Early Wednesday morning, The Weeknd joined BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, like Disclosure and Sam Smith did in the a couple weeks ago to cover “Hotline Bling,” to perform “Can’t Feel My Face” and stripped-down version of “The Hills.”
The Canadian crooner played the first song in its typical form before singing “The Hills” over a clean guitar, making it sound far more emotional than the original. The latter has become my favorite song off Beauty Behind the Madness, and this version almost tops it after one listen. With all the emotion in the original, The Weeknd makes “when I’m fucked up, that’s the real me” sound far more painful here.
Listen to the performance below.
