Much of what made Danny Matos’ The Hangar EP stand out (aside from the New Yorker’s brilliant, in-the-pocket rhymes) was the rich production value, provided by Surf School’s Rusty Mack and Red Walrus. This was especially apparent on Matos’ lead single, “New Genre.”

Now, the accomplished former poet-turned-emcee returns to the same essence that was responsible for creating the magnetic energy found on The Hangar, connecting with Rusty Mack once again. On the new loosie, Danny pens his inner-thoughts on the inability to “Cope” with certain hardships that life can suddenly throw at a person.

Personally, it’s a song that I can definitely relate to, as I’m tragically dealing with the loss of two friends in less than a 3 day span. It’s enough to make someone like me, who is usually numb to such emotional pain, flip into an absolute mad man.
