This is a rather remarkable feat.
Throughout the month of February, both Drake and Kendrick Lamar were honored with the keys to their respective cities of Toronto and Compton. However, it turns out that another rapper was also bestowed with that distinction as well.
On February 29th, 2016, Foxy Brown was gifted with the key to her hometown of Brooklyn, NY. While the ceremony wasn’t a grandiose affair in comparison to her male counterparts (which took place during the NBA All-Star weekend and GRAMMY Weekend), Foxy — née Inga Marchand — shared the joyous occasion via her Instagram page.
Both Wyclef Jean and Ilyasah Shabazz, the third daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, congratulated Foxy as well.
Foxy now joins a growing collection of rappers who were given the keys to their respective cities, which thus far includes Fetty Wap, T.I, Big Sean, Queen Latifah, J. Cole and Puff Daddy (who was actually given keys to the city of Chicago, Las Vegas and Miami Beach as well as New York) among many others. Congrats, Foxy!
