In some of our 2DBZ group chats, the topic of Pharrell/N.E.R.D. comes up relatively often, and it always revolves around how much better Pharrell’s music sounds when Chad Hugo is alongside him. His production discography with The Neptunes and N.E.R.D. surpasses his solo work, so it’s nice to hear now that we’ll be getting another N.E.R.D. album.

During a Twitter chat while controlling the iHeartRadio account, a fan asked Pharrell if N.E.R.D. would drop another album, seeing as the trio’s last work, Nothing, came out over five years ago. His response? “OF COURSE!”

I know that’s a very loose response with no timetable, but hey, it’s something to look forward to. It’s better than something ambiguous!

With Pharrell’s mainstream hype at an all-time high because of “Happy,” it would’ve been difficult for him to “explore” his former artistic endeavors (a.k.a. the endeavors that got him famous). But in due time as his mainstream, pop-radio hype dies down, we’ll get the old Pharrell back, and with that comes a new N.E.R.D. album, and who knows, more production from The Neptunes.

Listen to a recently released N.E.R.D. cut from Pharrell’s OTHERtone radio show on Beats 1, “Locked Away.”
