Last summer, Ryan Leslie announced he would be releasing his sixth studio album, MZRT (The Magnificently Zealous Renegade Takeover), on July 4th, 2015. The date arrived, the album dropped, but that was far from the end…
Taking the release a step further, the multi-talented musician unveiled his plans to beat Kanye to the punch make MZRT a “lifetime concept” album—where he will continue to extend the original 12-song tracklist with a new song each and every month until he calls it quits.
“As of July 4, 2015, I will be creating and releasing a new song every month until the day I retire from the game. I will do this with a very limited group of 1000 friends and supporters. Higher support levels come with greater access to my world and my creative process. I will only accept support during months where a song is released. You may cancel at any time. Welcome to the future!”
This week, R-Les visits paradise with a new video for “The Wonderful Ones.”
“The song celebrates the lifestyle and independence that being ‘SuperPhone-powered‘ has afforded me,” Leslie tells Billboard. “The lyric ‘So we reign in the sun and our good times are second to none’ echoes the sentiment that freedom—to travel, to create, to be expressive without compromise—yields priceless experiences and inspires romance.”
