Leave it to a person like Spike Lee to reimagine the turbulent area of Chicago’s South Side as a film inspired by a Greek comedy with the likes of Dave Chappelle, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, and a host of others starring throughout.

Originally rumored to star both Kanye West and Common, Chi-Raq is based on the play Lysistrata, where in an attempt to end a war women went on a sex strike and ended up kick-starting a battle of the sexes showdown. Chi-Raq follows in the same vein, where the women in the city of Englewood withhold sex from their men in order to curb gun violence. The film has everybody from Jennifer Hudson to Angela Bassett throughout, and it will hit theaters on December 4th (with a subsequent release on Amazon Instant Video to follow after).

Yes, that’s Nick Cannon portraying the hardest rapper ever, so you know that this is a fictional film.
