Open Mike Eagle & Paul White – “Admitting The Endorphin Addiction” (Video)

Revisiting their Hella Personal Film Festival LP, Open Mike Eagle and Paul White share the video for the album’s opening number, “Admitting the Endorphin Addiction.”

As I wrote when the song came out, “Admitting The Endorphin Addiction” pairs bright, upbeat, guitar-sampling production that sounds straight out of an 80s coming-of-age film as a backdrop to Mike’s honest accounts of trying to escape addiction, whether it be to a drug or a device. So the video heads to the most sun-kissed place of them all, Venice Beach, to paint the themes of the tune.

The video has Mike encountering — and eventually following — a cheery dancer (Isis Avalos), who, in a loose case, represents the figure trying to lead him in the clean direction. Uneasy at first, Mike begins chasing the light at the end of the tunnel, because “today is ground zero.”
