It’s pretty difficult to escape your older sibling’s shadow, especially when that shadow is cast by one of the most influential musicians of all time. For Illa J, following in the footsteps of J Dilla has been no easy task, but he has carved a rather sizable lane for himself as a member of the Yancey Boys and – as an homage to his brother – Slum Village. Hoping to expand upon his sound Illa recently relocated to Montréal, and the new environment is reflected in his very first solo album.

Primarily produced by Canadian duo Potatohead People (with some help from Kaytranada also) , the eleven-track self-titled album still maintains that Detroit sound. With Moka Only providing considerable assistance, fans can listen to the album in its entirety below.
