A-F-R-O is new to my ears, but man, this kid is not new to spitting bars whatsoever.

At only 18 years old, the California native seems to have made a name for himself via R.A. the Rugged Man’s “Definition Of A Rap Flow” contest in 2014 and has since skyrocketed onto the Internet spitting rhymes over MF DOOM and J Dilla production. Since, he’s been signed to R.A. the Rugged Man’s overseeing and made his way into the ears of (this will make hip-hop heads happy) Queen Latifah and DJ Premier.

Last week, A-F-R-O released a new mixtape, Tales From The Basement, where he continues to rap over beats from legends like DOOM, Havoc, RZA and more. The man’s got an old-school flow with a vicious knack for rhyming 800 syllable in a sentence. A-F-R-O is going to get plenty of comparisons to MF DOOM because of his cadence, but his knowledge and all his flows reach far beyond just him.
