I first learned about theMIND via Mick Jenkins debut LP, The Water[s]. He sang on a good chunk of the project, adding nice ambient vocals to the water-drapped LP. It seems the Chicago native is gearing up to set sail on his own course with a new project, Summer Camp, and today, we get the project’s first single, “Mercury Rising.”
The song features production from THEMpeople, with additional work coming in from Donnie Trumpet and Sylvia Grace below theMIND’s lyrics of love, loneliness and exploration. His vocals come in slightly altered at times, but they don’t affect how soothing the experience winds up. theMIND seems to have a good group of people around him creating a full sound, so I’ll be looking forward to future solo releases.
