Fresh off an appearance on The Tonight Show alongside Chance the Rapper, Jamila Woods is back with a new song.

Looking to capture the hearts of new listeners and continue to satisfy current fans, the Chicago songstress plucks an instrumental from The Roots’ Dilla Joints project for her latest offering, “Heavn.”

“I was thinking about all the barriers set up against love,” Woods explained to The FADER. “I thought about stories of black love in slavery times, how my ancestors had the audacity to love in spite of trauma and violence waged against them. The song became an ode to that history and a call to choose love in spite of the storms we weather.”

Press play and soar above the clouds.

Also, for those that missed Dilla Joints when it first dropped in 2010, I re-upped my copy for your listening pleasure.
