Every once in a while, Top Dawg Entertainment’s president, Punch, steps in front of the microphone. He’s been doing this since the days of The Kendrick Lamar EP, though we’ve never gotten a full project from the business-man-turned-emcee.

Over this calendar year, we’ve only gotten two songs, “Fear” and “Unispired,” from Punch before today. After helping put together the TDE Holiday concert, which took place yesterday, the president delivers a new offering, “Kings,” which he describes as “a quick story based on the years from 1986 through 1998ish.” Essentially, Punch is telling the story of growing up and trying to make a dollar from adolescence to his young adult years. Check out what mattered to him: the way his hat tilted and the lean he had when he walked. It’s the type of innocent fashion acumen that, no matter how hard you’re hustling or how much money you have, matters.
