Tucked comfortably between the TDE and Strange Music camps — two of rap’s highly revered independent crews — and waiting patiently for his turn to blow up is Oxnard, CA emcee King Harris II.

Following his formal introduction to the DopeHouse last month with the premiere of “Nightmare on Wolff St. (Intro),” Harris, the cousin of Jay Rock, continues rolling out promo for his upcoming album, Nightmare On Wolff Street. While the trend these days seems to be setting up mixtapes, EPs or albums with weekly drops, King Harris II has decided to go with a much safer approach, releasing new music and giving it time to breathe. A smart tactic that goes against the grain, if you ask me.

After rolling with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock — plus sharing the stage with Krizz Kaliko and Kutt Calhoun — Harris is ready go for delf, officially rolling out his new album on May 13th. And if you weren’t already impressed with the man’s vision, and bars, the following quote will paint a complete picture of exactly what type of artist he is:

Jay Rock and Punch are family and believe in me, but they always tell me it’s about quality, not cosigns.”

Listen to Harris get busy on his latest banger, the Joey Castellani-produced “Birds of a Feather” below. Pre-order Nightmare on Wolff Street, featuring Oh No, The Game, The Mekaniks and more on iTunes now.
