Kevin Gates is no stranger to the hip-hop world. At 29, the Louisiana native has more than 10 projects under his belt—including Stranger Than Fiction (his first release after signing to Atlantic Records) and Luca Brasi 2.
Throughout a rocky 2015, which had Gates handling battery charges after kicking a woman in Lakeland, Fla., Gates dropped “2 Phones,” “Really Really,” La Familia,” “The Truth” (a response to the battery charges) and “Kno One,” all which would eventually land on his debut LP, Islah.
Unusual for a debut album in connection with a major label, Luca Brasi’s new project has no features. Outside of “Jam,” a bonus cut featuring Ty Dolla $ign, Trey Songz and Jamie Foxx, Gates is relying on himself and the help of his producers (Metro Boomin, Nic Nac, The MeKanics, etc) to carry the album’s 15 tracks.
