What an afternoon/evening.

After The Life of Pablo (with a side of new Young Thug and Vic Mensa), James Blake debuted a new song on his BBC Radio 1 residency Thursday night. The British producer has popped up over the last couple years occasionally following his Overgrown LP in 2013 with Chance the Rapper (“Life Round Here”) and on his DJ residency (covering “Sound Of Silence“), but this new content is well overdue and more than welcome.

Driven by his soothing piano melodies and booming bass, Blake delivers one of the best and brightest vocal performances I’ve heard from him. It sounds, as he says, like “Modern Soul.”
