What a pleasant surprise.

Despite having a rather low-key 2015 The-Dream managed to make some noise contributing to both Rick Ross’ Black Market (“Money Dance“) and Pusha T’s Darkest Before Dawn: The Prelude (“M.F.T.R.“) albums, as well as releasing his Crown EP. Now, out of the blue, Terius has released a tribute album of Sam Cooke covers, IAMSAM.

The eight-track EP features The-Dream at some of his best, providing faithful renditions of some of the King of Soul’s most popular songs, including “Cupid,” “A Change Is Gonna Come” and “Chain Gang.” IAMSAM actually has an interesting backstory: recorded during the sessions that would ultimately be Beyoncé’s 2010 album 4, the songs are a tribute to The-Dream’s late mother who passed on December 23rd, 1992. Undoubtedly, his mother would be proud of these covers.
