There was a very brief time during the mid 90s to early 2000s where R&B started to rule over my life. Of course, these were times when R&B was entirely organic, with heavy Hip-Hop influences. We can give thanks and praises to idols like Mariah Carey and Mary J Blige who started the trend.

Awful Records’ capo Father‘s first R&B love was apparently the ever beautiful Mýa, and her Jadakiss-assisted smash single “Best of Me” from her 2000 sophomore LP Fear of Flying. And let’s keep it real, Kiss’ version was – at least in my opinion – way better than Jay-Z’s remix/part 2.

To pay homage to his “first R&B love, Mya,” Father decided to cover the song, albeit with a 2016, “trap soul” twist to it. Listen below.
