyrical ones or his own legal problems, but Black Dollar from Rick Ross was a decent project compared to its two predecessors Mastermind and Hood Billionaire. If anything, it was because he dropped a song full of samples that probably would not have been cleared, hence why his albums are more “Elvis Presley Blvd.” than “Sanctified.”

Hence where this new single, producer by beatmaker-of-the-moment Jahlil Beats, comes in. A sonic cousin of Meek Mill’s “Monster,” the song is a regression of sorts, retreading the same familiar territory Rick Ross always crosses: making more money, taking your women, selling you his drugs, and some weird vow to take his shirt off and “show (his) abs like 2Pac.” That bass knocks, however.
