One of these days I want to find out how many summer festivals there are exactly, because it seems that a new one — or ten — pops up every year, or at least a festival I’ve never heard of the year prior. It’s gotten to the point that long-standing spring and summer traditions, like Coachella and Hot 97’s SummerJam have evolved from singular one-offs to either multi-weekend extravaganzas and a preceding festival respectively.

Credit hip hop for this. Just a few short years ago it was rare to see any rapper who couldn’t be traced back, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”-style, to either Dr. Dre or Roc-A-Fella Records at some of these events, much less be a headliner. But it’s 2016 now: these are as commonplace as the water cooler in an office building. Which comes to my long-winded point: the Pemberton Music Festival. Taking place in British Columbia, Canada, the summer concert takes place July 14th-17th and features a medley of familiar faces. Alongside the aforementioned Snoop Dogg, J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, and Ice Cube, the likes of Tory Lanez, Anderson .Paak, Method Man and Redman, Rae Sremmurd, Joey Bada$$, Miguel, SZA, Mac Miller, FKA twigs, and Dizzy Wright, among several others.

Unlike other festivals, however, Pemberton will also have a comedy side-section. The music is good enough as is, but catching Cheech & Chong, Doug Benson and Craig Robinson crack jokes? Shut up and take my money already.
