Yesterday afternoon (April 5th) friends, family and fans alike took to Queens’ St. Alban’s Memorial Park to pay tribute to the life, times, and memory of Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor, who tragically passed away due to complications from diabetes on March 22nd. Afterward, the Apollo Theater hosted his memorial service where the likes of the surviving members of A Tribe Called Quest (Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed, Muhammed, and Jarobi), Busta Rhymes, Chuck D, Consequence, D’Angelo, and KRS-One were on hand to provide stories and remember their friend.

Two big surprises, however, came in the forms of André 3000 and Kanye West.

While ‘Ye would mention that ATCQ was one of the main reasons he got into hip hop and helped him establish his own self-identity and self-worth, 3 Stacks would actually reveal that he and Big Boi had briefly spoke to the group about the possibility of an A Tribe Called Quest x OutKast album (!). If only it could have happened…

Watch their brief speeches below.
