In my advancing age and dwindling sanity, I’ve found myself listening to more alternative sounds lately. Discovering these new talents is one of the best parts of finding new music, and nothing was more exciting than coming across Louisville, Kentucky talent Bryson Tiller.

Albeit late to the proverbial party, his breakout single “Don’t” became one of my favorite songs of 2015 and still gets an unimaginable amount of burn throughout my speakers. That heat was only matched by nearly all of his subsequent follow-ups “Been That Way,” “Just Another Interlude” and “Exchange.” Each track has only raised my anticipation for his debut album T R A P S O U L, and he surprised fans – and myself by doing what’s virtually the unthinkable in music these days: releasing the album a week earlier than its planned due date.

At a slim 45 minutes, the 14-track project is Pen Griffey Jr’s crown jewel and one of the more understated projects of 2015. Meshing smooth R&B with backdrops usually meant for rappers, T R A P S O U L is easily one of my favorite spins of this year and it could yours once you listen to it as well.
