CHCKLK, an alternative R ‘n’ B singer from New York, has dropped his new airy, spacious “Young Boy,” where he tells the story of his wavering childhood.

He began shy but later developed into a singer with grand goals and little help. He believes that, as long as he can stay away from trappin’, he’ll be able to make it in the music industry. He “never chose to conform,” and his odd mix of sounds, which remind me part of Spooky Black and part of the ominous side of The Weeknd, enhance that belief. “Young Boy” didn’t blow me away, but the mood was nice enough to keep my ears open for what else CHCKLK has to say.

Listen to “Young Boy” below.

Watch the trailer for the upcoming music video, too.
