Joey Purp – “Run It Up”

Joey Purp still has one of my favorite verses of the year from when he dropped in on Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment’s “Go!” While he’s mostly appeared on other people’s songs, from Two-Fresh to Vic Mensa, over the last couple years, his talent hasn’t gone undiscovered. The man from the land of a thousand talented emcees, Chicago, has built a growing buzz and continues the electricity with his new single, “Run It Up.”

The sound a flow kind of mirrors something that his friend, Vic Mensa, would come with during his ridiculous freestyle stretch earlier this year. (The flow, at times, sounds a bit like Drake on “Back 2 Back,” too.) Purp says that every label is trying to sign him for an arm and a leg, but “they could take his whole body” and he’d still be eons ahead of other rappers in terms of skill. There’s no shortage of conifidence in Purp’s voice.
