Although he will release his first solo project since 2014’s The Soul Provider on January 11th, Los Angeles producer/majority Willie Esco owner Jansport J has kept busy with his works with other artists (Mélat, El Prez). But as great as those collaborative efforts were sonically, it appears that Jansport is saving the best product for his own project blackwhitegoldville.
Although a largely instrumental release, J will incorporate guest vocals throughout the LP. Following his connection with Mélat on”expand+exist,” he teams with Bee Honey for the project’s second single “[sub]concious.” With a drum pattern that may evoke memories of Erykah Badu and J Dilla’s “Soldier,” the bassline is paired with sock hop-style “doo wops” which flutter in between various samples and ethereal vocals.
